    Fyfe is cooked

Brayshaw, serong are both gun players

We had the chance to draft young but elected to pick a WA boy who checked out half way through his stint at Melbourne

I don't understand why Goodwin let harmes Jordan and Grundy walk. Having those 3 in our squad now would be a big help

Grundy wanted out when Gawn wouldn’t let him have the number one ruck spot so that was just bad judgment by the club thinking they could play together.

Harmes could barely get a game last year and was clearly trending backwards and we drafted Windsor who had taken Jordan’s spot.

Brayshaw is the one that hurts and would have allowed more flexibility round the midfield mix without robbing the backline between him Rivers and Salem.

With Oliver having the preseason he did it’s no surprise he’s gone backwards and Viney been the wrong side of 30 it’s not surprising his output has dropped

If you look at most teams it’s rare they stay up more than 3 years in a row so think this step backwards was inevitable

What are you on about? Bloke's had us in top 4 for 3.5 years. You obviously weren't around for the bad years.

Judd, Kerr and Cousins also only got one flag, were they also wasted careers?

Entitled Melbourne supporters will get us back to dark ages, not Simon Goodwin

Don’t agree with moving Goodwin on but he needs to come clean on where the list is at, the longer we are in denial the longer the fall will be. And that wc team did massively under achieve and I think when we look back we will say the same about this team to.

It was his positioning that I had issue with. It wasn't attacking to get the ball on the outside (as it went on the other side) he was just in no-mans land and I couldn't understand it.

I don’t think it’s intentional, he’s just not fit enough atm to get in the right position for the zone

I’m all ears @binman. Put a positive spin on that one.

I don’t think even he can manage to find a positive, as to a question for the pod is the red and blue print 2024 a failure and do we need to go back to the dees plan of 2021-23 or do we need to persist and see this through

Seeing Clayton five meters away from his opponent when they got an easy entry goal made me go wtf that's for sure

I guess the question is do we have any other options, from what I’ve seen there is no one putting any pressure on his position. Would you throw Salem or Rivers in there for the next 10 weeks and see how that goes? I think that would effectively be waving the white flag on this season but then again is limping into finals by doing nothing helpful either.

    Completely beaten.

So many kicks and handballs falling short of the target it is comical. Turnovers or lost contests everywhere and then holes all over the place for the opposition to come through.

I've not seen us that flustered and all-round ineffective in four years.

Clearly at the moment we are wildly up and down each week and the up isn't as up as the down is down.

For all that the result has been just about decided already, this second half is an important one for the mentality of the club.

3 of our worst games since Goodwin started have been this season, today, lions and wc, mix in a number of slow starts that point to issues. I’ve said all year we aren’t a contender we need to at least make something of the remaining season and learn who on the list will take us fwd, no point putting more games into petty, mcadam billings, hunter. Oliver also needs to be spelled and get his body right and if not traded out for what we can get

His body is also mostly cooked, if we are going to invest to recruit someone it should be a younger prospect.

Same was said about brown, I think he’s probably in better condition than he was.

Who is a younger prospect that is gettable this off season and would come to dees, I don’t see any that would be notable. I don’t think the king bros are gettable nor is Larkey or McDonald not sure who else you have in mind

  8. McAdam and Petty need to go back to the 2nds, time we bring in Jefferson and see what he is about no point waiting till it’s forced on us late in the year and then one of Sestan, Brown or Tholstrup as a fwd / mid

Lions lost to the hawks in round 10.

The pies were in struggle town when the hawks beat them - hit by injury and their key metrics had cratered (most notably scores from turnover and the back half).

Difference with pies is they had a 2 game gap between them and 2nd and 3 between them and 3rd with 5 rounds remaining and with that the luxury of preparing for finals. At the present time dees are in a fight to hold a sport inside the 8. By no means is the season over but don’t I don’t think the example is comparable. I could be proven wrong but dees this year unlike the last 3 seem clearly to have fallen back to the pack but some what lucky for us outside swans everyone else has had more than a few stumbles

Agree - who thinks we have depth?

    Certainly, not many on here

When Brown and Billings are still getting a game, you know the cupboard is quite bare

The problem is if our main liners don’t have a good game it rare to see the next players down step up, although I don’t know that is unique to us. But when’s the last time Sparrow ANB, rivers, Salem and the like stepped up when players like Trac and Oliver or May are Struggling. They play there role and might have a good game when when everyone else is but I dont recall when they have had a statement game when the chips were down

Just [censored] footy, terrible sad stuff to watch as a Melbourne supporter.  Bring in Jeffo, bring in Sestan, inject a bit of youth and give guys like BBB and Billings a bit of a rest.  I like Billings, but we can't have that happening when he lines up from a good spot, looks like a deer in the headlights.

Everyone sucked though, can't blame umps, can't blame anything, we were [censored] and it hurts.

Harley Reid is too good...is he human?  He's huge and powerful and fast and just a kid...best player in the league already it's insane.

Could bring in any fwds you like and it wouldn’t help with only 36 inside 50s for the game, we simply couldn’t move the ball from defensive 50 to attacking 50 and when we did it didn’t stay long

Hard to fathom we not only lost to such a bad team, but got dominated in every facet of the game. That was as bad a loss as we've ever had under Goodwin. Our midfield is spluttering along. What has happened? Has Mcqualter derailed whatever synergy they used to have? Genuinely confused how one of the most dominant midfields this century has turned to rubbish with largely the same personnel on field.

Feels like maybe they have just hit a wall after 3 years at the very top, Oliver clearly down for obvious reasons, trac looks like he has got to big and lost some agility, viney just getting older and has begun the slow decline. Sparrow hasn’t really taken the next step and I don’t think anb is really a legitimate answer but tries his best and is fine to fill rotations on occasion
