Watching it on Telly was the first big game for a long time where the crowd sounded definitely pro us. It actually sounded like there were hardly any cats supporters. Sounded great. Would like to know the breakdown of the 52 k. If I had to guess from the noise and crowd shots Id wager Dee's fans 30 odd. But it's a figure I'm pulling out of .. Too far for cats supporters to drive quite possibly. But great effort to all you who attended. Thanks.

Billings was less than ok for me but he had some patches of good play before he was subbed off. Just not enough and I feel like he's been like that for a few games now. He'll get the benefit of the doubt though because he's had some good form early in the season and Goody doesn't often make big changes after a win. And that's a good a win as you can get. Like you I thought Woey was very good and maybe he can play further up the ground. But he won't be dropped.l just My feeling is just change Laurie with Bowey as the sub. It's too much I think to give Bowser a full game and Laurie was underwhelming in his limited game time despite his two goals v tigers. Perhaps Bowey could be subbed on for Woey to play fwd or experiment with him as a small fwd for a Cameo. I've been told by those in the know that McAdam isn't ready yet. Someone even said he was ill. I'm keen to see him play. Hunter back too would be great but who to take out for him? I feel the old adage that If it ain't broke ....is the way it will go down. Although the argument of fresh legs may hold merit. Like my usual posts I have nothing to really say. Except that this club is awesome on the way we stood up to the Cats. I know it's early and we had a couple of iffy games but I really feel that this could be our year again. WhatI wouldn't give to get to see us win a flag at the MCG and be able to watch it person. I've always said I'd be happy with just one flag before I go to that big arena in the sky ( surely God is a closeted Demons flag...I mean if one believes in that sort of thing ..He'd have a good sense of humour) but now I've discovered how good one feels.....I feel that one idea was a load of bollocks. PS. Your posts make me thirsty. I grew up in St Kilda East and was a big soft drink afficiando. Especially collecting bottles for refunds to buy the footy cards and included gum ( which was [censored]). I'm guessing by your name your of the same vintage. What a time the 70 s were for kids to grow up. All that freedom to wander the streets without fear of being abducted. I know it happened but my parents seemed oblivious to it all. Probably to0 busy eating fondue at key parties to worry where there previous children were. Some lucky kids next door had a crate of soft drinks delivered every week or so. Not your classics like coke and Fanta but some generic version I wish I could remember. They seemed so rich to me. They also were the first people on the street to have a colour tv. What a mind blower that was. Like dropping acid. I guess. I could go on forever about stuff like footy cards, Sandman cars, yo yos, soft drink, mad magazines, girly mags and 60 cent packs of Marlboros. Mind you we used to just pilfer them from our benevolent Balaclava newsagency employer. We got six bucks a week payment for our six day a week am paper round in the freezing cold so we justified as an unsaid bonus. The best memory regarding footy cards was flocking them up against the school wall to win some more. As for soft drink, creaming soda was where it was at for me. How does Holmes top the charts? Yes he was very good but he had the same number of disposals as Oliver with 31. Sure Clarry's decision making in the first half wasn't his best but his final quarter was scintillating and set up our win I reckon. So Holmes 8. Clarry 0. ???????? And again Zac Guthrie 6. Clarry 0. And surely both Lever and May were both better than Holmes. Something not quite right here.

Im guessing Verrall is possibly a future replacement for Max. I dread the day Max retires. Good to hear he's doing ok. From the sounds of it Sestan is the only other real prospect. I will follow his progress as much as one can through the summaries provided here. I really don't think we have a great deal of depth but what we do have is pretty good quality.Im hoping we will be able to find a like for like replacement for Gus asap but I'm sure that won't be easy given his skill set. And maybe a good result with the other out who I won't name so as not to antagonize anyone. I see Tommo chosen as one of our best. Poor bloke has a hard chance breaking back in. Brown picked too. I'm assuming it was young Brown which is great to see. So from our twos and injured I feel like players that we'd like to see back or a chance are or what we see as our depth... Tommo Hunter Bowey ( injured of our best) Salo ( as above) McAdam Young Brown (Maybe the other Brown if he can find form again). Maybe Fullerton. Maybe the colt. This isn't a very long list so let's hope we have a great run re injuries this year . Who have I missed?l

Tmac has surely gone back in time and become the player he was. But the other big name and player is Lever. He is back to his career best and certainly has reminded us of why we obtained him. I thought the last couple of years while being good he wasn't at his best. We certainly saw that last Saturday. He is back to matching winning form. His intercept marking his the best about. As good as All Australian Maysie. How lucky are we to have those two in the form they are in now joined by a reinvented Tmac. Getting Bowey and Salo back in there will see our backline as good as it gets. Not that it ain't already. And as for players getting back to their best, Oliver is certainly there or almost. His disposals in the first half weren' but his second half was vintage Clarry and a big part of our victory. And finally on this theme, hip hip for Langers who was right there with him. What a week where everything seems afresh again. From a stellar effort in S.A to our lions loss and flat win over the tigers to this. I so hope we put away the blues in a huge statement. To make up for their lucky win against us in last year's finals and to throw down the gauntlet to all and sundry that we are the team to watch out for. That after an unlucky straight sets finals loss we were the real contender for last year's flag. That the Gus incident was why pies won and robbed us of a genuine chance. I really want to see the blues absolutely buried. And it's not like we can't.

We play the lions, pies, docker's and power twice this season. Not a ripper of a fixture in terms of double play.

Our three horsemen should be able to shut down their tall and pretty potent forward line. If Petty and Oliver and Max play like that again and Jvr lifts a little then yea we should be quite confident. The five day break has me a little concerned given how hard we played.

Isn't he touted as being an elite user of the ball. I thought the Saints were silly in letting him go and was pleased he came to us. Other than his third quarter, I really thought his decision making was below average and his last few games were just the same. He's probably the only one that may get cut. But I doubt Goody will make any changes after a big win like that. He's not one for changing a winning combination.Maybe the sub gets changed. I sure hope Woey doesn't get dropped. I would like to see him play further up the ground. Possibly Bowey as sub to get him some game time. I would like to see Hunter back but not sure how he's tracking. It's great to see a team that beat the cats have players knocking on the door. And if Chin is injured then he's worth resting. Maybe Woey to play his role but who replaces Woeys role in the backline? Wouldn't Bowey struggle after a long break?

Love it. Lever makes so much noise directing players I don't know how he manages to focus on his own game. And yea full credit to Maysie from being the strongman at GCS to the consummate teammate he is today.

In all seriousness Brownie, for me it was one of the best games for a while. Because after our last two games it was fair to wonder where we really were as a flag chance. We certainly are a very good chance for one as a result of that win. The Cats are a scary good side with both great backlines and forward lines. Their run and carry and speed of transition is damn good. But our defenders ...the three horseman so to speak were wonderful. A proverbial wall of bronze and iron. To keep Cameron and Hawkins to zip was indeed a biblical effort. They say backlines don't win flags but I'm not sure that holds anymore. Ours must be the envy of all and it's missing two big names in Bowey and Salem. Also to see Petty go from strength to strength as the game progressed was a sight for sore eyes. In the final stages it looked like he couldn't drop a mark even if he wanted to. He was that connection at chf and the middle that we have so desperately needed. So glad Goody didn't heed the screams here to send him back to Casey . But in the end it just revealed another moment of this club to never say die. Cats went to another level in the last quarter but we went above that. At times the game wasn't pretty with its shots at goal but that was just a reflection of the pressure. One of the biggest take aways for me wasn't just our number of tackles but rather how many of them stuck. It seemed that most of our players just couldn't be shaken off. And the moments of just speed and skill like Frittas dribbler, Caleb's two steps and he's on you and Kozzies snap at goal were a reminder of the quality of some of our players. And in the final quarter we saw Oliver as who he really is. Simply the best midfielder in the competition for me. See ball get ball then hit a target. 31 disposals despite being hard done by the umpires. Finally I'd like to give a shout out to two veterans. Max who just goes to another level against the Cats and Tom McDonald who has defied all odds and looks like the great defender he was six years ago. That was probably the best h and a win since the Kardinia park comeback or when we pinched a win against the lions at the MCG. Okay maybe not a big comeback win but in the context of the season and past few games and who we played was most thrilling. Next week is another big test. But I'm sure we will go in choc full of confidence and deservingly so. Win that and we may not be top of the ladder but we would certainly be looking like the strongest contender about.
