  1. Well that's done, can close this thread - Sanderson has signed with Collingwood as expected.
  2. Surely it can't be "attend live"... What about when we play interstate? It leaves no time, before and after the match. Most you'd be able to squeeze in is maybe one match live.
  3. I'd say the risk is too high, i.e. the 98% likelihood that he'll just be taking up a spot on our list but won't actually be able to contribute in a meaningful way.
  4. So highly rated that they prefer Kersten as a forward, and 3 others as ruckmen? Even Mitch Clark got brought back into the senior side after a couple of good VFL games, against better judgment.. Everybody with any ability at the cats, gets talked about as being highly rated (unless you're Billie Smedts). They've made an art form out of persevering with players whose bodies keep breaking down: Vardy, Menzel, Cowan, Lincoln McCarthy, Mitch Clark... Unfortunately for Vardy, his body is toast and he hasn't been able to re-capture his past form in the small amount of time he's managed to get back on the park. I was told a couple of years ago he was on the verge of retirement because his hip was that bad, but he followed the lead of all the others that refused to give up. The cats were actually angry with him because he was meant to be rehabbing and was inexplicably given permission to go to Europe with mates as long as he adhered to strict guidelines, but then the club became aware of him "being overly active" on many occasions when on the [censored] and when he came back it hadn't healed very well at all. Good enough guy, handy player when he was fit, but for us I think he'd only be giving us the opportunity to upgrade a rookie, if you know what I mean.
  5. I thought Cat B rookies were unlimited?
  6. Believe me, the doctors down at Geelong are of the opinion that his body is done. They are surprised he managed to get back out on the park & it's only a matter of time before he breaks down again unfortunately.
  7. Just like selling the far for O'Meara or Prestia could hurt some clubs...
  8. I've said before - stay away. That he managed to get back on the field and play some games was a minor miracle. His body is cooked, don't waste your time.
  9. Highly rated assistant coach at Geelong during a period when they won multiple premierships. Competent coach at Adelaide, but he apparently got noses out of joint by making unpopular calls on ageing favourites & by simply not being Phil Walsh. Don't see why he wouldn't be a good choice. It's not about finding THE exact right person - it's about finding good people for the roles you need to fill and giving them resources. I think Sanderson is a good person for the vacancy, but we could easily fill it with someone else just as capable.
  10. Any more word on who will be appointed as an assistant to fill Goodwin's former role? Btw, this happened - http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/geelong/geelong-assistant-coach-blake-caracella-to-leave-linked-to-richmond/news-story/c72a64df4b7445ae4e1aef9e1bd80e00 Who would have guessed? ...
  11. Moreso than a player who is in the top 5 for 3 games in a row, but only plays in wins? Juat saying, it lends itself to an anomaly that may be publicly perceived as unfair.
  12. Could easily mean he's personally attending NEAFL, SANFL & WAFL matches, to get a proper read on draft smokies, considering the lateness of our draft picks. (If there is any truth to Tony's tweet)
  13. Yeah, but you might. Just seems ill-conceived when you could accrue more votes through being on a team that loses.
  14. The new AFLCA "finals MVP" essentially. It is just like the regular season AFLCA award, where each coach gives 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1 votes to a player, and the player with the most votes at the end of the finals will win... I wonder if they have considered that players from teams in the top 4 that win in the first week will be disadvantaged, as they will have one less game in which to accrue votes..? Anyway, just occurred to me that it is ill-conceived.
  15. They don't always know everything. Plenty of instances where the newsboys have not had a clue what was coming.
  16. Maybe, but Port's problem is their salary cap is overloaded. I have a feeling they may take a bit less than what he'd normally be worth in trade, in turn for the receiving team taking on his entire salary.
  17. Because Hodge, Burgoyne & Gibson took peanuts because they know their bodies are cooked, and will break down eventually next year. Gibson has a bulging disc in his back, and knows he's unlikely to play much. I still don't know how he got on the park on Friday.
  18. Somehow I think the comparison was in regards to style, not quality...
  19. My guess would be that he'll end up on an AFL list next year whether we draft him or not.
  20. It'd be telling that he was a heartless [censored] if he shot off to Vegas with his mates while his old man was on his deathbed.
  21. I see what you're saying, but Burgoyne was a much faster, smoother and classier player than Hartlett, and was a leader at Port. There was an injury cloud over him at the time of the trade, lowering his value. Hartlett would be more of a gamble. Like any trade proposition, it comes down to the cost.
  22. Really? Telling in what way? We have no reason to disbelieve that his father is ill, so staying in Perth around his family would make perfect sense regardless of his playing future.
  23. Is that asking, disguised as a quip? I'll give you this Saty, I might shake my head at some of the stuff you report, but I do believe that what you write on this forum as feedback from the players you genuinely have heard from their mouths, albeit there is a sizeable element of omission. I also believe you really do say to them what you say you do, which often perplexes me, but each to their own.
  24. That was my immediate thought. Takes a lot of grabs around the ground, based on this showing. Would be a better prospect than Longer.
  25. Do you know what Miles brings to the table? His skillset mainly consists of winning contested footy at the coalface, but butchering possession. A less-rounded version of Michie. Who would be replace on the ball? Oliver? Jones? Viney? He thrives (relatively) at Richmond because they are such a soft side.
