Collingwood - One trick pony
Don’t judge me, but I follow the /AFL sub on Reddit pretty regularly. I’ve found it’s a great way to gauge the general mood of other clubs, and it seems to be a lot less Boofhead-oriented than Big Footy and the like. Ed’s story is blowing up right now over there, and it’s interesting to note that a lot of people - including many Collingwood supporters - are saying how much they love the banter.

Collingwood - One trick pony
Well, let’s just hope that Ed isn’t eating words-on-toast for breakfast this Saturday.

Demonstone's and Flaubert's English Grammar for Demonlanders 101
I’d agree with all of that except the last sentence. It’s not a Boomer Vs Millennial thing, it’s simply Ideology Vs Ideology. Plenty of Boomers hold the views of one side or the other. Perhaps it’s not quite as divided in the Millennial camp, but to suggest all of them have a shared set of beliefs and ethics is a stretch. Plus what about us Gen X-ers?!

Indeed it is. Another word in that sentence is “sentence”.

CHANGES: Rd 21 vs Collingwood
Yeah, I’m not shocked by the poll’s results for those reasons exactly. But seeing it laid bare like that, it’s very clear that tomorrow night is our chance to shake one of our last remaining hoodoos, and considerably skew the psychological landscape of these finals. A loss will be more damaging than usual.

CHANGES: Rd 21 vs Collingwood
Just saw stumbled across this poll. We need to smash Collingwood tomorrow night. Not scrape in. Not win “convincingly” or even “comfortably”. We need to SMASH them. Even with a GF under our belt, I feel we still have seriously unfinished business with respect to the Pies (no actual respect intended). Their supporters simply don’t rate us, and they have their reasons. This needs to change tomorrow night. Let’s go, Demons.

Ha! Fair point. Bad example!

I see. So what is the term for a word such as “woke”? Where a word is commonly-understood to be “incorrect”, but forges on regardless to become part of the lexicon? Is that just another malapropism? Seems like such a thing deserves it’s own term.

Isn’t a malapropism a knowingly-incorrect usage of a word or term (as opposed to an ignorant one)? Or are you saying that there’s nothing “knowing” about it?

Awful, but could it be considered a malapropism rather than poor grammar?

A lot of learnings in this thread.

Eddie Betts opens up on the weird camp
It’s not often an entire team embarrasses themselves like this. It will be a very handy weapon for all other teams when it comes to future on-field taunts.

Eddie Betts opens up on the weird camp
Meanwhile “Tex” from Broken Hill writes… “The camp that we went on as a footy club, personally I found one of the most beneficial and rewarding camps I've ever been on as an individual. "And I encourage any of my mates or family members to do the same thing” - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (that’s a real quote)

That poster just admitted they were trolling. 😒 Edit: Soz, this has been mentioned already.

CHANGES: Rd 21 vs Collingwood
Look, I’d just gotten home from a fun night out at the Forum, and was lacking the clarity to notice what havoc autocorrect was wreaking.

CHANGES: Rd 21 vs Collingwood
Despite him constantly reminding me of one of those infallible dudes out the front of a tyre centre, I still get weirdly thrown-off knowing he’s on the ground. I hope you’re right.

Farewell Sam Weideman
I’ll never forget the organiser of a very big Victorian music festival (which is still going) describing them as “Jive Bunny with a Mooks endorsement” after watching their set.

Farewell Sam Weideman
I don’t mean to start a war, but this version is not as good as Them’s. comparing Graham Bonnet’s voice to Van Morrison’s is not going to end well for Graham. I will probably be enjoying some kind of jazz-cigarette this evening, and will be willing to write some kind of pointless thesis on the whole matter soon afterwards , if requested. 😉

POSTGAME: Rd 20 vs Fremantle
“I’d like to see Melbourne to do this performance for…..” Just the grammar alone is enough to make me steam.

POSTGAME: Rd 20 vs Fremantle
Really? I dunno, that's a bit unprofessional. But whatever works, I guess.

Farewell Sam Weideman
Sorry Sam, we’ll get back to you in a moment…. For my money, the best version was by Them.

That’s a Bob Dylan song!

Farewell Sam Weideman
I’m possibly being a bit over-dramatic here, but I think he got some serious yips after the June ‘19 missed kick after the siren. If you recall, for some reason the cameras were in the Demons rooms, focusing on Sam who was literally in tears (it was a pretty rank thing to broadcast imo). I think something got to him that night that he hasn’t been able to shake.

Farewell Luke Jackson
Oh sure, just thought you’d be interested if you’d missed it.

There’s a whole other thread about this.
