The Anti-Goodwin High Risk, High Reward Best 22 of 23'

    Sponsored by Werridee

    FB: Tomlinson May Hunt
    HB: Bowey Lever Salem
    C: Langdon Brayshaw Howes
    HF: Spargo JVR Petracca
    FF: Fritsch Petty Pickett
    INT: Harmes Rivers Jordon Bedford

    • Moderate downgrade in the backline (Tomlinson in for Petty), to allow a massive upgrade in the forward line
    • JVR in
    • Added outside speed & X-factor: Howes IN for Sparrow & Bedford IN for ANB
    • Hibberd every chance to feature should he go on
    • Grundy (?) probably comes in for Rivers (Brayshaw can pinch hit as 7th defender)

So you don’t rate Clayton Oliver?

Started year 10-0, only to go out in straight sets.

The fact that teams cottoned on to how to play us and that we had no plan B or C and only became more stubbornly reliant on an ineffective style is an indictment on the entire coaching team.

    A wasted season indeed.

The only half decent teams we played in the first ten rounds were Richmond and Western Bulldogs, both of whom bowed out quickly in the finals.

  3. How did we lose to a team that we absolutely thrashed twice this year? Backwards kicks, dumb decision-making, hand passing to players about to be tackled, kicking long before looking who we they were kicking to. Stupid 50m penalties X2.
Last year our final quarters were unbeatable. The past several weeks our final quarters have been absolutely disastrous. Is the loss of the fitness coach a factor?

Some retirement announcements expected in the off season.

    Reset for a new year.

Don’t expect any more premierships in the near future.

Sounds a bit like the walking wounded! So we have Trac limping, Fritsch only hopeful of playing, Spargo doubtful, Jackson with a knee injury that requires surgery, Brown with a knee, Gawn NQR (ankle?), Lever with a foot concern, Oliver with a recently fractured thumb. Have I missed anyone? What was that old adage about taking injured players into finals?

Every player was moving freely. Petracca’s kicking for goal was a bit off, but it always is! I’d imagine his kicking with his injured right leg will be a bit off for a couple of weeks at least. Fritsch and Spargo looked absolutely fine, as did Jackson and Ben Brown. I would guess that they’ll play Petracca and take him off at the first sign of sluggishness to be replaced with Van Rooyen who looks ready to go.

Blaming Jackson?? He’s already been playing well for us in the last few games and I can’t see him slowing down for the remaining games. I hate this idea that if someone is likely to leave the club, they should be made to play out their remaining games in the VFL.

Jackson obviously loves the club and his team mates, but he obviously has a strong desire to be in the same place as his family.

He’s a big boy. Time to make a family of his own!

What does Dean Kent got do with Teams R23 team v Brisbane ?  Get on the St.Kilda website you people .

News report we are adding grunt to our team by including Harmes. Have I missed something we didn't need grunt because Harmes played for Casey !!!! This team is more vanilla than vanilla (poor comparison I suppose ) , we don't have any aces up or sleeve i.e Joel Smith  or JVR . We will get done . Maybe we should offer Hird a an assistant coach position, actually Hird has more of a footy brain than Goody.

Van Rooyen had 8 disposals and kicked one point at VFL level last weekend.

Joel Smith or JVR in the forward line to create some dynamic contests.

Bowey in for Salem who has been awful all year.

Harmes in to tag Neale and remain a tagger for rest of his career because that’s where he plays his best football.

ANB or Spargo out because they simply do not provide the crumbing up forward we need.

Ben Brown out even though Weideman hasn’t been good we seem to play better with him in the team. I prefer Weideman to Jackson (contract distracted) as the second ruck at the moment.

Get Jordon the handbrake off the wing.

Do we have a better option than Sparrow?

JVR kicked one point for the VFL on the weekend and had a very low possession count. He’s never played AFL and won’t this year. Salem has been steadily improving the past few weeks. Weidemann has been pretty useless this year in the AFL.

It makes you wonder whether they are serious about the business of winning a Premiership. Mundy is an awesome player and I'd still rate as among their best players.

It’s reminiscent of North forcing Brent Harvey out when he was in blistering form at the back end of his career. And look at North now…

What I don’t understand is how we a premiership team can’t attract any of the better key fwds over and yet freo is able to poach Jackson. What is going on

Because his family are in Perth.

Nah I'm cranky because the self righteous lynch mob keeps pontificating on Demonland.

Agree. What a total beat up by the press. This poor chap was out having fun with consenting women. Leave him alone.

If Turner had not been concussed and Max had not been playing injured then the result would have been closer as it threw our structures out of whack and the Pies smartly capitalized on this. Petty also looked hurt after a big clash in the third as well.

Mitch Brown had to be moved to defense to cover Turner and then when Max went off in the third, Cox sat in the hole in our forward line and grabbed everything because Ben Brown was double-teamed and Fritsch was well-held. Why on earth our mids kept bombing it into the forward line in the third and fourth quarters is beyond me, that was a stupid tactic and it cost us momentum and ultimately the game.

The competition is very close and every team knows us very well. Once our game plan came apart at the seams as the injuries mounted the momentum started changing, McCrae changed tactics and the result was inevitable. Good coaching by the Pies.

But we head into the bye at the pointy end of the ladder and the two weeks break should be really good for us to put a better team on the park in a couple of weeks

Except it’s only a nine day break until we play the top of the ladder team on the Thursday evening.

  12. It’s not about individual players. Most of these players are premiership players. It’s about not following the game plan. The players are kicking sideways, hand passing galore until the forward line is absolutely flooded with opposition players. Mostly. Or kicking the ball always to Gawn in the field. He’s triple teamed by opposition players.

I think our small defenders will be tested this week. Hibberd and Rivers are good lock down defenders and both come in this week. Hunt goes out, Salem to play Half forward.

Having Steven May back will help with general organisation.

Forwarline needs another look. Might be worth going smaller. I’d drop Mitch Brown for Bedford. Having he and Salem will help with pressure, ball use and connection.

I would like to see midfielders more accountable on defence. We also need to use the corridor more, with quicker movement. Last week was slow and safe and the forwards never had a chance.

There was a lot of hand passing in close thus allowing the opposition backs to flood the fifty, making it hard for our forwards to do anything.
