  1. Agree, it needs to be for a player that suits our needs not a draft pick (unless that opens a player trade with another club). Small forward ideal.
  2. I'm basing this idea on the belief that Viney has re-signed, I can see arguments both ways about that outcome ... I think my trade is like for like based on 2020 roles - Brayshaw wing-mid and Harmes half-back, although I acknowledge Harmes can be effective in the midfield. Oliver, Petracca, Viney, Merrett, Langdon. This means a couple of VDB, Melksham, ANB, Sparrow, Jordon and Baker (and Hannan?) have to play midfield in the 22 and I acknowledge depth does looks a bit thin. Using Tomlinson in the backline and adding Saad may free Salem or Rivers into the midfield. I believe that we can't trade our remaining 2020 picks because we traded already pre-traded our 1st this year - that's the rule on future picks and I'm not sure whether the restriction carries over into the next year. If that is the case then the only trade currency we've got is players or 2021 picks.
  3. I'd do Brayshaw + Harmes + 2021 1st for Merrett + Saad. Essendon might go for that win-win.
  4. Langdon has been a massive success on one wing but Tomlinson less so and maybe he's found his slot as 3rd tall back - anyway he provides decent multi-role flexibility on matchday. I'd like us to try Mitch Hannan for an extended period on the other wing in the pre-season and next year. He's a footballer, a nice left foot kick, has some speed, is a decent size at 189/87 and is quite strong overhead. Maybe his endurance and repeat sprints aren't up to it, but he's got a mature body and should be able to put in solid work over summer with Burgess to address this. We've got an oversupply of medium marking forwards and Hannan can go missing in this difficult role. I rate him and I think we can get more out of him.
  5. I think if he has signed then it's not surprising that they'd hold the news back so it gets clear air. We've just had the B&F and the AA announcements, they would want to keep this announcement clear of them. Let's see ...
  6. It depends where Bradtke is at and I don't think any of us know that. He'll be 21 at the start of next season so should be ready for some AFL ruck load if he's going to make it. If Max got a long term injury we would not want to ruck Jackson full time - at 19-20yo that could break his body and ruin his career. But if we believed that he could share the load with Bradtke if necessary then that would pave the way for Preuss trade. As someone else pointed out to me - if GWS are interested then a trade for Bobby Hill or Brent Daniels would work!
  7. Yes I confess I was wondering to myself why I give a [censored]. I think it must be the irony of poster with a nonsensical maths-flavoured palindrome username not being able to add up. You could try something truly Dadaesque like DogglenelggoD.
  8. You've tripled down on your error now. He's 26 years and 5 months old now so in 5 years from now at the end of a 5 year contract he will be 31 years and 5 months old as @Dr. Gonzo pointed out.
  9. Arithmetic not your strong point? Next year would be 1st year of a 5 year contract, that means there would be 4 more years. 1 + 4 = 5 and 27 + 4 = 31. Try counting it on your fingers.
  10. There'd be other suitors - Essendon, Carlton, Sydney, Freo, Norf, Hawforn, Saints - they could all use him.
  11. Truly incredible in every possible way!
  12. I totally agree. Weid is on the way to being a very good player. He's a smart footballer, brave in the air, a beautiful kick and contrary to popular belief he's fine at ground level and a great creative handballer on both sides which is rare. He needed a mature partner in crime and that was supposed to be TMac. Jackson helped but then at the crucial time he got injured. Brown is useful but not as a key marking target. Weid flies against 2-3 tall defenders and Fritsch reaps the benefits - if only he could convert ... Next year with Jackson and Petty to draw defenders and, assist and a year's more growth into a 23yo body he will really establish himself. I get it that the FD is saying we need more mature forward targets but I cannot see any available where cost-benefit is delivered.
  13. I honestly do not understand what you are trying to say. For the record, there is NO WAY that Tom McDonald has ever said he'll only play if Oscar McDonald is selected.
  14. I seriously believe you should not be perpetuating such damaging allegations without an absolutely iron-clad source. IMO there is NO WAY this can be correct.
  15. Looking at @Lucifer's Hero out-of-contract list from a role point of view (in playing # order) gives some insight: Tall Back: OMac Medium Back: Hibberd, Hore, J.Wagner, Smith, Small Back: Nietschke, Lockhart R: Bradtke Mids: Jones, Viney, Jordon, Sparrow, Dunkley Tall Fwd: Petty, Brown Medium Fwd: Hannan, Hunt, Fritsch Small Fwd: Spargo, Bedford, Bennell, Chandler, C.Wagner It depends how much depth we believe we have elsewhere in those roles and who we might be bringing in, but Medium Backs, Mids, Medium Fwds and Small Fwds look overstocked.
  16. He's definitely got a better chance of getting a date with you than being an AFL coach next year.
  17. I agree Fritsch is frustrating, he misses too many shots he should kick but this is fixable, he is weak defensively and that's his greatest problem IMO. There's no doubt Gunston is superior but it's not our biggest problem and where I'd spend scarce resources.
  18. That's complete rubbish. Our 10 best players this year are all 28 years old or younger and most of them are 24yo or younger. May 28, Gawn 28, Viney 26, Salem 25, Petracca 24, Lever 24, Langdon 24, Brayshaw 24, Oliver 23 and Fritsch 23. Weid 23, Petty 20 and Sparrow 20 are all developing and there's high hopes for Jordon 19. That doesn't even take into account Jackson, Pickett and Rivers who all showed they will be at least good AFL players.
  19. I'd prefer to keep Fritsch - 24yo next year and still with scope to improve vs Gunston at 29yo who will cost a lot more. https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_player_compare?playerStatus1=A&tid1=12&playerStatus2=A&tid2=11&type=A&pid1=6505&pid2=3342&fid1=S&fid2=S Gunston is not going to solve our forward line issues, we need a strong marking target (supposed to have been TMac) and more dangerous tackling crumbers.
  20. No-one here can make a sensible call on Jordon, Nietschke, Chandler, Dunkley or Bradtke given the season we've had and the fact that we haven't been able to see them play. The FD however will know what they want to do.
  21. Yes it surely has, but if there is a change it would be yet to be announced, we were possibly playing finals about 12 hours ago. I think Goodwin will stay unless Bartlett and Pert have Clarkson in a hat. I agree Mahoney has done a very good job but he and the club may feel it's time to move on. It will be an interesting week.
  22. There is absolutely no chance that we'll sack Goodwin and replace him with Jordan Lewis who has never coached a day of football.
