Nope. And neither does Collingwood, given he's fit but not playing.

    Actually, that's not correct:

Look, I'm with you on the uncomfortable part of the loss. The Collingwood side who played yesterday was not the 2018 GF team or the dominant 2018-20 Pies side. We can't keep losing games to weak sides.

Meantime, Collingwood interim coach Robert Harvey has included Mason Cox to the Pies' side for the first time since round four to face Fremantle on Saturday.

I also think part of our clearance struggles has been the expected dominance not being met at times, because as you say Gawn isn't at his absolute best. when Jackson goes in there the mids just read the ball and we do seem to win it a bit more regularly.

definitely something the coaches could play with. even a 50/50 split in the ruck between the two could change the look of the game.

And please get Viney back in the centre too! How long can a toe take to heal? Chop it off!

Not an unreasonable post: I'm one of those fans who thinks the criticism of Gawn is usually too harsh but I didn't like his game yesterday, particularly given the vanilla-ness of his opponent.

One issue I do have with your post is the double reference to Collingwood missing players. They were actually missing only three of their best 22: Adams, Grundy and Howe. Good players all of them, obviously, but this wasn't a decimated Pies outfit. Doesn't really change much but still.

So you don’t rate Mason Cox?

  4. The centre tap outs and clearances were mostly their way. They constantly had multiple players standing in space to whom an easy kick could be sent with no MFC player within cooee of them. Apparently this is zone defence. Surely when the coaching staff and players noticed that the opposition was taking multiple uncontested marks they would consider manning up more, especially in the last quarter when it was still possible to win. This was a very poor performance against a bottom four team.

Both Tmac and Fritsch had poor games but both got the ball twice more than Weid, hit the scoreboard and had more tackles. Most of the side had a poor game. Weid was the only hopeless one.

They flooded their back fifty very effectively.

  6. 2 weeks ago Gerard Whately referred to the Collingwood vs Geelong game as the worst game of footy he’d ever seen, during the game. This was due to the Collingwood side’s poor performance and dour style of play. I agreed with him at the time. They were atrocious. But today they played out of their skins for Buckley. They won’t make finals.

Am glad you added the rider of experience. And agree there is a big difference between commentator and journalist.

While I would agree no-one really hates Melbourne, Journalists are grudge holders on a par with politicians and have seen alot of unprofessional behaviour from that cadre, that has at times potted Melbourne as a consequence.

Thousands of journalists have zero professional qualifications. They have secured a job to sell the news. That’s all. They don’t tell the truth unless it sells the ‘news’. A journalist is someone who verbally or in writing provides a commentary on current events. That may include some ‘analysis’ which is often just opinion based on their personal allegiances or personal biases.

Daisy Pearce is definitely not a journalist. She's a midwife who commentates occasionally at football matches. Journalism is much more than that.

And I can't think of one journalist who "hates" Melbourne (or any other team).

She is frequently on SEN as a journalist, discussing football both men’s and women’s.  She also has long discussions with Whately. Don’t be so disdainful of midwives! They aid the delivery of babies under difficult circumstances in hospital and in people’s homes. They do a great job. Many journalists have other jobs. What pray tell is your definition of a journalist? Have a listen to Dermott Bretton some time. He hates Melbourne with a passion.

I actually have to agree, not with the Razor Ray bit but the umpiring overall.

Unlike last week, I didn't think they were continually making mistakes.

There was a deliberate I didn't like, but generally I didn't notice them that much and that is always a good thing.

So who is the best then?

You can dislike her if you want, but don't make [censored] up, she reported heavily and insistently on the drugs saga.

    Daisy isn't a journalist, she's a commentator.

    Caro isn't a commentator, she's a journalist.

They're both excellent at what they do. Caro doesn't "hate" MFC, she's open about being a Richmond fan but she attacks them when she should (e.g. the Shai Bolton nightclub incident, Hardwick's anti-Marvel comments, Hardwick's violence-related comments last year, Stack's nightclub incident last year).

It's really remarkable how many MFC fans think that commentators "hate" us, or are out to get us, or actively want us to fail, or whatever.

Both are journalists. One is verbal mostly. The other writes more. The reason fans think commentators hate us is because they do. Watch how many times Caroline Wilson or Dermott Brereton tip Melbourne to win. Biased.

  11. I do not believe Caroline Wilson is a good journalist. She is far too biased. She is a one-eyed Richmond supporter and absolutely hates MFC. She has demonstrated these biases on multiple occasions. She also often appears to make stuff up and calls it “sources say xyz” or some such drivel.

Daisy Pearce is far, far better and not just because she’s one of ours. She’s smart and emotionally intelligent as well.

Sometimes, however I do agree with Caroline Wilson, and she was fair and correct in her assessment of the recent assault in a nightclub case. They should have walked away.

Can’t agree, as once again there was horrible inconsistency around the tackle rules. Better than last week most certainly, and evenly distributed to both teams, but still woefully unpredictable. I have no idea which way they’ll decide on tackles more than 70 percent of the time. Needs fixing.

We won. And we deserved to win. Stop whinging.

I agree. The dogs basically would have gotten more out of a intra club match last Saturday night.

The Saints are the worst team in it. not the type of game you want before a huge clash! Half their mids won't get that much of a free run at it and will actually have to run two ways this week!

    Viney’s not playing.

  14. Last year when we played the doggies  Bontempelli was completely allowed to run free and carved us up. He is the Bulldogs. Without him they would not be on top of the ladder. I hope there’s a plan to tag him properly or shut him down.
