We are going to be outnumbered at least 60,000 to 30,000 only saved by the 15K of us in the MCC

Sadly, I believe you are most likely on the mark. (Can I hope that you are wrong?)

Unfortunately, I was travelling in 2018 when I believe that our crowd and noise was phenomenal in the finals. Wish I was there.

I was however lucky enough to see all our finals in 2021 (SA and WA). In WA the amount of support and NOISE was out of this world. Nothing quite like having 70% of the crowd with you (basically a combination of fanatical West Coast and Freo supporters). Mark my words, the crowd helped our team immensely. (The Geelong game in particular, was pure bliss. You just had to be there)

From a crowd atmosphere perspective the first game the following year back home in Vic (against the Doggies) was flat, almost disappointing. I get it, it wasn’t a final, but it was still flat.

This year it is quite evident that the coach and individual players have almost at times been begging for us to turn up. It makes a big difference. The 19th man syndrome is real.

So we have 70,000 members. Big deal. The sad reality is that we are not as passionate and rusted as we would like to think we are. Yes, as much as I love to hate the Collingwood and Carlton fans (and Essendon and Richmond), I truly am envious of their passion and energy. They have something that we don’t. Yes, I’m jealous.

I am already feeling for our players come this Friday. What they need from us they most likely won’t get.

The price you pay for barracking for Melbourne 😢

  2. I’m picking up on the vibe that we may get less supporters turning up this Friday than last week. I hope this is not the case. If this did happen, it would be shameful.

Pretty much all of us have waited a lifetime to see the Mighty Dees being up there as a seriously competitive team. For obvious reasons most of us did not get a chance to actually be in WA to see them win the premiership.

Then all the talk that followed was that the faithful wanted to experience seeing us get a flag at the G. Since then we have been a top four side. That in itself is a pretty good effort. Right now we are still a chance.  It’s going to be tough and the odds are against us. I get it.

If we get vastly outnumbered on Friday and the crowd get Carlton over the line, what then? How will we feel? We will certainly deserve the tag that we are soft fair weather supporters.  I seriously do not want to experience the shame, to face up to the truth of the perception that the rest of the football world has about our softness of our supporter base.

The reality is this. All the chatter on this forum (and elsewhere) about how good or bad we are, what we could / should do really is just that, chatter. Membership numbers are just numbers. It is bums on seats that count.

The only real way we can tangibly help our team is to turn up to the game and actually show our support. Everything else is just talk. We need to be loud and proud.

It will be interesting to see what happens this Friday.

Thanks Kev and all posters love the feedback, if the boys were a bit flat I think that would reflect the collective mindset of all Dee supporters today. I know that I am struggling to come to grips with Gus’s injury, the primeval magpie supporter base and the way that we threw away that crucial game.!!!

I want to see that collective flatness morph into a steely resolve over the next five days.

I want our supporters getting on board tomorrow and make it another sell out crowd. It would disgust me if the demon fan support dropped of from last Thursday.

  4. Can’t help but think that the timing of the 12 days protocol is very much influenced by the fact that most players get an opportunity to play footy after missing only one game.

Even more so when I hear more often than not from medical people not associated with the game that concussed players (no matter what game they play) should really not play for at least 3 to 4 weeks after incurring concussion.

My daughter fell of a pushbike, hit her head (had a helmet on that split at the temple region) was unconscious for only say 10 - 15 seconds and did not come good for at least a month.  In fact she endured quite a few migraines for the following 6 or more months.

I know there are varying levels of concussion out there. My guess is Gus’s was worse than average this time round.

Just guessing again here, in years to come as more evidence arises the 12 day protocol will be increased rather than stay the same. Certainly won’t be decreased

  5. Tackling is a football act. If you intentionally or unintentionally cause a player’s head to crash into the ground (concussion), no question, you do the time.

Attempting to smother a ball is a football act. If you intentionally or unintentionally smash into a player’s head and cause concussion, you should do the time.

For obvious reasons the rules of the game focus now is to protect the head. My guess a penalty will be applied, then appealed and he will get off. Hope I’m wrong.

Do we contest the JVR suspension? Try to argue a low impact grading?

In my opinion we haven’t got a hope in hell of getting him off. Ironically I reckon the ferals have a better chance with Maynard.

    Work that one out!

I don't think it can be one. It will be either 3+ or nothing.

It will be both. The process will more likely than not be the tribunal gives 3 weeks, there will be an appeal and he will get nothing.
Reading between the lines MRO is weak as urine (not making a call but instead hand balling to the tribunal), tribunal makes a call (that makes the AFL appear to be doing the right thing about concussion taking into current / future litigation cases) and when the legals appeal and win, the AFL can say they tried to do the right thing but their hands were tied (and the Ferals are happy and tv ratings go through the roof).

Everyone is happy, well almost everyone.

I think you'll find supporter morale at a post-flag year low. I'd be surprised to see dees fans turn out in much force unfortunately especially after putting up with Pies fans last week. A lot just won't want to go through that again.

I hear you but if that actually occurs (we don’t turn up) I will feel so much shame. I hope you are wrong.

As an aside I was really proud how our crowd supported and stuck up for our players and gave the Ferals heaps (booing Maynard and Cox - yep I was one of many booing. - plenty of pride and no shame whatsoever)

We'll be outnumbered again this time by the other feral fans

We got 70,000 members. Just need 50,000 to rock up (Yep I know there are AFL sections, corporates etc, but come on surely we have enough supporters that hate Carlton!!!). Turn up!

  10. If we as supporters want to help our players the plan is pretty simple. If you went to the G on Thursday you must turn up again. Better still buy a ticket for a mate. Doesn’t matter if they don’t barrack for the Dees, so long as they hate Carlton and are very loud.
