We're all arguing over Yze as if his presence was an underlying reason for our poor performance in 2007, or that he will drive our resurgence next year.
2008 will be defined by the incidence of injuries to key players (as all seasons at all clubs are) and the development of a young midfield group and the mental capacity of our 'senior' players.
A FP coming back from injury is not what we should worry ourselves about.
Too true.......
but i still think he will have good year next year
-
how about:
Brad Green for ryan murphy and an exchange of second round picks or just a straight swap
-
The only way he'll get consistent game time next season, is if Davey spends even more time in the midfield (an idea I hate).
We have an issue with crumbers and putting pressure on the opposition's defenders when the ball hits the deck. Sadly, because Yze hates chasing and rarely tackles, he does not satisfy our needs. He can however kick goals out of his arse when the ball lands in his lap.
2008 will be his last year without a doubt.
I look forward to Adem proving you and all other doubters wrond in season 2008.
In fact 2008 will be year where the MFC proves alot of people wrong.

"if we could trade in a player who is in that 23 or under age bracket that helps us in a specific area, then we'd like to do that too"
This worries me because i think trading players under 23 is very risky. Unless its Sylvia, CJ or Warnock, i dont see the advantage of trading young players
By "trade in" he means get a player from another club not trade one of ours. Hopefully he is looking at murphy so we have a future spine of
newton
murphy
meeson
Rivers
Frawley
Hopefully frawley can take the second best forward and free up Rivers to take the 3rd best next season

Much better

I think alot of people are looking at one extreme, his not as timid and soft as everyone is making out that he is, in the last two years i have seen him lay tackles and be tackled. Sure he doesn't charge into heavy traffic or get 4 tackles a game and plays mainly as a reciever, but he does things that few players can like turing a game on his own boot.
-
Get rid of rowan jones......... he is a terrible player. Swap him with Andrew Thompson
-
Not every player has to be a hard nut, you need outside midfielders, and players to spark the team with a moment of magic by doing the impossible. Yze is one of these players, next year he will be a very good player for us. His skills where something we sorely missed this year.
-
lets hope beemer can get his groin right...cos gee he was my fav when he came over here...had a ripper 2005...his clearance work and long kicking is something to envy when he's right....dogged years with injury past 2.
amen to that he used to bust open packs and create space for the other midfielders. Very important player for us.
-
IMO yze will step up, no matter what type of year we have, this season will not be his last.
A permanent forward pocked role beckons for the next 2-3 years.
-
There is know way that i want cousins at melburne...... with the amount of [censored] i have given eagles supporters because of his drug addiction i would cop it big time. Good role model on the field, terrible off the field.
though he would add a lot of speed to the midfield.
-
As to Carrol, you can say what you like about midfield pressure, but he is often beaten in one on one marking contests not involving a lead. Aside from this he is not terrible and is a very serviceable fullback, but not a premiership fullback.
-
Palmer Palmer Palmer. Our midfield is screaming out for a player like him.
We have NO pace. Not a dicky bird. With pace comes clearances, running through the lines, and kicking running goals. Palmer is solid, quick, and skillful. I can tell you straight off that if you asked him, he would say he modelled his game on Chris Judd. You can just see it in the way he plays.
Yeah i think your right. i will ask him next time i see him, its definately judd or cousins...... not sure though

sylvinator good post, but imo only holes 1 and 2 are critical, the rest are problems that can be solved easier then 1,2 with later draft picks, psd. We need two top 10 draft picks and our spine will be setup for the next 8-10 years

A new era is dawning at the MFC

This is the sort of [censored] posted on bigfooty so I wouldn't be worried until Judd nominates the filth.
The Chris Judd trade deal
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pick 2 + Foley to Carlton for Fevola
Fevola to Collingwood for Reid and Dawes
Reid and Dawes to Bulldogs for Pick 5 + Adam Cooney
Pick 5 to Geelong for James Bartel
Foley to Sydney for Nick Malceski
James Bartel to Sydney for Brett Kirk + Heath Grundy
Heath Grundy to Essendon for Jason Laycock
James Bartel to St Kilda for Nick Riewolft
Nick Riewoldt to Kangaroos for Daniel Wells + Brent Harvey
Brent Harvey to Hawthorn for Shane Crawford
Crawford to Melbourne for Travis Johnstone
Travis Johnstone to St Kilda for Luke Ball
James Bartel + Travis Johnstone to Eagles for Chris Judd
Chris Judd to Collingwood for Josh Fraser and Alan Didak
looks about right

Not that I want to see him go there, but if Judd is to go to the McPies, the Rusling, Brown and pick 14 to the Weagles is the deal I'd like to see. This would SERIOUSLY deplete the McPie's tall stocks. Not only would they lose two young talls with great potential, they couldn't even use their draft pick to try and get a replacement. i know I posted the rumour, but in the light of Clements departure, and Wakelin, Rocca to follow suit sooner rather than later, it doesn't seem likely. If it happens, the McPies will take steps backward (which I could deal with).
beat me to it, cant see the pies going for this trade,
imagine WCE next year with two exta young talls, something they've been missing in the forward line. They will be hard to beat.
-
He is overrated, and Bartel his mate will go down as a worse Brownlow winner than Woewodin
There is no doubt he has had a great year, whether he is overated or not thats yet to be seen. If he backs up this year with a similar one next year then he deserves all the plaudits he gets.

I watch tons of Saints games cause the misses whole family barracks for them (except for her, converted, good girl).
Goose is a terrific player.
My whole family are saints supporters, except me of course, and goose is the big bodied kpp we need, he is also a good long kick of the footy. With him in the team we can give frawley the time he needs to bulk up and bring him in for carrol in 2 years
-
If robbo does leave i for one will miss him right up until Judd or Rance and Henderson(pick 4,5) walk in the door.
-
Geez picks 4, 6, 21, 37, 53, 69 in the draft would be sweet.
I'm starting to think Judd is not the answer. Teams win premierships, not individuals. If we got ourselves into this position I'd think we'd be silly not to use them to recruit a midfielder, key back and ruckman. Surely that leaves us in a better position then with Judd?
imagine pick 5 in there as well if we were to manufacture a trade involving robbo to the bullies
Jamar or PJ, or both?
in Melbourne Demons

We keep them both, you need at least 3 ruckmen on your list. As to who i value higher PJ by a country mile, but i don't see his future in the ruck, i have feeling bailey has a plan for him and he could develope into something special. A CHB maybe or is he too slow, a CHF that stays close to home is my bet, 3 tall forwards nietz, newton, Johnson.
