  1. Where is Ratts coaching now? Don't feel sorry for him, he looks like a genius next to everyone's crazy old uncle Mick.

What I enjoy the most is the pleading from the club preseason for members, next year will be worse for them to attract members hahahah a suck it Carltank. Gibbs and Murphy are pox, big Kruz can't get on the park and they dishes off the best fwds they had.

I would assume the AFL will give them a hand as they wouldn't want one of the "big" clubs to struggle for too long.

Where do you think? Hawthorn of course! Might be a better coach than they gave him credit for.

  2. Interesting he has been omitted.. I wonder if it's form or a bit of a lesson because he refuses to sign

I think it's fair enough if they have dropped him because he's leaving.. Why should a club put games into his development for him to leave at the end of the year?

Should we do the same with Howe if the club thinks he's going to move at the end of the year?

Yes, if we find ourselves at a point where it is statistically impossible to make finals (I already know it is highly likely) and we know Howe is going, he should be dropped to give experience to the person who will take his role when he leaves.

  3. So your rating the Mitch Clark comeback a success after his one game ?

Maybe 6 six goals in a NAB challenge game doesn't indicate he is back to you, it does for me.

Maybe kicking 3 goals out of your teams 8 total for a game against one of the best defences in the competition doesn't indicate he is back to you, it does for me.

Geelong would consider his comeback a success. No doubt about it. In saying that I'm glad we got HL, but would rather it not have been at the expense of Clarke.

  4. Am I correct in that he still isn't walking? i.e. moonboot/scooter?

If correct that leaves him 6 months (end of September) to get up and running to the point where the club believes his foot will hold up.

The fact that he is saying "oh won't play this year, not worth pushing for the last couple of games" suggests that his progress track means he'll be running mid year and theoretically able to play by the end of the year.

Hopefully he can have a good hard block of training in September that convinces everyone his foot will make it back.

Out of the boot and has started walking.

  5. Trengrove officially rules himself out of 2015. Link below:

    http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-04-09/trengove-looks-to-2016

As much as I like to think Melbourne has stopped making stupid trade decisions, I have a horrible feeling that we will move him on for a packet of chips at the end of the season, for him to then be revitalised and return in great form for another team.

I hope like hell we sign him on for another year to give him a chance to play AFL standard footy again, even if it is on the rookie list. Unfortunately, I see Mitch Clark 2.0.

  6. happy april fools?

Unfortunately not. Only heard that talks were knocked back, reason could be as mentioned that he wants to show how good he is to earn a better deal or perhaps look elsewhere (I hear Hawks have a bottomless salary cap?).

However; I did hear some good news today from a guy who knows Colin Garland cousin who said he loves the dees and wants to stay (only about 4 degrees of separation there!!)

  7. Cup half empty is we never see what could of been as his foot will never heal.

Cup half full is that two former number 2 draft picks explode out of the blocks next year showing everyone why the were rated so highly.

  8. Was this right after he started at the club? his improvement in both of those area's from what i have seen has been huge, he looked to me to have seriously trimmed down and picked up his running alot over the pre season.

Actually it was only last week after the knee injury. I also agree he seems to definitely have improved his running but apparently it was still not up 4 full quarters of afl footy. The official seemed adamant that if he managed to play 6 games this year he would have done extremely well.

On the other hand I may have only been told this so that it softened the blow... Just passing on my news.

  9. Hey guys, bumped into a melbourne official the other day who gave me some information regarding Petracca. He told me the club was actually disappointed with his skin folds and fitness level and were expecting no more than 6 games out of him for the season. Whilst I'm still devastated that he is injured it seems that his impact this season was going to be rather minimal. Hoping he can bounce back strongly for 2016!

  10. Firstly, if he was downgraded to a rookie i presume it would be at his contracted $ amount

I dont know what the rookie earns next year but it is going up to $57K in 2016. I would presume Evans would be on $100K. (I would assume all players on the senior list and are not 1st or 2nd year draftees are on $100K plus).

Do country leagues pay $100K a year to play footy ?

No but if he was delisted he would receive next years money regardless of whether he is on the rookie list or not. This means he would be able to be paid to play elsewhere, and still receive payments from MFC.

  11. But if indeed we are only going to use picks 2 and 3 and not another selection, then it will be because our primary list is full (including Sam Frost). That does mean we gave up pick 23 for Frost which is the opportunity cost foregone to secure the player.

I don't know enough about Frost and time will tell in the long run whether it's a good deal or not but I have no doubt that there is every likelihood that a midfielder of some worth and potential is thereabouts at 40.

    Again, time will tell.

Opportunity cost, I feel like I'm back in economics!!

  12. Speaking to a mate who knows Stephen Wells I'm told he is very confident and comfortable the Cats will find 3 players with picks 47, 55 and 60.

My mate tells me it is a very even draft and possibly a bit deeper than some are saying. You could throw a blanket over picks 15-60 and there won't be much talent separating a player picked at 20 and a player picked at 50.

When I cursed about how we hold onto spuds like Evans, McKenzie, Terlich and Bail and as a result might possibly forego pick 40 and 53 he shook his head as well.

I'd leave Bail out of that mix, he played most games this year and contributed well. I am glad the club resigned him. Terlich, Evans and McKenzie on the other hand I am not so sure about.

  13. Disagree. He is a professional. He knows he will probably not play this year. Possibly not again. He has a substantial contract. We will honour it as we did this year.. Where does it say we have to keep him on the senior list to show loyalty. If we rookie him and pay his contract we show loyalty. We take the pressure off him as well. If he recovers, we upgrade him and new contract. End of story.

We are supposed to be a professional football club. A professional club would IMO act as I have outlined. I am pretty sure JT would agree. We are not a creche.

How is doing what I said disadvantageous to JT, or the club? He will have our full support during rehab, without the burden of expectation.

At the same time another player will be given a chance to have an AFL career.

I'd personally do the opposite. I'd place 2 of Evans, McKenzie or Hunt (just because he is a thinner frame and doesn't appear to be nearing afl game time) on the rookie list and place JT on the long term injury list. That way, all rookie list players know that while JT is injured, there is a spot on the list to play for. Hopefully achieve another Jetta break though.

  14. I think given the contracts thread accuracy, there will be plenty out of contract next year.

I refuse to believe there are not players available at 40 and 53 who are better than Tapscott, Evans and a non playing JT.

I cannot believe the club would not use 2 picks in the 3rd round of a ND when it has only 2 picks before them.

I am sure we will see some movement in the next 2 weeks.

Tapscott has been delisted so we have 3 live picks in the draft being 2, 3 and 40 at this stage.

  15. Just in regards to those saying McCartin is only an old-school key forward, I highly recommend reading the following from the AFL website's going places.

With teammate Dylan Hodge's ankle injury restricting him to deep in attack, McCartin played a new role, roaming further up the ground and took 11 marks.

He's heard people question whether he is one-dimensional, and whether he would stand up to the aerobic rigours of back-and-forth modern football at the top level. He thinks he answered those queries.

"I feel people might pigeonhole me as an old-school key forward who doesn't move outside the 50," McCartin says.

"But when I get a chance to play up the ground I usually do it pretty well. It's more been about opportunities. That's been my role to play as a deeper forward and make a contest a bit deeper.

"I'm not too bad about going up the ground," he says.

"That game gave people a look to see that I can do it, it's just that the opportunity hasn't been there.

"It can be a bit annoying that I feel confident in my own ability, but I'm not really worried about what anyone thinks, apart from the team I'm playing for."

  17. The lad has a very strong legs and runs low to the ground like Sam Mitchell, Ollie Wines and Joel Selwood these attributes are important in an inside midfielder when moving thru traffic. This attributes is important when withstanding a takle and dish off the ball. The fact that he can kick with both feet makes him almost the perfect inside midfielder. With some experience and good advice from his coaches I believe he will become one of the best midfielders in the game within the next 3 years.

    No pressure...
