  1. http://www.fremantlefc.com.au/news/2018-10-18/hogan-feeling-the-love it is a difficult watch, but he seems happy. would love to see a romantic story of him coming back to the dees, but don't think it is likely; he looks like he is already enjoying family, friends and the beach... and so he should. Love and miss him, but am very excited at the prospect of having May in our backline and most likely KK dashing in the middle. I think we have improved our list despite the loss of Hogan. I also didn't realise how young Preuss was, he is a great get too. Looking forward to 2019.
  2. I am gutted about Jesse leaving and not because I think losing him will ruin our premiership chances or anything like that – it is possible we are a better chance next year following this trade – but more because of the sentiment of losing a player like him. He was for all MFC fans, the great white hope that finally delivered. After years of failed drafting and players leaving, this felt like the one that would help us turn a corner, and he did. Though of course it was not Hogan alone, but he certainly was an integral part of it. We became an attractive club because he promised talent and showed it too. I wish Hoges all the best in this next phase of his career (but not to Freo as they are a bunch of garden gnomes). Thankful for the memories and that he stayed as long as he did. It is hard not to be angry losing a player of his calibre but cannot underestimate the feeling of home and the pull that it has – he has done what he and the MFC inevitably had to do.
  3. I do not think we are being “shafted” in giving Hogan and in return receiving May, KK and Pick 23, however I still feel as though the deal is certainly unders. KK should not be part of the deal – Mahoney said earlier last week that we would have been able to facilitate a trade regardless of whether we trade Hogan or not, so IMO, he should be a separate deal entirely. Essentially, Freo are giving us Pick 5 and 23, which although “acceptable”, is not a fair compensation. It really should be Pick 5 and 11 or Pick 5 and next year’s first rounder. But given our desire for May and Hogan’s desire to go home, it seems we have lost the bargaining power in this trade and we just have to make the most out of what we will get. It is disappointing, but in all honesty, we cannot assess the fairness of a trade for another couple of years. Right now, if the deal turns out to be what is currently assumed, I won’t be in an uproar, but I definitely won’t be happy. Losing a player of Hogan’s calibre is never an easy pill to swallow, but unfortunately, we just have to accept it for what it is and trust in the department for now. I will say though, I have a new most hated team and that team is Freo.
  4. You're right, it is. But anything that is a great distraction or form of procrastination from work or study is addictive and unfortunately, this is where I have found myself haha but you have balanced my thoughts...i will continue to read, without buying!
  5. This is just becoming a bit of a joke now. I might sound melodramatic, but the toing and froing, the he’s staying and he’s leaving, is truly exhausting. I will be over the moon if he stays, but if he does, he needs to sign a long-term contract and put this to bed. It is frustrating for supporters, it is destabilising for the MFC, and most of all, it is a distraction for Jesse. If don’t think I can bear starting another Jesse Hogan Panic Room or Trade to Freo thread this time next year. This whole ordeal is just so peculiar and there just seems to be something off about it. There has never been real clarity provided to the supporters by any of the parties involved regarding the nature and reasoning behind the trade. I just want to know what is happening because it is exhausting – one minute I am prepared for him to leave, the next I am excited that he will stay only to find out he is leaving again. It is farcical.
  6. GC will want a top 5 pick for sure. I do not necessarily think May is worth a top 5 pick but since Gold Coast will likely finish bottom three-five next year, they will just retain him for another year and then wait for compensation, which should guarantee them a top five pick anyway. For GC to accept the trade, I don't think pick 14 will do the job unfortunately, but also fair enough - I would hope Melbourne do the same if we were in their position. This is why I think Melbourne are so adamant about pick 5 and 6; we obviously want to take one to the draft and use the other to secure May. If it were pick 5 and say pick 12, we would have to use pick 5 on May and pick 12 in the draft, which will still get us a pretty nifty player, but perhaps not who we are after (…hopefully Rankine ?)
  7. I don’t think financially we can’t afford May without losing Hogan, it’s more that we have no trade currency, which we don’t.
  8. I personally think the Suns should draft the king brothers and that way they have a reason to keep talent at their club. Both look like guns too.
  9. Well, I’ll be happy to be proven wrong, but looks like Hogan is out the door. Shame because he’s such a talent and it would have been nice to keep the group that saw the beginning of our rise together. But, it is what it is, and now it’s time to look at how we can maximise this to our advantage. Personally, I see Freo giving us their picks 4 and 5 as the most appropriate compensation, but they may give us 5 and 10. If we are to receive picks 4 and 5, trade pick 5 to GC for May + KK and then use pick 4 in the draft to secure Izak Rankine. I saw someone post earlier that Port are right into him, but if the Hogan deal is done, we should be too. The kid looks a gun - speedy, agile, and a regular feature in the highlight reel. check out these highlights from his 2017 and 2018 seasons. I saw on his Instagram he likes to sing as well - he can do duets with Robbo.
  10. I understand the whole club talk of “he’s a contracted player”, he is a “Melbourne man” etc., but there was something more convincing in Gawn’s statement. To say he expects to see Hoges in red and blue next year is quite strong because if it is true he is homesick, to put expectations on a teammate and friend that is struggling just isn’t in Gawn’s character. I might be overanalysing but I felt like Gawn’s statement was genuine. Oh well, it is just a waiting game I guess
  11. What’d he say?
  12. Really gutted to hear that, but fully respect and understand Jesse's predicament and desire to go home. We will no doubt get a great return, but from a long-term perspective, I cannot see us coming out of this trade winning (unless we win a premiership in the next five/ten years obviously). He is going to be an absolute star. However, I guess you could argue that for him to become that star, he needs to be where his heart is and that is obviously in Perth. Wish him all the best and would hope that no one would boo him - he has been a great player for our club and it is important to remember, life is just bigger than footy. Still clinging onto some glimmer of hope that he may decide to stay, but if not, good luck at Freo.
  13. more than dean kent unfortunately
  14. From what I gathered, it is a case of Freo contacting Hogan management and Melbourne being made aware of this. Melbourne would prefer to keep Hogan but if he declares that he would like to go home - which no one has officially reported he has, only that he is “open to it” - then Melbourne would begin discussions. But ultimately, Melbourne see hoges as a part of our future and would like to keep him. The fact that there has been no adamant declaration he wants to leave, only “open” to a trade, suggests to me that it is perhaps his management team at work as they probably begin discussions for a contract extension with Melbourne. truthfully, no one knows anything but my gut feeling is that it is all just noise and that hoges will stay a dee.
  15. It was said On the Couch tonight that basically there has been some sort of shift in the Hogan trade talk within the last few days - it seems that they are not as definitive about him staying now. However, the trade is not being driven by the club at all, they want him to stay; it is either being driven by Freo or Hogan. The case, IMO, is that Freo are driving it and have proposed something quite tempting to Hogan’s management. Perhaps Hogan’s management are using the talk to up Melbourne’s offer that they will no doubt begin discussing with him as part of probably a long term contract extension. This last paragraph is just my opinion though, no sources. I think he will resign on long term extension, but if not, we should play hard ball and accept nothing less than two first round draft picks.
  16. Not that instagram=friendship, but they don't even follow each other on instagram... and it is just as important to note that hogan and brayshaw, hogan and oliver, hogan and etc., are super close mates. I am not sure if a friendship with Nat Fyfe will ultimately determine whether or not Jesse will be heading to Freo or not.
  17. Have met him a couple of times as I work with Challenge - the not-for-profit organisation, which supported him through his first battle with leukaemia and which he has been ambassador for over the last 15 years or so. Last time we spoke we chatted about the Dees and how it seems like we are finally heading on the right track. Hope he is around long enough to see some (hopefully) finals success this year. He gave so much to the Challenge organisation and is truly one of the most selfless and giving humans one can meet. It would be a nice gesture by the MFC to do something for him and to wear a yellow armband in support of not only Jarrod, but the Challenge organisation, which he loved and gave so much for. Great guy and sending all the love in the world to both him and his family.
  18. slightly different because Scully told us all he was staying, but most disgustingly, promised a dying jim stynes he would too. Scully is a rat and deserves every ounce of hate directed towards him By the sounds of it, Lever hasn't made any promises to Adelaide this year that he knew he wouldn't be able to keep
  19. Is this rumour about collingwood playing hard ball for him true/have any substance to it? If it does and they are offering two first rounders, this might make the deal a lot harder for us to land him. Collingwood are the biggest bloody disease to plague the earth
  20. Dave Misson's wife is the principal of Melbourne Girls Grammar.....
  21. Lol that wasn't an attack and I wasn't trying to imply you did, but sorry if my thoughts so greatly stirred you up... I promise not to 'target' you again
  22. I understand what you're saying, but it seems that Hogan really loves the club. We have supported him enormously through what has been presumably the toughest year of his life and I can't see us involving him in a trade unless he requested it, which I don't think he has. He seems like a quiet and reserved guy and it is probably for this reason the 'homesick' stigma is so frequently attached to him. But I think Hoges loves it at our club and has some great friends in people like Brayshaw, who also has had an incredibly tough year. I just don't see the club getting Lever via a trade involving Hogan - particularly given we just resigned him at the end of last year's season.
  23. I feel as though if the meeting did not happen, Goodwin and co. would have come out blatantly saying it did not happen. However, though he did not acknowledge it happened, he gave a very systematic answer that did not deny it and Jones voiced words that were nearly exactly the same. Goodwin doesn't muck around with the media and if it didn't happen, he wouldn't have made his answer so ambiguous.
  24. They just said on SEN that Jake Lever officially met with Melbourne FC last week and that he was apparently unhappy with the first offer Adelaide offered him.. doesn't guarantee he is leaving or anything but still very interesting
  25. OMac I believe has the potential to be a really talented key position defender and we saw glimpses as to why in the second half of that game. He has all the qualities and skills to be a star but he just lacks confidence at this very moment. I have a feeling Goodwin must have said to OMac at half-time that he needs to stop panicking and to just back himself because the Oscar we saw in the first half was just a shadow of the one we saw in second. He fought hard to make a contest and showed great composure in what was a really frantic last half of footy. The truth of the matter is that key position players take time to develop and it's rare that they are born stars. We let players like Dunn go and persevere in giving OMac games to hopefully fast track his development and it is slowly starting to pay off. I hope this is a turning point for Oscar as yesterday's game will only enrich him with confidence and belief that he really can take on his opponents and win contests. Goody made deliberate mention of Oscar's game in the press conference and for good reason, he deserved it! I think the issue is we are expecting too much of players like Oscar and Weideman who are only still early in their development. Their inexperience will sometimes frustrate us, but giving the games is the best way we are going to see improvement and build a strong future - particularly for Oscar as we desperately need to improve our backline.
