We have already discussed Brad's failings at length - and we are right. So I will just touch on the denial thing. The players are the ones in denial. This is worth a thread on its own but the club (i'm picking this up from Caro's list of player grievances and a few things that I have heard about Schwab's mantra behind closed doors) is split into two camps: The Premiership Model camp Schwab, Connolly, and many others are pushing the well worn 'get games into the kids at the expense of present fixtures' with the players like MacDonald, Warnock, Dunn, and Bate missing games to kids while still being in form for Casey. The idea is to build for a flag, senior players are being left behind and their is some resentment. The Competitive Right Now camp The senior players and a few around the club (like a few on here) want to put up the 'best' team every week ('best team' is subjective). The senior players have been rebuffed as the Premiership Model has held sway. My personal view is that the senior players are in denial, and understandably so, for if they were to sacrifice themselves to the truth they would realise they will soon be sacrificed. I have heard that Bailey was playing both sides of this and maybe as head coach he had to... I don't like to see Melbourne footy players at odds with the admin but if this is the real gripe, and it is my inference I will remind you, then I am far more comfortable with the present situation as it means that the club is trying to do the right thing (pushing for a flag)- and the conflict has been brought about by players selfishly, but understandably, being fearful for their own future.

Now this is a different argument... We will get there.
-
Poor old WCE... Wouldn't be a chance for the top 4 this year if we had a two-tier system...
-
I understand people not knowing exactly what Garry is doing - I read Scotty West on the AFL website with Matthews share his confusion... He is effectively a Board member Football Director that Leoncelli filled for a couple of years up until this year. CS and CC have been apparently all over the place with their performance and the Football Director is the one who has the ear of the LG, the Admin, the Coach, and CS and CC. I don't have a problem with that role, in fact I think it is essential that the board knows what is happening.

I think you are reaching here. CEOs can't be judged on flags. Or finals appearances. Collingwood have had their issues. I am not pleased with how Schwab has handled himself but I am not following where you are coming from.

That's your opinion based on your opinion that Royal isn't a good defensive coach. I feel that they will all go. It's a shame but the tar brush is wide and sicky...
-
He's like a cheap consultant who knows footy and can be expected to be loyal. I don't really have a problem with it being a short term thing. We need someone in that position - we have no-one putting their hand up except for someone who doesn't want to do it long term. I'm certain that there is a past plaeyr out there that will be appointed footy director after Lyon departs. So if Lyon can help: - unite the club - get a coach - deliver some home truths - get a football director ...then I am fine with it being a short-term thing.
-
The Football Director is supposed to be the conduit between the Board and the FD - Leoncelli was the person in this position up until 2011. Connolly's role is ambiguous but is more day-to-day than the Football Director.

Cameras are very close.

I don't think CS was the one that 'blabbed' if this is indeed the case. The club is leaking like a sieve at the moment.
-
Draft or trade? I'm assuming trade. It's a good idea, if people can swallow periphery players suddenly playing for another team.
-
This. The club has the week it has, and where do some minds go? "This is because of Tom Scully!!" We need to get our house in order.
-
Is anyone thinking 'who cares?' Nothing will happen. Nothing.
-
Then move on. He will decide in Sept. We have got our own decisions to make.
-
There would have to be another issue - but Laurie can be a stubborn p...k. Those quotes suggest he has had a chat to a consultant and taken it to heart. The Hankook logo is this huge white thing - people see it... Maybe he was priced out of the market - he was a reluctant sponsor to begin with - helping us out when no-one else would.
-
Or it could be BS... Bailey enforcing this? WTF? why would he be near this stuff? Where is Harrington? He's the bloke who actually does this stuff.

Do tell...

Cameron Schwab use as a sacrifice to keep Tom Scully
rpfc replied to 7-UP's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree that CS has been a meddlesome [censored] when it comes to footy affairs and that loan was odd to say the least... However, point 2 is BS - what Cameron very clumsily said was that we had the space to pay $1m but that we wouldn't break our wage structure because it would endanger the future. CS says here that "We assume that this group is going to be the group which is the Melbourne footy club team for the next decade or so, We've got to make sure we look after all of them." The hiring of FD people (point 3) is in the domain of the CEO. It would have been best if Bailey was in Melbourne at the time, but I don't even think Viney was in Melbourne when he agreed to come... -
No. We have other, more complicated things to worry about than Tom Scully. He stays, or goes, the choice is clear. Can we get our house in order before giving ultimatums to people to stay in our pigsty?
-
I would have said the same thing last year but he has been our most consistent midfielder this season. He's limited, but that doesn't mean his time at the club is.
-
We are not trying to run the club, we are trying to understand how others ran it so badly... They are all adults (we think...), they can deal with some criticism. In fact, they are all going to give each other words I am sure...
-
Well do they?!! I can't hear them?!!
-
I understand where you are coming from. I can't defend the failures of the board in this mess. I guess I am just disappointed with a bunch of Melbourne people - Schwab, Connolly, Green, Jones, Rivers, etc. being so, even unintentionally, destructive to the MFC. I have no issues with the where the buck stops. I am more focussed on the passing and ignoring of the buck along the way...
