  1. Don't share the optimism of some on here.  I think Gawn has to poll at least 15 votes.  If you run the line through his coaches votes up to the last time they were reported he had 50 - including 4 10's and an 8.  That's pretty close to 5 best ons.  Oliver gets a lot of coaches votes obviously, but they can regularly be outside of the top 3 on the ground.  For mine Oliver, Petracca should get mid 20's, Gawn and Brayshaw likey mid to high teens.  Forget anyone else polling substantially from us.  Miller has got literally nobody taking votes off him and they won 10 games this year.  Miller often polls well in losses going by previous counts.  I reckon he's the one.  Neale will get plenty and I thin those two will finish ahead of our guys.  I expect we'll go close to the highest aggregate votes (likely with Geelong) but I also expect that by the time the count is done we'll all have bigger things on our minds.

Starcevich is probably the only one that sticks out. I think the lack of candidates actually says a lot without knowing the club very well. I could look at most top 8 clubs and fire off 3-4 players that could step into captaincy.

Lions at cross roads I think. They have ample evidence (like Geelong of past) that their brand doesn’t stack up in finals. Back to the drawing board.

I rate McInerney.  Big Oscar always has a crack.  He's no star but seems a decent guy who puts in.  No false bravado, just head down bum up.  He took on Jackson and Gawn pretty much solo last night and he wasn't disgraced.  That's the type of on field leadership they need.

It's one game - he is rated average for hit outs to advantage across the season at 29.9%.  English is 29.6% and rated below average.  I was impressed with him last night though.  He looked like a player who is fully invested. If he can play like that for another month he'll likely have another premiership medal.

It looked to me like Max was putting his arms up to mark the ball but not really trying to grab it.As if he is tired of being thumped in the contest week in week out

He was carrying a minor injury apparently.  There was some thought that he might have been a late out.  He seemed to mark ok once the game went on but his mobility was definitely not at its usual standard. Fortunately Jackson stepped up and played one of his better games for the year.

Gawn took Cameron apart and we lost. Finlayson got completely dominated by Draper. Hit out numbers were something like 60-10, and the Bombers lost by a trillion.

A dominant ruckman is only as good as his midfield, and can be easily neutralised.

I don't think a dominant ruckman is easily neutralized at all, and Collingwood are a much better side with a much greater chance of winning big games with Grundy in the ruck and Cameron the back up.  There was a game when Ablett kicked 14 for Geelong and they still lost.  There are often many reasons why a team loses.  A dominant ruckman helps not hinders.

  6. The game looks the way Collingwood like it at the moment.  The Swans are playing well but haven't capitalised.  Hoping the Swans can get it done.  I don't fear travelling to the SCG for the first final if that's how it rolls out.  No side is better on the road than the Demons.

  7. I like Cripps.  He's everything you'd want in a mid fielder.  He tackles, he doesn't fumble, he can take a decent over head mark and he can kick goals.  He played a great game last night and it's not his fault he was out there.  I'm pleased we beat them with him in the team.

  8. What a great game of footy!  Carlton are very competitive and play a finals brand.  If they don't make it this year, they'll be very dangerous next year.  Cripps is a champion.  Gawn was again outstanding.  His willingness to be in the right position behind the play contributed to his 8 score involvements.  Melksham's last goal was a direct result of Gawn's positioning (and a very good mark).  Brayshaw was a thorn in their side all night.  Most of our players were in and out of the game but as a unit they stood up when needed.  I'd be finding a spot for Harmes against Brisbane.  Hunt certainly keeps his spot based on last night.

Clarry's "lack of discipline" came after two centre bounces where he was blatantly blocked and held by Carlton's no. 43 (whomever he is). Yes, he shouldn't have responded the way he did, but FFS when will the umpires give Clarry the free kicks he deserves for this type of illegal manhandling off the ball?

Don't disagree as to why he was undisciplined but he needs to be better at evening up.  Gawn was blocked and held all night but still managed to play a composed and highly effective game.

Pittonet kills Max as a rule.

I don't think so.  They've played against each other twice in real games.  Round 2 2020 - Gawn 2 Brownlow votes, 21 disposals, 34 hitouts v Pittonet 14 disposals 23 hitouts.  Next game was the last time we played them - Round 9 2021 - Gawn 15 disposals, 44 hitouts v Pittonet 9 disposals, 23 hitouts and a goal.

Let’s hope if Gawn is forward more that he fixes his goal kicking.

Not much point in having him there to kick points.

Gawn has a career goalkicking record of 86 goals 78 behinds and this season has kicked 11 goals 13 behinds.  After the Swans game he was on 11 goals 9 behinds.  By comparison Petracca has kicked 16 goals 27 behinds.  Gawn's last couple of games have had some average shots, but over the season he's not far off 50/50.  If Tracc had been anywhere near that we win at least two more games, and top 2 is locked away.

  12. I do struggle to see how Grundy could be a forward given he doesn't mark much.  Career mark average per game is 3.5 (only 2 this year) and contested career average 0.9.  His metres gained isn't great,  he handballs a lot.  Tackles reasonably well for a big man, and averages less goals per game than Gawn.  I doubt the plan is for Grundy to spend much time forward.  Up until his injury Gawn had become nearly a reliable shot at goal, his last few weeks he has struggled with that.  It will be interesting to see what the plan is should a trade eventuate.  I very much doubt they'll go down this path but it's worth looking at.

  13. He has become particularly unlikeable.  I remember when Chip left, Jared Rivers, Lynden Dunn, Watts, etc and I only wanted to see them do well.  Not at our expense of course, but they'd given great service and publically at least seemed very appreciative of their time with us even if it hadn't been a bed of roses.  For me Howe is down there with Scully.

  14. Not a terrible set of results for us given that we didn't win.  Swap from 2nd to 3rd.  All of Swans, Collingwood, Brisbane and us have not dissimilar runs over the next two weeks. Swans v Pies, Saints, Brisbane v Saints, us, Collingwood v Swans, Blues, Us v Blues, Lions.  I reckon ths Saints have got at least one more win in them.  No doubt there will be a couple of upsets.
