Brendan McCartney & Cooney/Bulldogs situation
Regarded as one of the game’s best development coaches, McCartney joined Melbourne in February 2015, after coaching the Western Bulldogs from 2012-14. He was initially appointed development and strategy coach, but in September 2016 was named player/coach performance manager in line with Simon Goodwin’s elevation to senior coach. The role oversees the development of Melbourne’s coaches, along with driving the performance of the club’s player group. McCartney continues to work closely in player development with Matthew Egan. McCartney, who is one of a handful of people to have coached at the highest level without playing a VFL/AFL match, has an outstanding coaching background in various forms of the game. For the record, his father Graham McCartney played one match for Richmond in 1957. Originally a player with Newtown/Chilwell in the Geelong Football League, McCartney later coached Ocean Grove to four successive premierships from 1994-97. He then became Richmond’s assistant and development coach from 1998-99 under former coach Jeff Gieschen. From 2000-10, he was an assistant coach throughout Mark Thompson’s entire tenure at Geelong. McCartney played a pivotal role in Geelong’s two premierships in 2007 and 2009, and his legacy continued into the club’s 2011 flag. In 2010, McCartney was named AFLCA’s assistant coach of the year. He joined Essendon for one season under senior coach James Hird – the same time Thompson returned to the Bombers in a coaching capacity. At the end of the 2011 season, McCartney was named coach of the Bulldogs. He coached the Dogs for three seasons, before resigning. McCartney’s time at the Bulldogs was acknowledged by many after it won the 2016 premiership. McCartney’s experience and knowledge has already proven to be invaluable at Melbourne and he remains an integral part of Goodwin’s coaching panel.

Lol don't even get me started on Jones. Did I read during the week that Jones has been the biggest slider in the AFL player rankings this year? Also, my post was part of a running joke, I do enjoy a bit of humour - rare around these parts.

Did you see his one handed pick up and evasive glide out of trouble last week?

Brendan McCartney & Cooney/Bulldogs situation
I think clubs pump up their own assistants if they're looking to coach. Cats - McCartney, Collingwood - Neeld, Watters, Richardson etc. Cooney does seem like a larrikin so would believe that for sure. Always two sides to every story.

Brendan McCartney & Cooney/Bulldogs situation
https://www.sen.com.au/news/2018/08/05/cooney-explains-fractured-relationship-with-bulldogs-coach-mccartney/ McCartney has always had the Dogs issues hang over his head, here is just one side. I thought the issues he had were just with the old guys, but sounds like it was the kids as well. “By the end, he didn’t connect with the younger players. “There were times at the club where younger players didn’t want to come to training and they were confining us and talking about their relationship and everything that was going on at the football club. “I know at one stage there was a group of parents who sat down with Simon Garlick and the board to express their concerns about what was happening, because their kids were saying they didn’t want to go to training. “That’s where the warning lights were flashing loud and clear for me.”

The stats were off footywire, for and against. Doesn’t mean I think they’re negative, just that they’re the opposite. It’s not my opinion. Damn, I was going to treat myself with a beer too

Stats-file 2018
Have spent a lot of time going over our stats this week, Goodwin and King are right, we are so close it's not funny. Wins v Cats x 2, Port and STK and you know where we'd be sitting. Defence is an issue with Lever out and now Hibberd, but if we can find a way to just get it happening we can win it this year, you don't get much better opportunities. OK, I'll stop making you feel miserable @Demonland here are some positive stats for you, exciting times ahead, just need it to "click" Ranked 3rd in Handballs Per Game Ranked 2nd in Disposals Per Game Ranked 1st in Points Per Game Ranked 3rd in Tackles Per Game Ranked 1st in Hitouts Per Game Ranked 1st in Inside 50s Per Game Ranked 1st in Goal Assists Per Game Ranked 3rd in Clearances Per Game Ranked 3rd in Clangers Per Game Ranked 1st in least Opponent Kicks Per Game Ranked 2nd in least Opponent Marks Per Game Ranked 4th in least Opponent Hitouts Per Game Ranked 2nd in least Opponent Inside 50s Per Game Ranked 5th in Team to Opponent Handballs Per Game Diff. Daisy: AFLW's a Gimmicky Tournament
He's a stain on our once great game, I'm surprised the media don't give him hell a lot more often. Has destroyed everything

Daisy: AFLW's a Gimmicky Tournament
Good on Daisy, a disgrace once again by the Gil circus. Jeez AFL wide has gone backwards since his inception, needs to go. But at least he saw 1m members. Releasing the cream before the bad news. Snake oil salesman.

Losing Jack Viney
Gawn is our best leader and I didnt mention Tyson, I don't think he's a massive loss either. We'll agree to disagree on this one, enjoy your day.
-
Losing Jack Viney
While it's sad, he is coverable, he's no superstar. The only thing we can't replace is his will to win. I'm not too concerned with losing Viney and it shouldn't hinder our chances too much. Hibberd and Melksham is of more concern to our structure IMO.

VALE JARROD LYLE
My day is done after hearing that, so bloody sad. Here we are crapping on about the little things in footy, then you have a true blue gentle aussie about to leave his kids behind. Have met him once, lovely bloke. Catch yas tomorrow.

Run home to Finals - 2018
I want Collinwood to win and do it convincingly, I don't want the Swans to gain any confidence out of a spirited win. Let them die slowly.
