What we know from the small sample of last week is that Brisbane were able to get on top of the Saints in clearances and contested ball so that keeps them in the game, though this was partly due to the Saints essentially having no midfield which is a problem we don’t have. Saints still ran out reasonably comfortable winners despite this.
As the season rolls on it will prove to be a more even competition this year than last. Brisbane will be no exception to that. But if we’re serious at all this season we need to win this one. Brisbane will be competitive and their first home game adds additional X factor, but they are ultimately a developing side with a coach entering his second season. Dropping these games is something we simply can’t afford to do again this year.
Dees for the win. A close margin wouldn’t shock me. A loss definitely would.
FWIW they lost 2/3 of their home games last year so I doubt that will be a major advantage to them.

Was more concerned about this game before yesterday, St Kilda are a disgrace and a good Lions performance agains that outfit proves nothing more than St Kilda are bottom 6 material too.

Transport both teams to Van Diemens Land one way. This is an abortion of a game.

Maybe the pre-season music torture worked after all.

Who’s next I wonder

Honestly wish the club would minimise media contact. Seems every time a senior player makes a public statement we singularly fail to back it up in our next game

Lack of defensive pressure cost us. Too few players chipped in when needed

It's football. Your team disappointing you comes with the territory. Every single team, even whichever team wins the flag, will have moments in the season where they suffer massive disappointment.
And I would have thought this loss, for a Melbourne supporter who got to enjoy the early half of the Bailey era and the entire Neeld era, this one was a pretty moderate pain to endure compared to the past. Despite the overwhelming disappointment, I really enjoyed the actual game of footy.
That’s true about the Neeld era but there are now expectations and that inflates the disappointment of losses like yesterday. It’s a good thing but sure didn’t feel like that last night

In - Paul Roos
Out - Simon Goodwin

lol take your meds Chris. I have looked after more disabled people than you and Hardtack combined during my nursing career. You are lashing out after a loss like other "tards do.
Get over yourself nuffer.
If that’s how you refer to your patients you chose the wrong profession

If we had won today the narrative would be a gutsy come from behind win, instead we’re the chokers who ballsed up a 20m direct shot to win. That’s what really hurts

Sydney are such a clean team, never fumble and never run over the ball.
Will win the flag.
That’s a big call. West Coast seriously brought it up to them, and they’re no great shakes. If Franklin gets injured the Swans could be in trouble

Another year of this [censored].

3rd quarter means nothing if we don’t get the effort backed up for the final quarter. Excuses time is over

That’s real leadership there.

We were a decent defensive team under Roos but have regressed on that front under Goodwin. Lever can [censored] off back to Adelaide he’s as much use as [censored] on a boar

Typical MFC.

Ffs wake up Dees. We’re smashing them at the clearances but that matters sfa when they can waltz it in and score. Defence hasn’t improved on this evidence

Dogs being absolutely mauled at half time, and GWS looking scary.

Got a sick feeling of anticipation, I’m veering from faith in the group to full blown MFCSS. Viney out worries me greatly

Def bunch of downhill skiers.
Yep they’re playing a re-building team without a functioning forward line at their home ground. Don’t expect that to stop the commentators wetting themselves over the new recruits.

Port not looking great shakes either tbh.

Kicked the first goal of the match. Stranger than I though it would be to see him in Port colours actually

Smash Geelong on Sunday and this kind of thing will stop pretty quickly.
Round 2 Non MFC games

Essendons talls are seriously overrated. Daniher barely touched the ball against an inexperienced direct opponent who’s been injured for two years and Stringer was practically unsighted. They won’t make an impact if they make the 8.
