  1. Agree with the general sentiments regarding Clarry.

He was good, but not THAT good. Not even very good?

I think (surprise surprise) the media is just looking for any opportunity to frame this as (solely) a Melbourne problem - i.e. those 2 guys are now blitzing it elsewhere (so it must have been us). Clarry played much like that in 2025, and I don't remember the media applauding him then?

Clarry was just nowhere near his best. AND it's just the start. Let's see him string a few of those together once the novelty of a new club/point to prove wears off. And the fitness/lack of is tested. And he's put under pressure by an opponent.

Don't get me wrong, I was a huge Clarry fan. And in a vacuum I still wish he was with us, but I didn't see anything that made me think we will miss out. I'd rather the kids we have on deck, who are hungry and look fit. There's the future.

Trac, on the other hand, was very good. But we know most/some of the issue was not his ability as such. Although I wish he had hit more of our guys on the chest like that, but that could/likely points back to the guys we had leading for the ball!

  2. Whatever you think about Maysie's more colourful moments, the truth is we don't have a flag without him. Simple. One of the best full backs in many, many years. Watching him and Lever hold teams to peanuts week in, week out, was a joy. A ruthless warrior on the field, he often led the way - I will never forget him almost winning that '23 semi-final against the blues, by himself.

    Go well, Maysie. Thank you.

  3. Really bummed for this kid, man he's had some rotten luck.

BUT, silver linings, could have been worse, so hopefully we see him out soon because I reckon he's gonna go great.

Our midfield has been incredibly one paced for many of the Goodwin years, which was not in itself always problematic but three midfield bulls doesn't seem to be what the game requires anymore.

We've now got Steele who ticks the contested possession beast box, we have the dynamism of kozzy and then the third is a suprise packet. Rivers, Culley, Langford, Windsor and even the much maligned sparrow (whose best footy is played in the middle and not in some pseudo high half forward role he was shoehorned into), are all incredibly exciting prospects.

We should not quickly forget that we still have the best ruckman in the game.

I'm not contending that we will win every centre clearance for the whole year but i think we've got a lot more to be excited about than it might seem.

Completely agree with all of that.

For all the 'gee the Dees don't have Clarry, Viney or Trac' there this year, well, yeah, but having them there last year (and the year before) didn't do much for us, anyway...

I reckon the kids will be great - being thrown into it, is the BEST way to learn. With the other 3 there, their opportunities will be limited. Not anymore. They have skills and now a golden opportunity.

We will lose a bit this year (again, that reality already set in last year), but now we will lose with promise of the next game and building towards something.

I think we will surprise a few. Seriously.

  5. Really excited about this one. And 2026, in general.

Don't know why. Not sure if it's deluded, baseless optimism, or a survival mechanism necessary for some of us, but so much seems fresh for next year. Lots of kids out there who will be hungry. And some of our favourites still there to guide the next gen. I think we will be a bit of a surprise packet and annoying to play against. Because of guys like this.

Especially when the poster clearly knows nothing about Clarrie, who he is and what makes him tick.

I can certainly see merit in the argument/view that Clarry should have said goodbye to his fans. Many of us supported him throughout, and particularly during trying times. Some of us wrote to the club to ask/ensure we wrap our arms around him. We did a lot for him but I think it's also fair to say the club has also made some mistakes. And we don't know everything. So, yeah I would have loved for him to say thanks and catch ya later.

    BUT

    Not everyone is the same.

Clarry does not strike me as a big talker/vocal type (and certainly do not see him posting much on socials), so truthfully, in the little I know of him, it does not surprise me in the least that he has not penned a thoughtful goodbye.

Given the unideal circumstances of his departure, it might all be a bit for raw for someone who seems to be very emotional and is likely still processing it all. Probably still feels hurt, whether or not all of it is valid is irrelevant. It's how he feels.

Maybe one day, when it all settles, he'll write us a goodbye/thanks. If he does, great. If he doesn't, it won't change a thing, at least for me. Still my favourite player to ever wear our colours. I appreciated the human, vulnerable side to him more than anyone else, and nothing will take away from the Bang Bang Bang... BANG. A club legend.

I wish him well, and who knows, maybe one day he'll come back and chat with us. Seems like he'd be good for a little yarn in a quiet setting without the cameras and leeches.

Interesting all the love on here for Culley. I think he's shown a couple of decent signs, and probably shoudn't have been delisted by West Coast, but I'd be very surprised if he's in our best 22 when we're challenging again.

Agree he's not walk-up, but we need guys with his enthusiasm. Thought his few games with us he showed a lot, really took his opportunity and would say the opportunities will keep him motivated to try and lock down a spot. I think he can.

I'm fortunate enough to have a wife who loves it as much as me. Means our holidays are usually going to metal festivals in Europe 😀

That's awesome! I am trying. I get her listening to some of the gateway metal acts I think work well (Mastodon, Gojira, Ghost, Baroness etc). And she puts up with my preferred stylings around the home, as I am training our little ones (2yo and 6yo haha) (I am mostly a black metal/atmo black/some death), so they get all of that plus the stuff I grew up on. They're getting there! My wife is making good progress 🤣

Def a good opener, Adam took over the vocals quite well, still prefer Chance but it was big boots to fill.

Within my blood would be killer too, but a little to much swears me thinks 😂

Agree! haha and that would be amazing (from a great album) - but to fair I doubt most would understand the lyrics anyway (my wife is always asking me how I understand the growls), so we might get away with it!

    Yep, will be nuts.

One of the things that is amazing about Amy Taylor as a performer is she creates such an awesome, encouraging space for women to fully enjoy themselves, be themselves, express themselves and go wild should they want to - something that in my experience is very rare in the ultra-alpha male space at hard rock gigs. She takes no [censored] and is a feminist icon that isn't afraid of her sexuality and power.

    And she totally rocks.

    100%

We need more Amys, and these gigs is one of the places where they're created.

Playing a free gig at fed square tgis friday with an up and coming local rock band Public Figures.

It will go off - and super, super packed - starts at 7:30 but I reckon they'll stop letting people in by 6pm such will be the interest (I saw ki g Gizzard lizard there are a few weeks ago and it was super packed - there'll be even more people for this gig)

Oof, Amy and co gonna tear up that space, what a great gig!

    Welcome, CJ!

While many have noted some areas for development (decision-making/disposals) (and I agree), he is not alone there! I think the whole team should be working very hard on their skills and decision-making in the offseason.

That said, what CJ does have is speed, dare, x-factor and will make a lot of fans quickly. The rest can be improved in time.

We can build with guys like CJ.

Nah.... The '21 flag was sublime, especially the part after Bontempelli's victory goal. There is no entitlement to follow-up premierships, just ask StKilda. We are living in times where AFL head office are trying to force-feed a flag into franchise rugby states. At least there is the fig-leaf of compensation, not like the old days when Barassi, Alves, Wells, Keenan etc could just walk out the door.

I think I might not have been entirely clear, but I agree :-)

The point I was trying to make, was that after all the years we waited, as amazing as the win was (the whole year, and finals included - and it will live in my mind forever), it's hilarious that it was played and won away from our home - plus all those other things I mentioned. I am not sure of any other team in history who have lost their 2 pillars not too long after a GF win. Think Bont and Libba being traded by 2020. Anyway, I thought it was funny (dark sense of humour).

Same with Oliver, but we had Goodwin in self-preservation mode and President who lacked foresight. Not too mention a divided board that didn't help.

A perfect storm that pretty much could only happen to us.

A drought-breaking premiership we couldn't see (in person) because of a....once in a lifetime pandemic.

Two generational talents pi**ed away because of a perfect storm of player behaviour/a self-preservation coach/broken and spineless board/gutter rat media who don't give the same scrutiny to other clubs, life-threatening injury and perhaps in the background some family issues.

Loss of guys like Mac due to the AFL hilariously changing the rules, then changing them back.

Norm Smith's curse lives on, flag or not!!
