Dawes has been more valuable to us than Broomhead. Therefore we're ahead. Simple.
-
That's a huge IF and a big assumption he gets back on the park. And if either of the above happens then neither of us should do anything - we have no idea how the trades are going to pan out and doing so is short sighted. Howe may be an average player for the Pies while Kennedy kicks on and becomes an important player in our 22.... or vice versa. We won't know for a few years yet. Alright, so it wasn't part of a 'larger trade', but you get my drift. Even if you take that out we are still ahead in that trade.
-
Come on Ralphy, you're better than this. We always had interest in Dawes during that trade period, and doing the Hogan trade early allowed us to get that Pick 20 in return, which we packaged with 47 to get Dawes. So, yes, it had something to do with that trade.
-
We've come out either ahead or on par in those trades. Clark can't even get on the park and the picks we traded for Dawes have amounted to nothing for the other clubs. Don't even start on Melksham as we won't know for a few years if we paid the right amount or if it was overs. I'd rather us be easy to trade with so we can get what we need. We've never really been bent over at trade time so I have no idea why people are worried.
-
We were lucky to get anything for Clark. After retiring and then backsliding 6 months later we were able to at least get a player who, admittedly, didn't have much of a year but is much better than nothing. I fail to see how that's being rolled over. The Dawes trade was also part of a larger trade that landed us Hogan. And what we did trade for Dawes, pick 20 (Tim Broomhead) and Pick 47 (on traded to Norf who drafted Mitchell Wilkins), have done very little in 3 years. Dawes hasn't lived up to the expectations but he has done more than what we traded for him. I'm still yet to see this 'rolled over' business you're talking about.

Rubbish? When was the last time we were rolled over in a trade? In depth analysis is welcome.

He's an alias. Someone on the board is having some fun.

I think, in that deal, we get Pick 26 and 28 at the least. We get a third rounder as well from somewhere, possibly Port going by the notion that they trade 2 picks for him, and we also end up with Kennedy. I think the bonus for us is that we have 2 second rounders to use, either in other trades or in the draft to go with Pick 6. We still have Bugg on our radar, although I'd assume we go with a third rounder there, and there may be other things that pop up next week.
-
It sounds like the Crows give up Pick 32 for Seedsman, which will in turn end up back at Port. The article then says we will get two picks for Toumpas, so I'm not sure if that means they trade their second and third rounder for him. The Pies get Howe and we get Kennedy... but, to me, that's not a fair swap at all, so possibly the Pies give us a second rounder as well. I'm only speculating though. If we traded Howe and Toumpas and ended up with Kennedy and 3 second round picks then I could live with that, bit it may not work out that way.

Didn't know where else to put this, so I'll put it here - looks like that 4 team deal between us, Port, the Pies and Adelaide is still moving ahead. The deal seems a little confusing but it sounds like we would lose Howe and Toumpas and gain two second rounders and Ben Kennedy... if that's what happens. "PORT Adelaide is in a four-club negotiation over a mega deal that would not only deliver Demon Jimmy Toumpas to Alberton but also arm the club ahead of further negotiations for the Gold Coast’s Charlie Dixon. Discussions are continuing over a complex deal which is set to deliver Toumpas to Port, Ben Kennedy from Collingwood to Melbourne, Jeremy Howe from Melbourne to Collingwood and Paul Seedsman from Collingwood to Adelaide. The Crows are understood to have offered pick 32 for Seedsman, and that pick is a key to the negotiations. It is likely to be passed on to Port, which would give up two draft picks for Toumpas and No. 32 and then be in a position to continue its haggling with the Suns over Dixon. The Power has already put pick No. 10 on the table for Dixon, but the Gold Coast’s stance is that it needs something else to bring to the party The deal, which still hinges on some tweaking to come off, would involve several exchanges of second and third round selections between the club so that all four clubs are satisfied that they have improved their position from the transactions

No chance. The Blues won't give that up unless we give them an unbelievable deal... which we would be silly to do.
-
I agree in principle, but their first rounder for both years is basically on it's way to GWS for Treloar. So that doesn't leave us much wiggle room in getting something good in return for Howe unless we can pry one of their players loose.
-
Possibly. Has he done more across 100 games than Melksham has? You could easily argue that he hasn't. He's taken plenty of great grabs and kicked a few goals... but he's done little else. I have a feeling most Melbourne supporters will initially be disappointed with what we get for him in terms of a trade, but I think in the long run we'll come out looking just fine.
-
I think we can rule out that sort of stuff. Howe wants to go to the Pies, and I believe the only other club with serious interest now is GC, who we are of course happy to deal with. The other clubs won't factor in to it like you've outlined above. I have no idea what your fascination is with mediocre fringe players are though mate. Todd Elton? You must be seriously disappointed Daniel Currie is off to GC instead of us for a packet of crisps.
-
Let's say for a second Howe is worth a first rounder on his own - how do we get it? The Pies have none as they try and get both Treloar and Aish. If the suggested four way deal comes in to play then Port are out as well with their picks tied up in a potential deal for Dixon, while I don't see us getting the Crows pick either as it doesn't seem as though, at this point, there is a whole lot going in their direction. I'm not saying he isn't worth a late first rounder on his own, it's just that we face a battle to be able to get one.
-
You're a waste of space. Ignore list for you.
-
That's not what I said. Other clubs may have enquired, or shown interest, but clearly we were his club of choice due to his relationship with Goodwin and McCartney.

Thought this was interesting from the HUN today. I reckon his manager has done him a disservice: "Reports earlier in the year that he was demanding $650,000 a year were dismissed by his manager Ben Niall, but the Demons still believed Niall floated that amount. To make it worse, Howe said he wanted to stay; Niall said his client was open to offers, which angered the Demons; and offers put to Howe by the Demons eventually were withdrawn. In the end, for whatever reason, the Demons didn’t want to keep him."
-
Just out of curiosity, outside of Dangerfield and Treloar, who were these quality 21+ year old players we were going to land?
-
No, but I'm sure the journo's will concoct some unbelievable trade deals to keep us buying the papers.
-
Childish. But then your over the top posts during this trade period should mean your above one comes as no surprise. You aren't the only one but the amount of people on here who can't see past their noses at this time of the year is astounding. No one automatically wins or loses a trade. When 3-4 years have passed then you can take a good look at it, but to get all worried about now is just silly. And besides, who knows what we have planned? We might land Kennedy and two second rounders, and we have some good plans in place for those picks. We know that teams are keen to get a GWS pick in the Top 10, and we may well and truly have an eye on that with further plans in place for 2 picks inside the Top 10. So before you get childish about the situation you should think before you post. You'll do yourself a huge favour.
-
Take your own advice. While this may be in the works we have no idea of the picks involved or what will actually go down. So before you have a mini meltdown just take it easy until it's done.
-
We hold more than that. Toumpas apparently wants out as well and, if the Dixon deal goes through as PA want, they'll hand over their second rounder for him. That's just one example. I don't know why there is this belief that there was no other demand for Melksham - how do you Einstein's know that? Were you all behind the scenes doing the negotiating? Is someone his manager's brother?
-
The problem for some posters is that they either believe that A graders or instant game changers grow on trees, or clubs are willing to part with them easily. Neither is true. Outside of Danger and, to a lesser extent Treloar, none of those types are truly out there on the market. But people are sucked in to this idea that we have to land a gun in this trade period or else a sinkhole will swallow the team up and we will disappear from existence. The club is doing exactly what they should be - while they test the market they are bringing in experience and talent that will add to our list. They aren't A graders or game changers but they improve our depth and our ability to compete on a consistent basis. Everyone knows that when we did compete for 4 quarters we looked like a damn good side. If we do that more often then there is no reason why we can't add to our win tally in 2016. But no, unless the next coming of GAJ falls in our lap then we all have to be depressed. Give me a break.
