Tom Swift - Eagles
He left at the end of a season not mid-year.
-
He didnt play yesterday!!
-
He walked in with Hogan.. I wonder what must be going through his head at the moment. I hope he is not thinking of going back to WA already.
He might need a Melbourne girlfriend to keep him here....*cough*

I question how the recruiting department could have watched Pedersen and Gillies all year and thought they were capable of being in Melbourne's or any teams best 22.
How is Cam Pedersen a better player then the discarded Stefen Martin?

You can add Dunn and Pedersen to that list
Tom Gilies also.

A Barry P special!!

Yep jamar seems soft. Knows he has no competition so doesn't jump just plays jump ball. I agree with ox.
Really though a lot of teams play young talls no better than pedo and sellar and beat us. It's a mindset and generally 22 issue which falls to the coaches.
Misso might have the fitness up but anyone who watches Melbourne train should know that the quality of training is still really bad
There is a direct link between Jamar's form drop and when he signed that big contract!!

A shocking thread!!

Both not AFL players. Why someone listened to Neil Craig in the first place and put Seller on the list is beyond me.
Tapscott is also not an AFL player. Another Barry P special.
He's been kissed on the doodle Barry P, getting a oppo job at Carlton after bringing so many non-competeive hacks into the MFC.....Well Done Baz you will be remembered!!

Surely you recruit mature ages to play?
Surely you recruit every player to play.

Jones trained with the Dogs before the draft in 2011, he was very unlucky to miss out to Austin. His season at Box Hill was very good in 2012 when he played in the middle. As Box Hill had a lot of Hawthorn players running around in the VFL last year when Jones was forced to play on the wing or half back he struggled but some of his work through the midfeild was that of an AFL standard.

They are very light on for ruckmen and I'm surprised they didn't go after Stef Martin when we were negotiating with them for Dawes.
If the aging Jolly goes down, they're really cactus.
They have Jarrod Witts developing nicely.

Agree Tess that they're both speculative selections in the top 10. My reasoning for them both being picked up by the Bulldogs are a combination of Stringer's form pre broken leg and the amount of love the Bulldogs seem to have for him. Highly doubt he'd last till their Pick 22.
As for Shaw I think he could be a calculated risk that the Bulldogs may take. Their forward line is in even more trouble then ours and Shaw is someone who could come in and have an immediate impact. Their midfield stocks are reasonable with the likes of Wallis, Smith and Liberatore coming through and their defence has Williams, Roughead, Markovic. They may take a punt on the best young forward at that pick, like we did with Molan and Cook (I know they didn't end well) and even drafting another tall at 22 to address their biggest weakness at the moment.
Kristen Jaeskch will go higher then Shaw, Taylor Garner will go between 10-20 for certain, no way Macrae will go past the top 10 and Nathan Wright and Tanner Smith are not a top 20 picks.
-
Nice going Tall Defence, particularly liked the write ups of the lesser knowns from West and South Australia some of which didn't even play in the champs. Impressive.
Stringer should be picked up in the top 10, he will get back to his physical capacity once he gets into a professional environment. A guy who kicks 10 goals and has 25 touches in his first game back from a broken leg is far too talented to let go outside the top ten. If he gets past Bulldogs he will be off the table after Richmond's pick at 9.
He runs like an old women and wont get picked in the top 10 due to the risk, one that the dogs cant afford to take.
-
No way Stringer and Shaw will be picked in the top 10. Both way too speculative to be picked that early.
-
Pedersen's AFL games this year were not great. He cant hold down a key post at AFL level. At VFL he played mainly ruck and ruck rover. This indicates the Roos dont rate him as you would think he would be played in a key role the same as he would at AFL level because at the 193cm he may struggle against Mumford and Cox all day.
-
Has he played there? I hadn't noticed.
Not once this year. The coaches just must not rate him at all.
-
Play in Defence?
He does not have the speed.
The slow key backs at AFL level are all strong units. He does not have the strength.
-
You were a fan of Cook weren't you, wasn't you that said he'd be a good player for us? What do you think he has to do to improve?
A work rate that key forwards need to have to be a success, a thirst for the contest, a desire for body contact and a huge amount of improved body strength.
-
Gysberts is an inside mid with an outside mids body. His best work is done in close but struggles holding his body positioning. He needs to improve his work rate around the ground. His inability to spread offensively and defensively with conviction is of concern. If he doesnt improve these areas he will never make it.

The fact here is the bloke who started this thread would rarely have seen these two blokes play. So how the hell would they know if they are any good!!

I'm starting to warm to the idea of gaining both picks in the mini draft. So as far as recruits go this off season I'm hoping for.
Trade picks 3 & 4 for 2 mini draft picks being Josh Kelly and Jesse Hogan.
Secure Jarred Moore and Jordan Russell as free agents.
Trade maybe Stef Martin to get David Mackay (I remain hopeful).
Trade Ricky Petterd to secure Koby Stevens.
Package Moloney with our 3rd round pick for either Scott Gumbleton or Shaun McKernan.
Draft:
2nd Scully compo pick, either one of Mason Shaw, Ben Kennedy or Dayle Garlett
2nd round pick, Jack Viney (F/S)
4th round pick, either one of Paul Marschall, Josh Scott or Mason Wood
5th round pick, upgrade Daniel Nicholson
PSD:
If with Melbournes 1st pick in the national draft Melbourne secure Mason Shaw then I'd be looking at someone like Jake Neade
If Melbourne secure Ben Kennedy or Dayle Garlett with the first pick then I'd be looking at one of Khan Haretuku, Tim Smith or Beau Dowler.
Beau Dowler?
You haven't seen him play have you?
-
Some trades I'd like to see happen, which keep our first 3 rounds of draft picks are:
- Stef Martin for Wellingham - Why would the pies trade a potential a grader for a player that is an in-between ruck/forward?
- Sylvia for Luke Parker - One is a highly promising midfielder that will be capable of playing consist football for a number of years the other is Colin Sylvia
- 4th round pick + Ricky Petterd for Matt Campbell - Perhaps
- Cale Morton for Koby Stevens / Andrew Strijk - Just plain silly to think any club would want Cale Morton
- Late picks for Brett Meredith, Levi Greenwood - You want to bring in two list cloggers from others clubs to clog up our list?
Realistic targets for free agency:
Jordan Russell -
Ricky Dyson -
Shannon Byrnes
Danyle Pearce
Nathan Foley
Quinten Lynch

Not an AFL player.
