Rumours up here in Qld that the Dees, Freo and Swans will be hubbed in Cairns to play Rds 15-16.

I strongly highlight the word 'rumours' until something official is announced as it's a mate of a mate of a mate situation.

Given our recent experience playing games in Darwin, it could be to our advantage compared to Freo/Swans.

But it would make it a fourth hub location since the team left Melbourne - Sydney, Maroochydore, Adelaide, Cairns - which isn't ideal.

Makes sense as we have yet to play either Freo or the Swans. If it turns out that we’re still in the hunt for the finals then playing teams that are close to the bottom and not much to play for can be an advantage.

-Grundy looks tired and not impacting much apart from winning the hitouts, Gawn could outrun him off his feet

It looked as if Grundy was being managed as he was off the ground a lot more than usual.

Callum Twomey’s 25 best draft prospects.

Tall, athletic and versatile: 25 of the best draft prospects

... and some news from WA.

The impact on the draft of academies and father-sons can be measured by this -

Cody Brand 195cm/85kg 23/5/02 Calder Cannons/Vic Metro Tall defender Essendon NGA

Tanner Bruhn 182cm/73kg 27/5/02 Geelong Falcons/Vic Country Midfielder

Braeden Campbell 180cm/73kg 4/2/02 Sydney Academy/Allies Midfielder Sydney Swans Academy

Heath Chapman 193cm/81kg 31/1/02 West Perth/Western Australia Key defender

    Nik Cox 199cm/82kg 15/1/02 Northern Knights/Vic Metro Key forward/defender

Alex Davies 191cm/85kg 18/3/02 Gold Coast Academy/Allies Midfielder Gold Coast Academy

Zac Dumesny 187cm/79kg 26/4/02 South Adelaide/Western Australia Midfielder

    Luke Edwards 187cm/82kg 12/1/02 Glenelg/South Australia Midfielder Adelaide Father-Son

    Denver Grainger-Barras 195cm/78kg 17/4/02 Swan Districts/Western Australia Key defender

Errol Gulden 171cm/71kg 18/7/02 Sydney Academy/Allies Midfielder/forward Sydney Swans Academy

Oliver Henry 188cm/76kg 29/7/02 Geelong Falcons/Vic Country Forward

    Elijah Hollands 188cm/85kg 25/4/02 Murray Bushrangers/Vic Country Forward/midfielder

Joel Jeffrey 192cm/78kg 12/3/02 NT Thunder/Allies Forward/defender Gold Coast Academy

    Lachie Jones 185cm/88kg 9/4/02 Woodville-West Torrens/South Australia Defender/midfielder Port Adelaide NGA

Finlay Macrae 184cm/75kg 13/3/02 Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro Midfielder

Logan McDonald 196cm/85kg Perth/Western Australia Tall forward

Reef McInnes 192cm/84kg Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro Midfielder Collingwood NGA

    Nathan O'Driscoll 187cm/76kg 17/5/02 Perth/Western Australia Midfielder

    Archie Perkins 186cm/77kg 26/3/02 Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro Midfielder/forward

Will Phillips 180cm/79kg 22/5/02 Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro Midfielder

Jamarra Ugle-Hagan 194cm/84kg 4/4/02 Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro Key forward Western Bulldogs NGA

That’s nine out of the top 25 by Twomey including the player tipped to go at #1.

It’s going to be fascinating to see how this pans out on draft night and how Melbourne will handle the situation whereby we don’t have a pick in the first round at the moment.

The Herald Sun is reporting that Tom McDonald has been cleared of serious damage to his injured eye and could be back on field against Hawthorn on Sunday after he was taken to hospital as a precaution and found to have a scratched eyeball. The eye area remains quite bruised and closed over and will be monitored by club medical staff during the week. McDonald will be on light duties for the next few days, but the Demons hope he can return to training later in the week and is a chance to play against the Hawks at Giants’ Stadium.

If Bennell doesn’t get picked based on the below this week then Goody can pack his bags.
    Weid should be picked too

Of course, most Demons supporters want to hear how Harley Bennell is tracking, and Egan said he was impressed with the 27-year-old’s outing.

“He had really good balance in his game – offence and defence,” he said.

“He used the ball really well which he always does, and I think he finished with close to 35 possessions, so he was obviously around the ball a lot.

“He’s really calm and composed, and always makes the right choice. It was a really classy performance from him.”

Of course 35 touches by a classy disposer of the footy isn’t good enough for our selectors.

AFL Draft Central looks at the 2020 Draft’s speed kings -

Preseason testing analysis: Which State is the fastest?

An interesting name in that group is Kobi George from the Dandenong Stingrays who came in at fifth fastest from Victoria. He’s been on Melbourne’s books for a while as a Next Generation Academy player.

Kobi George is 19 years old and only played a few games with the Dandenong Stingrays last year. I’m not sure that he’s still a next generation academy prospect. Even if he is, not sure that he’s good enough to get drafted.

  14. There’s a theory that when clubs trade their picks, they usually discuss and agree among themselves as to who they won’t take with the picks swapped. If that’s the case, it’s feasible that we have some consensus from Freo that they won’t select certain players with #7 & #8 leaving Carlton as the party that could spoil our efforts to select who we’re looking at with #10. We could also have agreed with them that we’re leaving Jack Martin alone. This could leave open a clear path for us to get the man we want.

This wouldn’t be so easy or clear cut if we then split 10 for 14 & 17 etc.

Anyhow I think we’re done doing splits.
