Why bring up Carey, he'd have been far less effective in todays game with zone defences. Still a wonderful player, but not the match winner that single handedly wins premierships. A solid 60-80 a year goalkicker is very valuable, but still equal to an elite A grade midfielder, not superior.

We don't even know if Hogan will be the best forward, just like we don't know if Fyfe will remain injury free and return to his best. One thing we do know is Fyfe was the best player in the league a year ago. Best forward v Midfield Buddy Franklin or Patrick Dangerfield ? Josh Kennedy or Josh Kennedy?

A choice between Fyfe or Hogan is in the very least, a pretty nice situation to be in. Here's hoping it comes to one or the other.

Was Hogan ever a natural goalkicker/kicker of the ball? I recall him being far more accurate than this year, but it wouldn't surprise me if he was another one of those athletic kids that outgrew everyone and was recruited so high because he of his great marking and CHF attributes, and not because he could kick perfectly? I don't think it would be so big a loss if the kid spends the next 5 years goofily trying to kick straight at another club? If he could kick like Jack Watts he'd be worth throwing a massive deal in front of.

Well that's the long term fix, but we'd still be ahead on trading next years first round, if the universe implodes in 2018. We can win the premiership next year. Can we all repeat that as a mantra? It wouldn't hurt to believe.

Continuing in the absurd direction: If you never stop using your future 1st and 2nd round pick, won't you always be ahead? Would it be such a travesty to have him mentor Ben Kennedy and any other crumbing forwards or half forwards that can push into the midfield, to teach them a good off-field work ethic for one year? Or do we want BK or JKH to drift off and be delisted in 2 years? I think he can have a net-positive impact on the fringe players around him irrespective of whether his output is 80-90% of what it is this year. 80-90% would still put him in the 22.

Off topic, but I'm so glad we got the signature of Tom and Oscar McDonald, It has significantly taken the pressure off this years trade week and I think it perhaps shows which was Roosy's number 1 re-signing priority. With the mids and defence nailed down for the future, it makes the forward situation less dire and gives us time.
