insanity, we are virtually zero chance of playing finals. We will win on Sat and everyone will get excited and then we be gutted 3 weeks after that. mostly likely we will be 3-9 at the bye
I reckon we will turn things around and get to around 10 wins and that will be a good achievement but there is no coming back from 1-5 with 10 players out injured and 4-5 in the 22 carrying injuries.
We ended up top 4 last year, we are 2 games out of the 8 after round 7 and right now it’s a very even competition. Surely virtually zero chance is a tad over the top. (Note - disregard this statement after we lose to Gold Coast)

GC at full strength aside from Rory Thompson who’s out for the year. We usually play them when they’ve got half a team out.
A few per cent off from last week and we probably lose this one.
Not quite full strength, May is out. Apparently injured...

2 games out of the 8 - 7 rounds in. Definitely a chance

Keilty - deserves another game

A shame we didn’t get some percentage against those spuds

The difference in skill level is actually quite embarrassing

Only with reference, like most to our one dimensional midfield and lack of small forwards.
Coaching panel has concerned me for some time.
Fair call. Hopefully players and coaching staff can respond, along with some smart recruiting

Out of interest - did you post a similar comment at the end of last year?

Thanks for the obvious. Relevance?
Relevance is we are on the bottom and need to consider change. Some of our best kicks play in defence and maybe it’s worth them distributing to the forwards - Salem is the best example. We generally win contested footy and inside 50s, but rarely do we have quality delivery into the forward line. It was just a thought

Melksham played some time in the midfield on Wednesday, and looked ok early on. By quarter time I thought he was doing well. Faded like the rest of the team
Unfortunately, Salem and Fritter are needed in the backline to distribute. Lewis, Hibbert, Frost and Hunt cannot be trusted to kick the ball with any degree of reliability. Lewis spends most of his time on hands and knees
Unfortunately we are bottom of the ladder.

Thanks for proving my point
Name one of our mids with A grade foot skills, partic inside 50 delivery? Oliver comes closest, but no cigar. Salem and Fritter are playing back. The rest are average to poor. What hope do our forwards have?
Cognilio and Rowell/Anderson/Young would be a massive improvement going inside 50
Patton can't get on the park, would command $800k pa and cost a 1st round pick in trade. But sure, I'll go with your call.
FMD...
Unrelated to this topic but that gets me thinking, why don’t we try a few of our best ball users to distribute to the forwards - Fritsch, Salem, Melksham etc. Currently it’s painful watching some of forwards leading and it goes directly to an out of position opposition player

Crowded with oppo players!!! Most disposals being 2 Tigers defenders mainly winning ball by themselves.
Agree. So where are our spare players?
-
Our forward line is always crowded and then we keep bombing it in. Surely it would be a good start to address this.

was commenting on your contention that we could be considered contenders not on whether we will beat the Saints.
Actually I believe we should win today but we need an enormous amount more before we can be considered potential finalists let alone contenders.
Remind me again who are the clear favourites at this time of the year

22 games actually and we did lose three straight including by around 90 points to one of them.Hardly contender material
Good call, your right, the saints are awesome

not sure anyone considers ourselves as contenders based on the last five weeks
23 games in a season - I thought only the media wrote of teams at the start of the year, not supporters.

Basically if we can’t beat these hacks we don’t deserve to consider ourselves as contenders

Ah that’s better, can watch the footy shows again...

I am so proud of the boys tonight. I've almost got a tear in my eye. We've been smashed from pillar to post these last three weeks, some of it warranted, some of it over the top, and when the Swans got 20 odd points up you could argue that we were in big, big trouble.
But we didn't panic. We went back to playing the Melbourne way. We hassled. We tackled. And by God we took our chances. This was a modern Melbourne performance and you could almost sense, when we got up, that we weren't going to give it up.
The one person I want to single out is Nathan Jones. Under the pump from all and sundry, he steps up to kick three crucial, captain's goals to help us win this game of footy. How bloody good is it? Right the man off at your peril.
I also thought Marty Hore, another to cop it on here, really stood up down back, particularly early. Also to Frosty who did a pretty good job on Buddy!
But stuff it. How good is it, everyone? I love this club. We have won this game when, with the injuries and the history against the Swans, we had no right to win it. As I said earlier, it's shades of the '98 game over in Perth.
Kudos to the coaches, players and everyone else involved for lifting and keeping our season well and truly alive.
And I'm proud that I never lost the faith! DEMONS!
Great post and thanks for keeping the faith. Always enjoy your rational well thought out views.

One positive as a Melbourne supporter is that we are very well conditioned to disappointment

What a shame that Rance and potentially Riewoldt are out. You always want the best teams to have their best players. Hahahahahaha

Just want brutal contested footy. Go demons!
