  1. Whilst I would love to have Dangerfield, I personally don't see him coming to us. I think its more likely that the Shiel for pick 3 will eventuate and 2 will be traded on for a lower first round selection and player, another Tyson kind of deal.

  2. Agreed that it could be one big fish and then a bunch of fringe players that other coaches aren't developing properly. Roos is acutely aware of talent at other clubs that are either being played in the wrong position, or left out of the team. GWS parting with Dom Tyson says it all, they clearly didn't rate him as highly as Roos, and they'd be regretting that trade now.

Roosy's comments the other day about supporters not wanting to wait 3 or 4 years for success, and wanting it right now, definitely suggests he's going to be ruthless and get this team up and running before he's out. His ego won't let him leave the club anywhere near the bottom 4.

I'm super keen on some of the gws players. I've read a bit that they want to try to spread the age across their list so i'd be floating pick 3 for a player such as Treloar, Hoskin-Elliot, Devon Smith, Shiel etc. if any of the them want to head back to Vic.

  3. Collingwood trade Lumumba and mid second round pick to North Melbourne for pick 15

Dees trade Picks 3, early second Rd'er & Mitch Clark to Collingwood for now Collingwoods pick 15

Adelaide trade Dangerfield and pick 10 to Melbourne

Melbourne then send Picks 2 and 15 back to Adelaide

Collingwood trade early 2nd Rd'er from Dees & Beams to Brisbane for Aish

    Collingwood ontrade Aish to Adelaide

    North Melbourne: Lose - Pick 15 > gain mid 2nd Rd'er & Lumumbaa

    Adelaide: Lose - pick 10 & Dangerfiled > gain picks 2, 15 & Aish.

    Brisbane: Lose - Aish > gain early 2nd Rd'er & Beams

    Collingwood: Lose - Pick mid 2nd Rd'er, Beams & Lumumbaa >gain Picks 3 & Clark

    Melbourne: Lose - Picks 2, 3, early 2nd Rd'er & Clark > gain Picks 10, 15 & Dangerfield.

I think this is fair for all and also allows for the Dees to then ontrade picks 10 or 15 in other trades

Adelaide and Melbourne both have pick 15...

  4. I don't think we will get Dangerfield. Therefore...

Pick 3 to Sydney for Mitchell and their first round pick (approx. 18), and second round pick (approx. 36).

On-trade pick 18 and pick 36 to GWS for Greene and Frost.

We keep our 3rd round pick for Stretch. I just can't see anyone bidding on him prior to our 2nd rounder.

Edit - re Swans trade, maybe an agreement between a couple of old mates allowing Malceski to be delisted, thus coming to us as a delisted free agent.

Sydney is going to lock in its first round pick for Isaac Henney (zone selection) so it won't be up for trade

  5. AFL.com has an article with Buck's saying he has met with Mitch and he would love to have him on board and confirms that Mitch wants and needs a fresh start, doctor's orders apparently! Also confirms Hertier wants out so there could be a straight swap?

Just send him to the draft. MFC needs to make a stand. Compensation from Pies will be terrible anyway!

  6. Good news, but isn't there any unwritten rule in coaching contracts that a club will release them to go onto a senior gig? If this was done before Sando was sacked he still may go to the crows.. Surely not though!!

  7. I might be biased but seems like a very high price to pay. Would hope they would send their first rounder back to us if that eventuated.

    Danger, Pick 10 --> Demons

    Pick 2&3 --> Crows

Depends how the crows sees this draft really and if pick 3 is any better than pick 10. It's probably too far weighted in our favour actually. Maybe give them our second rounder as well.

    IN: Danger, Pick 10,

    OUT: Pick 2, Pick 3, Pick 21

Hmmm, still don't think they would be happy. I just want to see us still have a selection in the 1st rounder to keep bringing in quality young talent.

    I'd be happy with:

    In: Dangerfield, Pick 10, Lyons

Out: Pick 2, Pick 3, Tapscott + a sweetener i.e. Blease or steak knifes?

Think if we could hold on to pick 10 and 21 and Billy Stretch at 3rd rounder then we are still in a good position for the draft.

  8. "Clark will remain on the Demons' list for 2014 before being delisted at the end of the year" - http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-04-08/demon-clark-retires

If it is true that there is a slight chance of him wanting to play football anywhere we MUST keep him on our list.

If he chooses to play on with Melbourne, fantastic. If he chooses to leave, he can be traded for whatever we can salvage. If he publically announces that he is retired for good, only THEN should we delist him.

If we delist him on the 31st of October (as we are expected to) and he then decides to play on elsewhere we not gain any compensation for him.

  9. Mitchell would be in our top 5 players.

The kid is just a superstar, I'd gladly part with a first rounder - but that wouldn't nearly get it done.

I agree. His value just went up as well with his performance against Richmond. 29 disposals, 8 marks, 13 tackles and 138 dream team points (second highest on ground).

What would we need to part with for Sydney to consider a trade?

  10. Did anyone else think that our match with North was a much more enjoyable brand of football than previous weeks?

I'd much rather see us kick 14 goals and lose by 30 points instead of kick 4 and keep the opposition to a lower score as well.

  11. if we get pick 3 for the Chip compo we might grab both Petracca and Brayshaw

Hope we dont trade either pick

I'm the opposite. I hope we trade both away. 1 for a Dom Tyson kind of deal which sees a lower first round pick to come back in which could be used on Lavarde, Duggan, Ahern etc. and another to be used on trying to get a ready-made player from another club.

  12. Anyone know much about Tom's brother Oscar McDonald?

    Got this from Knightmare's phantom.

#55 Sydney - Oscar McDonald (VIC – KPD)

    Height: 196cm, Weight: 88kg, DOB: 18/03/1996

    Recruited from: North Ballarat

    Range: 30-rookie

Profile: Key defender, brother of Melbourne’s Tom.

From the Bound For Glory phantom draft.

Pick 57: Melbourne – Oscar McDonald

    Position: Key defender/forward

Height: 196 cm, Weight: 88 kg, DOB: 18/03/1996

    Club: North Ballarat

    Projected draft range 50-rookie

    Player comparison: Jackson Trengove

Oscar McDonald is one of the better key defenders I am really bullish about in terms of advancing to the next level. He is tall and athletic, and also picks off numerous forward 50 entries with his tremendous ability to take intercept marks and rebound strongly. Best described as a general in defence, McDonald – the younger brother of Melbourne’s Tom – is extremely versatile as a defender, and, unlike most key defenders, he loves to back himself and use the ball by foot. He hits the ball flat and hard, and has a really nice turn of foot, being deceptively quick over his first few steps. The Rebels have also used him as a key forward, and he’s shown he can be just as damaging at both ends. He has a fantastic leap, strong hands, a really good work rate and rarely ever goes to ground.

  13. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/afl-concedes-melbourne-could-receive-priority-pick-and-if-loses-james-frawley-could-have-top-three-draft-selections/story-fni5f91a-1226879331080

"AFL football operations manager Mark Evans would not debate hypotheticals, but indicated a special assistance selection, if awarded, would not fall in the first round."

Don't think it'll be pick 1, a small chance of a pick following where we finish so pick 3, and more likely a second round pick (IF WE EVEN GET ONE!!)

  14. I wonder whether those wanting us to punt on O'Rourke what their thoughts are on Toumpas.

If a deal with O'Rourke can be done which doesn't cost MFC too dearly in picks I would definitely take a punt. I don't think we should have taken Toumpas at pick 4 IMO. That does not mean I would now use our current pick 4 on O'Rourke without something else coming back to MFC. Its the potential value for what you give up, so its not really comparable. I think we went overs for Toumpas but if we can get a good deal done then i think O'Rourke is worth the gamble.

  15. Probably a second rounder, wouldn't get near our high picks unless we got another top 10 pick back and even then I would be very hesitant

but I do rate him as a player, just need to see a bit more before he is worth a big investment

Perhaps another Dom Tyson kind of trade where by we trade our pick 4 (Frawley compensation pick hopefully) for O'Rourke and a pick in the 7-10 bracket? Possibly with a swap of later picks in our favour?

Just wondering if now if the time to get him before he improves and value rockets. Obviously that may never happen (story of MFC's life)

  16. Well beaten today in a truly ugly game. Our slow ball movement and almost complete lack of forward pressure was bad. 3 goals in a full game in perfect conditions is unacceptable. Colingwood learned from other clubs mistakes and did not blaze away at goal against us. Far too many times they went back upfield to find a free player in range. Missed critical opportunities and some dodgy umpiring set us back from making any meaningful challenge in the second half. Our worst game since WC.

Agree completely, was a disgraceful game. Absolutely no presence up forward and all players were afraid to have a shot so ended up chipping it around until it was turned over. Very disappointed.
