Mensch is just more US cultural Imperialism stolen from Israel.

How about Clarry is a good bloke. Or a bonza fellah.

Nein, mein herr, mensch as a Yiddish term has been around long before the Balfour Declaration. And, just for the record, nobody hates US so-called 'Cultural Imperialism' and everything it stands for more than me.

    don't you mean a Scheißkerl?  😎

Ya, however, on the other hand, as the dialogue goes, when three Jewish people get together, and you get four opinions - it's one of the things I love about - it's not all about the Sch part of Scheißkerl. There are also, shall we call them the fallow periods, or when one wishes to recite the Lord's Prayer - a great example of Tautology, mind you - 'Give us this day our daily that word beginning with sch' When it happens, finally, after 4 or 5 days, is when I have the Damascus Moments, a la Saul of Tarsus, and I believe in de Lord!

First and foremost: Happy birthday Monbon! Hope you had a wonderful day. 💕

I fully agree with what you and others have said about Clarrie showing fantastic sportsmanship yesterday. But I’m wondering if people feel the same way about Clarrie letting Cripps know he had visible blood on his face, thereby prompting Cripps to wipe it away lest he be sent off on the blood rule. It happened towards the end of a match last year and I distinctly remember folks sticking the boots in saying it was dumb of Clarrie to do so because it would’ve been to our advantage had Cripps been sent off (in a tight match).

FWIW, I don’t think Clarrie ought to have been bagged for this. Helping others is obviously an innate quality of his. Why would anyone want him to change? And good luck trying to get him to change.

Thank you for your birthday wishes. I agree with you 150% about the Cripps incident.

I'll bet my bottom dollar that Clarrie had a difficult time growing up, that he was picked on. I recall an ex North player whose Beechworth winery I represented, telling me that Clarrie was 'Trouble' when Melbourne recruited him.

Now, let's just say, because of where I came from in July 1956 when we landed at Port Melbourne on the good ship Fairsea, I got picked on. These incidents beyond one's control stay with you for the rest of your life. At the time it's happening, you are forced to 'deal with the real' and make the best of it. I'm not relating this as a sob story, I am trying to make a point that as survivors of those 'facts of life', people like Clarrie choose to behave with true compassion for the rest of their lives, something I recognize, because I chose to take this option as well. In other words, it taught me about the true meaning of, I am you and you are me.

  4. Since I can't bear to watch any live Melbourne Games - for example, I gave up before 10 minutes of the Grand Final they won after Bulldoggers kicked a goal - I'm watching the replay. It's Quarter Time. Every kick to Petty bar one has been either a grubber of a kick to his opponent. UM, if I was a forward with delivery like that, I'd prefer to play golf - which I'm hopeless at. Then again, my dad told me once, Don't worry about hitting the ball into the scrub - you find a lot of golf balls there.

  5. I noted with usual dismay Corney Man telling his audience that Butters had no case to answer. Sure...he just incidentally knocked a player's head. I bet if the Buttman was playing in a Demon jumper, the Corney man's  perspective might waver not in the Buttman's favor.

This is where I'm at with this bump, when I first saw it I thought, "it's a week". Nothing changes every time I see it, he gets him high and he doesn't need to. I'm totally happy with the club challenging it because in the past we have rolled over when I thought we should make a stand, this at least is telling the competition that we are backing ourselves to do what we need to do to win.

I go on the AFL Reddit page and there were some really vitriolic statements from people and the general consensus is that he's a thug and a sniper. I like our players playing hard but I don't like our guys being seen as thugs and dirty players. I really do hope the club is able to curtail Kozzie's attitude on this.

The other funny part of that page though were Carlton fans criticising the club for challenging. Like seriously, they are going to criticised a club for trying to use the rules to get their player off a charge? Some club supporters really have zero self reflection on them, you can guarantee is Cripps does the same thing they'll be whining that the other player ran into him and to challenge it at the Supreme Court.

Who the hell cares what other 'fans' think of our players? They all have their own agendas and blind spots.

Not such a good morning, weather wise. As I arrived, it starting raining, settled into watching some Victory players have a kick around.

The MFC squad come out as the rain abated, they had wide smiles as the walked down the roped corridor. Plenty of joy from the supporters towards them, kids everywhere, maybe about 500 to a 1000 of us.

Rehab/light duties, Hunter, BBB, TMac, McAdam, Bowey, Chandler, Melky, Sestan, AMW, Spargo, Turner.

Chandler was doing enough running to suggest he will be right.

I expected Hunter to be in the main group, must have had a setback.

Looks like they are working on the fitness of Sestan.

BBB and TMac are managed, no obvious hindrances, and the easy recovery run is usual for them.

A surprise with AMW, just as we were suggesting he is nearly ready, he goes into rehab. I couldn't tell what the problem was.

    No Hore.

They split into three stations, short kicking, a kind of soccer competition of kicking the ball down the field with finesse from outside the line, and a structured handball game.

Down came the rain again for 5 minutes and then cleared.

They did some structured sims. Coaches would move the ball from the forward line and set a high mark for a backman who would slingshot it off via spread and/or corridor it with links, to either a marking forward or to a forward that brings the ball front and centre. may was moving well.

They had a couple of meetings in the middle.

Finally, they head to the boundary for extensive signings.

    Great atmosphere.

    Please, who is AMW??

For what it's worth Kane Cornes today while commenting on the football said he would be surprised if Petty stayed at Melbourne.

How often has Cornes been wrong recently? He is just very fond of making things up as he goes along.

It's part of the narrative of middle-aged ex footballers chest beating about the 70s, 80s and 90s glory days by nit picking current players

Especially the ones who don't commit common assault on the football field.

The guy is way past his use by date.

I always hated him: he should have served jail time for common assault many times: ditto Don Scott, Dipper, Matthews etc

Can’t believe what I just heard Dermie say on crunch time (well l can actually) he basically said that Oliver took short steps with Darcy Forgerty on the lead Thursday night.

Just a bit more fuel on the fire to stick it up these outdated media [censored]

How much more credibility can this dinosaur lose.

To suggest that Clarries effort was soft especially with all the concussion concerns now & one of his best mates forced into retirement is embarrassingly pathetic

You would see a harder ball player than Clarry
Oh yeah and then Tom Morris said that Kozzies action was similar to Maynard’s against Gus!!

There's also the -what is for me - the main element. Which, as one commentator pointed out, had Oliver stood his ground, he would have hit Fogarty front on and been suspended.

You can't teach a South Australian about class.Or a Kiwi about Style.Or a Russian about humour.

The trouble with South Australians is the Sassenachs outnumber the Germans, hence the lack of class. And as far as humour goes, you obviously are not aware that a German joke is no laughing matter.

who is 'they', ah no, we kicked 18, straight kicking and we would have won by 10 goals, they kicked 15

    I hate ambiguous comments

I hate pedantic superciliousness. After Quarter time - who is 'we', white man, it's them, the Melbourne players, 'we' had nothing to do with it - they- The Melbourne Football Club, kicked 8goals and 18 behinds. The Crows kicked 6 goals 10 behinds. That is, the Crows, elles, essi, sie, were kept in the game by whatever you want to call the MFC's  missed goals.

    Keep pedanticising, Jontee.

It was a good win, but I don't know why, when we get 5 or 6 goals in front we play defensively and try to save the game  That was a great opportunity for a 10 goal win that we missed.

Be glad when Bowey comes back and can take Billings spot.

Remember they kicked 18 Behinds- straight kicking, game over...

  15. Adelaide actually played good footy in the first and last quarters - I've read so much criticism of them etc. They simply played a better organized team last night. Every Melbourne player put in last night - people have knocked Billings but he gave us some unnoticed crunch and bite, and had he kicked straight he would have been a hero. Petty is now starting to hum, Howes did his share, Windsor is a wonder, Sparrow, Neale-Bullen played their guts out and Van R held onto a few. It was an impressive win against a talented side which only a great defence like Melbouner has at the moment could have stopped.
