If Garry had "stolen" a mates wife away i would agree with you

He didn't..The relationship was done and dusted

Maybe just maybe Brownless is an immature little man..although you won't hear that spoken of in Football circles....

Lets agree to disagree. I wish Gary a healthy life but would prefer not to hear from him on my preferred radio station

How do we know they haven't spoken and made their peace? and to be honest, it has stuff all to do with any of us. This is between Garry, Billy and his ex-wife and the families involved. I still have no idea why a single party has been painted to be the bad guy in all of this, there are clearly more than one party involved in this whole saga, and no indication of a lack of consent, so blame should be proportionate also.

Garry and Billy's relationship is likely damaged beyond repair and won't ever be the same, caused a lot of pain for all of the people involved, and has been magnified to the extreme by the media who can't get enough of this!

Let it be! Glad he is back calling the football in 2017.

Paraphrasing here but Billy said recently they hadn't spoken and that he would take a call to chat and would consider working with him after that. If they haven't spoken then there can't have been an apology. Suspect Gary is still up to no good

Gary's private behaviour is relevant as he consistently passes judgement on the private behaviour of other footballs on shows like footy classified.

Also, you need to be a personality and / or have credibility about footy subject matter to be in footy media performer - otherwise I could do it. If you become unpopular through your actions then there is a cost to your brand when he comes back on air seeking a viewing audience that will fund the advertising that will fill the coffers of the station that will pay him his wage. So it does matter that he did what he did in his 'private' life

You are very new to Demonland, Demons1858, and you still have a shred of care and concern for another team. Most commendable, but don't waste any concern for the likes of North Melbourne. This is a team which has had the dees in a death grip for what seems like an eternity. If we beat the kangas by 20 goals next time we meet and their midfield has a collective 20 possessions for the game, I for one will be celebrating like there's no tomorrow. And if I'm any judge, so will everybody else in this madhouse called demonland.

Still reminisce about the day we beat them in Vancouver

Why does Garry have to apologize?

    The previous relationship was over

When you hurt and devastate your friends you should apologise. He met his wife through their friendship no some random meeting

Very succinct. Agree entirely. Nothing he says has any substance any more.

I stopped listening to his footy judgement after the Neeld appointment.

Also agree his base has eroded on the integrity front.

Will be interesting to see if any call back listens take him to task.

Call me cynical, but the coincidence was that Garry announced his depression right on-cue (when Bill found his slippers under the bed).  And before those sanctimonious start coming to the defense of the depressed, just make sure you stood up for the hammering Mitch Clark got on here.

Garry once had the aura and reputation of a great leader and sharp footy brain.  I think the "great leader" remains somewhat, but his credibility as a sharp footy brain with authority and integrity has surely eroded.  This guy was instrumental in the worst coaching appointment in living memory  Full stop.  Hindsight is an excuse.  Smart people knew Neeldy's appoint was a joke at the time.  On Footy Classified, Garry has often commented on the integrity of footballers, and "taking ownership for your actions" or words to that effect.  His base is eroded.  He can comment, but with eroding authority.

But hey.  As long as he picks Melbourne in the tips, that's all that most of us care about.

If I watch FC, it will be for Lloyd (on-field) and Caro (off-field).   Maybe I might watch the 'closing cook' as long as he finally looks at himself.

  7. Not really ready to move on from what Gary did given he hasn't spoken to Bill and presumably has not apologised privately or publicly but is now well enough to do the promos for the new show. Wonder whether the relationship has continued is part of the reason

Other than Huddo (who is a little mundane) the rest of the crew I'm happy with. Sam McClure is going to go places and seems to have access to regular inside info

  8. Rockliff would give us the immediate elite talent we need and help us make a step change towards a finals assault. He will also allow us to hedge our bets on the young talent we have that have potential but have not yet reached elite talent. He will put his head down and bum up in 2017 to set up for his next contract and likely departure from Bris.

Daniel Menzel would be handy given its not easy to recruit for his type. Assuming his knees show some durability in 2017. A;though not many leave Geelong on their own terms.

Don't want to go near Martin.

There would be an auction to get Fyffe and don't want to pay the likely fee to get his services given he has been injured early in his career and now more recently. Would take Rockliff as value for money. Granted Fyffe when fit and playing at his best is a better player

I think there is a very good reason for our midfield being ranked so low.  They say they are basing it on numbers over two years.  That would basically give us Vince and Jones who have played those two years at a high level and Viney at maybe a year and a half.  Who else is going to rate a mention over a two year period?  Petracca had a few brief stints, but his stats are nothing special.  Brayshaw spent almost the entire season injured this year.  Tyson had a shocking time in 2015.  Oliver is brand new and has only played a handful of games.  Melksham was suspended.

Over the sample period, our midfield as it is currently listed has done virtually nothing.  Half of them haven't even played both years.  Of the guys who have, we already know that they aren't the absolute elite of the competition, so why get worked up?  What we have are a group of hard-working senior mids who fight for every ball and a crop of youngsters who show every sign of being future stars but haven't produced it yet at AFL level.  I don't think the analysis is that unfair when you actually look at the criteria and who we currently have on our list.

The stats are the to create debate and banter which we all enjoy but it's all to do with the methodology. Given its based on the last 2 years - its no big deal. Vince didn't play entirely in the midfield this year either and Viney had his break out year this year. Very concerned for North Melb though given their midfield is a little more mature and lost harvey and wells

  10. He was the most tenacious key forward I have ever seen (when he was fit) and an absolute team players. Very good reader of the game and with limited stats he was able to have an influence on the game despite his basic skill level. His body has let him down which would be hard for him to accept given he is still a young man. Really enjoyed watching him play, All the best Chris, you gave your all, with a bit of luck things could have been different

May I note that the highlighted point is inaccurate.  Not sure if you heard Goodwin's interview last week or using previous posts which selectively quoted Goodwin. While Goodwin did say the end of the year had arrived and it was time for talks to commence which the club and Jesse's management would now do, he went on to say that he was comfortable if the contract was not signed for a few weeks, months or even the middle of next year.  So I don't know how you can say the negotiations that were promised didn't happen nor that there was media pressure on anyone.  Goodwin's gave a simple answer to a simple question on Jesse's contract status.   Now everyone in the media and on Demonland is speculating.

Hey Lucifer, thanks for taking an interest in my post. What did you think about the essence or theme of the post? Agree or disagree?

Sorry if I have misquoted an aspect of Goodwin comments (it was from the media interview he did to announce his formal appointment with Bartlett by his side where he doesn't talk about 'weeks, month, mid year etc" not sure were that came from).

Nonetheless, the essence of my statements are intact I believe. He agreed to commence negotiation in a years time assuming MFC were improved and that's not going to happen soon if he is stating though mgmt that he is torn about returning to WA. To commence negotiations he needs to tell the club he's prepared to live in Melbourne if the right contact is in place, then MFC can go about putting the figires together to present to him. At the moment there can be no negotiations just Jessie buying more time

    Like your post 1858.

History tells us players who indicate whey want to stay with a club only to put contract talks on hold rarely stay. So yep all indications point towards him leaving.

in regards to trading him this year or next year if he comes out now and says I want to go trading him this year might actually get us a better deal.  Freo have pick 3.

Also trading him now would mean we don't have a media circus next year.

Flamingdees, your point on trading is valid.

It's a fine balance between potentially getting the best picks this year and there not being many a-grade players on the market vs potentially getting slightly lesser picks next year but there will likely be more a-grade talent available that hasn't yet committed.

  13. Hurts to say but he is GONE - review facts (not opinions or perceptions) below.

    Facts::

    • 1 yr ago, Freo who were seen as the likely destination club, were flying and looking to add a key forward to their line up to get that elusive flag
    • 1 yr ago, MFC had shown improvement under Roos but still had signficant offensive issues and still looked a few years away from contending in finals
    • 1 yr ago, we were told, neogitations were postponed for 1 yr to see how the MFC was performing and for Jessie to concentrate of footy and take heat out of debate
    • This year, Freo have performed poorly and are set for a significant rebuild or reset. West coast had another 'finals' year and have publicly stated they want Jessie
    • This year, MFC have improved significantly by honing its offensive game
    • This year, Goodwin stated recently that it was now the end of the year and talks should therefore commence with Jessie as promised. Media pressure subsequently mounted on Jessie, and we were told, negotiations won't commence for some time and Jessie was struggling between improving mfc and returning to WA

So in summary, promised improvement in MFC happened, negotiations that were promised didn't happen, playing at Freo is no longer an attractive option, West Coast have emerged as an interested party and played in another finals series. Most of the points for Jessie staying are mostly based on hope (I still do this from time to time but are reminded of Scully's final year).

Put yourself in Jessie's shoes and assume he is going for a moment..He has a contract so will stick to it unless MFC approach him. Freo looked like his preferred option but he doesn't want to be involved in another team rebuild. So by waiting another year, his value will build in the market place and he can assess whether Freo will bounce back or whether West coast become a better option.

For the MFC, trading for Jessie now would be pointless as the best players that are interested in a move have already decided their clubs. So we can't really trade for any high quality players this year only picks (and we can always trade for picks next year anyway). So its in our interest for Jessie to stay with us this year, while we work with player mgrs to pick up some a-grade talent next year with the picks we get for Jessie and gain slightly more mature talent before finals footy
