  1. ? ? You understand? But my view(?) is flawed is it not? And I didn't know you have to kick it to the forward line, didn't I? I completely agree. That is why when we are hemmed up against the boundary line I like to see my players have some confidence in their kicking and their ability and go backwards into the middle and try and go through the guts. And the passive aggressiveness is back... Yeah, I have no confidence in my team, but I would like them to trust their kicking and play with boldness... We don't have the greatest kicks in the backline, and on that I agree, but I would still prefer them to play the gameplan, and attempt those kicks that they occassionally screw up so that we can get the ball into the middle of the ground and take it through the guts. As an aside, the dearth of decent kicks will mean Davey will spend time there getting us moving.
  2. Collingwood have got an extremely good press. And when all St Kilda have is a high pressing CHF and nothing else it makes it difficult to move the footy - all you have to do is block their run and get around Riewoldt and say 'go ahead, kick it to Kossie.' And the St Kilda players rightly said 'nah.'
  3. You cannot kick into the forward line from half back. We have an exciting gameplan. What I am saying is that when Grimes or Batram or Rivers kick backwards-across goal-sideways, they are trying to open the field up to play that running attacking game off halfback and through the centre. It is necessary at times, and much 'braver' than pumping it down the boundary line to a 50-50 on centre-wing.. And it is instruction.
  4. It's more a forced, defensive yawn. And they do not want Hunt to do well, at all. They are so convinced he will fail that if he doesn't the northern states will see hyperventilation in apocalyptic measure. They see it as an existential threat, really. It's a little bit pathetic... Not as pathetic as Craig Foster's "I think rubbishing the passions of AFL and NRL supporters will win them over to the A-League" dogma of late. Who does that orange-faced bloke think he is? Anyway...
  5. You best get used to us kicking backwards and sideways across half back - it is apart of the 'switch' of play which is a cornerstone of modern football. Kicking forwards along the boundary line generally reduces the amount of direct turnovers but it is a 'safe' option that coaches hate. We are a daring, corridor-centric footy team and that means sometimes our players are going give it up trying to get that footy through the middle or over to the 'fat' side. I applaud the boldness, really.
  6. Well, the world is a small one - Tom has moved into an apartment in the south eastern suburb (my old suburb) in Melbourne. Good possie too. About 30 mins along the freeway to Casey and 20 mins to the city. Apparently with another girl, I would say sister. So I guess I can corroborate part of what another poster said earlier. This doesn't mean 'he is going nowhere' but it is interesting to note that if someone was to have already signed (as a few on here contend) then they would most likely stay at home until they go north, rather than move twice in 10 months. Because if there is one immutable truth, it is that moving sucks...
  7. Had an event once with swearing, vulgar stories, and many in the crowd uneasy about the situation. The footballer in question? Tony Abbott.
  8. Scully, Watts - 1 Trengove - 2 Sylvia - 3 Morton - 4 I said nearly... F..., Carlton should be better than they are...
  9. Careful. Talk like that will start another handwringing thread.
  10. Touched on that in another post. We will 'underpay' Frawley in a couple years time. And as with most things in footy - it is up to subjective interpretation.
  11. Woewodin, Yze, White, and Bruce were great servants of this club. Scully, Trengove, Watts, Frawley, et al. are a different talent rating. If we overpay, we might actually get what we paid for...
  12. But when you are in a 'false economy' like the one we find ourselves with GWS - you have to pay more than you want to. I'm sure that Frawley at 25 when he is on the same he is on at 22 will be paid 'under market.' I'd leave it to Tim Harrington to sort out, they would have thought about this. I don't know the stats but we must have near the most top 5 picks. We have talent, and that talent means demand, and that demand means we will be handing over a lot of dead presidents. I realise that term is american, I just like it.
  13. Heh. Yeah, it's changed from 'how can he leave for ridiculous money when we would give him over-market money?!' to 'I really hope the club doesn't succumb to paying over-market money!'
  14. But you know what they say... Where there is smoke, there is usually a meandering savant starting a brush fire. It's funny though. So many on here gearing themselves for Tom to leave on nothing more than idle rumour.
  15. I think he meant - we don't want to pay over market the way we have for Woewodin and a few others.
  16. Welcome to the wonderful world of keeping generational talent. We're not used to this. Happened a little with Davey and Green but Scully, Trengove et al. are destined for bigger things. Clubs will target them. We will pay them very well. We might actually get value for money...
  17. Then you would have to do that for everyone, and I would prefer to use the increase in the cap for some wriggle room to keep our stars (the club are apparently keen to get a star when FA kicks in, but I don't think it's required).
  18. Why sign a contract in the environment of a CBA that will be superceded soon? The pool might be similar, or it might be a helluva lot more, which means that the cap may be raised (the AFLPA are pushing for this). Velocity are doing the right thing by their client. Scully at market (which would be lucky to get) might get $50k more purely on the new CBA arising from the extra TV money. TBH, the more I think about it, the better the approach that Velocity is taking. Not as an MFC supporter, but as a professional business representing their client.
  19. Been great value. Probably benefits most from Bruce pissing off.
  20. And simplicity can be subjective at times can't it? I can't be stuffed editing it, but point taken.
  21. He will earn $5-7m net in 15 years for the Dees. His family would prefer he stay in the state. I have no inside knowledge, only common sense and personal experience. And don't patronise his 'blue collar' family. I am sure they just want their son to be happy, and will not have their financial security ahead of that happiness.
  22. I have no idea of the veracity of your claims, and I don't base my views on any 'inside' knowledge. Occam's Razor tells me that he hasn't signed, he is entitled to wait, we shouldn't be worried, we will pay over market, and he should be kept from answering the bottomless pit of questions that journos would have for him. The next move for the club - let it be. We will give him an offer in time, it will be a good one, keep him from pressers not involving the words 're-signing today,' and don't confront him or give him an ultimatum. We are the MFC and we keep our best players.
  23. I'll be down for the Sydney game - any drunken lout booing Tom gets verbally dissected by me to the point of total embarrassment to those around him. I don't think it'll happen but I won't allow one instance of it. Anyone thinking with evidence of nothing but rumour that he is leaving doesn't have the right to embarrass my club.
