Interesting that no matches to be played there which puts Casey firmly into play for VFL etc

This is really to try and get as many additional members as we can, given it is a big growth area out that way.

If we want to compete financially with Collingwood, Richmond and Carlton we have to find a way to get to 80k+ members.

  2. Adam Simpson on Barrass after the game "I hope he gets off. He's a good guy". hahaha hilarious.

The tribunal have made a rod for their own back. If they don't let players off on the good guy rule they are essentially saying one person isn't as good as the other.

I love the detail that the ball actually bounces off Greene's shoulder. He has literally stopped going for the ball out of fear of impact, and then barrelled into the much more vulnerable opponent's head.

He chose to bump instead of contest the ball.

If that isn't a simple one for the MRO then they are in serious trouble.

The MRO gave it a week, it's now up to the tribunal.

They'll have that hit on L.Neale that got him the face as precedent. The AFL digs themselves holes that they cannot get of.

Make the rules simple. Any punch, jumper push, closed fist, open hand...to any part of the body is automatic 1 week minimum. Then you can have grades that can increase the sentence based on severity and potential to cause injury.

I am more convinced now than ever, that the AFL deliberately leave in these loop holes to allow for wiggle room to let off certain players/clubs. I mean the entire commission and senior leadership at the AFL are freakin lawyers.

Neale was hit in the stomach wasn't he? Personally I'm comfortable if any off the ball stuff like what Pendlebury did is given a week. It's just not needed in the game.

  5. Wonder if Lukosious becomes a realistic option should we have an agreement with Petty to move him on if we find a suitable replacement.

Again, we don't have to trade him at the end of this year as he is contracted for next season so things would have to be in our favour to do it.

i would enjoy having maynard on the stand under oath and asking if he intended to hurt people during that game and if he did all he could to exercise his duty of care to other players

He's probably told himself this and convinced himself it's true so he can live with the fact he ended a blokes career and one who I think he knows relatively well.

Good ideas. Hunter is interesting but emotions wise I'd like to see Tholstrup get one more game

I thought Tholstrup was fine in his first game and I think he will be a real player, just had to find someone for Kozzy.

I guess you could drop Billings, but realistically he was better than Tholstrup.

  8. I'm hoping we go the following for the team:

    Outs: Salem, Brown & Tholstrup

    Ins: Fullarton, Hunter & Pickett

    B:      McVee       May              Lever

    HB:   Rivers        McDonald     Howes

    C:     Windsor      Viney           Langdon

    HF:   ANB            Petty            Chandler

    F:      Fritsch        JVR              Pickett

    R:      Gawn          Oliver          Petracca

    Int:    Fullarton     Sparrow       Billings     Hunter

    Sub: Woewodin

Hunter, Langdon and Windsor to rotate between wing and half back to cover Salem.

Fullarton to play back up ruck and JVR to play 100% forward and use as ruck in the forward line (Fullarton & Gawn to play a kick behind play).

Random thought - does the AFL have to follow any rules, or are they able to do whatever they like? There's no legislation regulating their decisions and we all continue to buy memberships, merchandise and go to games.

No I don't believe so. That's why I've suggested they should just run with a panel who makes the decisions, no tribunal or anything. Once they make a decision it's final. The AFL can do what they want, it's their competition though I'm sure there are certain things built into their constitution or whatever they call it. The tribunal an antiquated system that goes back years to the time where there was no TV, so the people who witnessed things had to sit down and argue the facts. We have  cameras now on every instance so I don't understand why it is needed.

  10. Would jump at him in a heartbeat. Would be fantastic as a roaming CHF similar to Jeremy Cameron.

I really hope we go hard in trade and free agency this year to bring in some ready made players. After bringing in Windsor, Kolt and Brown last year and Jeffo, Adams & Verrall last year we've got a decent amount of kids for a side contending. Throw in Rivers, Pickett, Bowey, JVR, McVee, Howes, Woey, Turner & Sestan that is a heap of youth. I realise we don't have a real top line mid in that group other than Windsor, I think the time is now to really go hard. Can't waste our time with Trac, Viney and Oliver....

  11. I do wonder if rucking results in JVR being spent by the time he moves into the forward line, causing him to struggle to maximise his marking etc as a forward.

I am personally keen to see Fullarton come in for Brown as the ruck/forward and leave JVR at CHF for the Richmond game. I think Petty we just have to persist with as he gains fitness throughout the year.

  12. So many people also blaming Lever for it, wow. He was picked up and thrown backwards and a tackle like that would be a sin bin in the NRL. I do think he put a bit of mayo at the end, but doesn't change the fact the tackle was dangerous.

Also, trying to use the weight difference as an excuse, Jack Viney has been on record saying his brother can easily take him down and he has him covered by a good 10-20kgs but it doesn't matter if you use your weight correctly.

so it turns out the filth did give murphy a new deal at the start of this year to last til the end of 2025

in the little paper jon ralph is saying:

They will honour that deal, but given the AFL has indicated it will set a precedent over Angus Brayshaw’s long-term contract it will not cost them in the salary cap.

The Pies and Demons will be able to exempt all or most of the salaries of those players going forward so Murphy’s retirement will in fact clear cap space for the Pies going forward.

    Perfect. McLuggage anyone?

Contrast the rationale for clearing Yeo to the justification for suspending Pickett. There is simply no consistency in the rules that are being applied.

    NFI! Christian strikes again.

  15. @binman keen to get your thoughts how much benefit the Lions had from having their bye 3 weeks prior, given their pressure levels were incredible.

Based off this we should be in a pretty good physical condition for the Cats and Blues games, which hopefully can see us get wins in both games.

  16. In regards to the real or perceived perception that the MRO does its best to protect the top players/brownlow chances, I think there is a pretty simple change that could be made.

They should only ban players from winning the brownlow if they are sent direct to the tribunal. Given how easy it is to be suspended these days, you could be slightly off on your attack on the ball and cop a week suspension. Suspensions previously were for acts off the ball or hitting a bloke late, whereas now you can be a millisecond off and get a suspension.

  17. Butters is not a dirty player and I admire his attack on the ball, but players and supporters need to realise the game has shifted. How the AFL can condone that type of attack on the ball, which was a whisker from ending in a bad concussion to Banfield is a joke.
