I think we’ll take pick 6 + (?) for 3, and take Weightman at 7. I just hope (?) is something decent. Would GWS’s future 1st rounder be enough, which we could try to on trade for another pick this year, in the lead up to the draft?

He trained at Carlton last year in the pre season and took one of the greatest hangars you have seen
What is your opinion of him strictly as a small forward (as he is also a mid) vs Weightman playing forward (not really much of a mid)?

Serong
Or Serong, but he’s not as much of a specialist, goal kicking forward. If we keep 3, I think we take Serong though. Better player.

What I found interesting is he seemed to be saying no to a small forward in the trade period, but yes they would try in the draft. This makes me think we want to split the pick & draft Weightman.

It would be interesting to see a list of assets from our end that would compliment pick 3 well enough to trade down to pick 6.
I personally wouldn't mind (excluding superstars who we'd clearly want)
Finlayson
Williams
Caldwell
Hill
2020 first round pick
Daniels
I was thinking Daniels would be a good fit. But would we ask for more? Hill only just signed not long ago, so I doubt we would get him.

Are GWS in a worse position points wise after that trade? If so that would strengthen our hand. They really need 3 to make it worth it
Yes, 12 & 18 are worth more, points wise, than 6. So you would assume GWS are trying to get our 3

My only problem is why did we recruit Tomlinson then? He’d have to move either forward or back and probably completely changes why he was recruited in the first place. Also Freo were demanding 2 1st rounders for Hill. How is that going to get both Hill and Langdon done? We’d be selling the farm to get both done and paying out the a for Hill. We need to be saving this money for a decent forward
We wouldn’t have known Hill might have been available when we signed Tomlinson, but he is versatile, so I think that would be ok. On trade radio they are saying we would need to use 3 only, I’m guessing because it’s such a high pick. I would argue say 700 would be money well spent, and look for a forward later. We haven’t heard mention of a decent forward wanting to come to us at the moment anyway.

If we could split the 3 into a 6 and say a 10, we could give Freo the 6 for Hill and use the other in the draft. We would be under no obligation to offer the ridiculous coin that the Saints have. Although, do we need both Hill and Langdon?
I don’t think Freo would accept say just a 6 for Hill, but would accept 3. Also, I think if we could get 2 top 10 picks from GWS we would take them to the draft. I also think we do need both Hill & Langdon, one on each wing.

Too expensive on the books for mine. Langdon will do us well at a lesser expense
On trade radio, they were suggesting 3 & 22, for Hill & Langdon. Would be great having one on each wing.

They were suggesting on trade radio that 3 should get it done. We also have the Elliot money left over. Also, Bell seems the type to hold a grudge, so might want to deal with someone other than the saints to make a statement.
-
If we have the money, should we go all out for Hill with pick 3? He’s exactly the type of player we need.

This is the link to the channel 7 news, where they talk about the potential swap. It's at about 35 mins in. Not much on the swap, but here it is anyway.

If true, they are calling our bluff, and saying we wouldn't take another inside mid. I would let GWS know that we would, out of principle alone. There is no way they will not bid on him, especially with the discount in points they get.
-
It was said today on Trade Radio that GWS were still looking to trade up for a better pick. I still believe that they are after pick 3, to get the extra pick first. I suspect they are trying to upgrade picks, that involve 18, to turn it into a top 10 pick, to go with 12, to offer us. I would expect that they would be talking to us, whilst doing this, to make sure we would take the deal.

Cody Weightman at Pick 28? Not so sure about that..

After Bell messing us around last year, I would offer them next years 2nd, & hold that position. It’s not how we operate though.

If I had to keep pick 3, it’d be Serong. He’ll probably end up like Ainsworth at the suns.
But I’m firm on splitting the pick.
It’s great that Young is a fantastic kick, but it’s a pre-requisite that the selection can find/win their own ball. From what little I know, he skirts round the back for a lot of cheap handballs. Intercept marking is a nice bonus, but if he’s to be a small defender, he has to be capable of winning a hard ground ball and playing tight. No indication of that yet.
And if we split it, we could have the good chance of a combination of Stephens, Weightman and/or Robertson, which would be a serious win.
I agree about Serong. But yeah, we are looking to split. I think a realistic, best case scenario is getting Weightman & Stephens. It would immediately fill two positions that we need filled.

Not really. It might have been posted four days after the one in the OP, but he's updated that to include the priority picks. It's more up to date than the AFL one.
My bad, I meant to post this one from September:

I also didn’t realise that the other one had been been updated. My mistake.

I've heard a number of times Taylor rates Cody Weightman as 3rd best player - however, others don't and that's why we could look to split pick.
Yeah I also believe this to be true. Problem is, he seems to be this years bolter, and is rated higher each time a new phantom draft comes out. He may go as high as 10, so we have to be careful if we split pick 3, that we can still land him.

If we can somehow split pick 3, and draft Stephens & Weightman, that would be the ideal scenario imo

Maybe the pick and/or a player then. Or maybe GWS will trade picks with others. I still believe GWS will end up with our 3.
