  1. Whilst Pressure Acts might make up a stat they are also subjective as to whether the stat actually had a positive or zero effect. Just because you are chasing someone doesn't necessarily mean you are applying pressure. There might even be a case to make that that player was second to the footy and has just been chasing tail all day. I'm not suggesting that this is always the case. The points system above helps in weighting the pressure as higher the closer the player gets to the target. Whilst pressure is very important and absolutely has to be applied when you don't have the footy but I would prefer to be the ones with footy in hand.
  2. Thank you. I'm pretty sure we have discussed this in the past and even had stats and charts but my memory is a sieve these days unless it relates to random Dees players that played for 5 minutes in the late 80s and early to mid 90s.
  3. They were trying to get Clarry on for awhile but as you said the ball was on the other side of the ground for a long time. The rule limiting the times that the runner can come onto the ground costs you in those situations. The couple of runners who couldn't keep themselves out of the action really spoiled it for everyone.
  4. I’ve watched it no less than 37 times since I posted it.
  5. Depends if they were off to conserve them. Not just for this match but through a long season. No point sprinting in the first Km of the marathon.
  6. A news report of a barefoot TMac getting scan on his troublesome foot surely requires panic and attention given the wheels of our season last year fell off when he was out. The good news is that in the vision from today’s training he looks to be running very well. From about 0:58 seconds.
  7. He must have heard Viney was coming back.
  8. I saw a post on the Brisbane Big Footy board that said they heard on Brisbane sports radio that he is definitely playing. It has to be true in a Friends, Uncles, Brothers, Priest's dog kind of way.
  9. ^^^^^^ Just as aside to the above clip. How the hell was the kick from Kozzy to Spargo not 15m and called play on when all night the Bulldogs were chipping the ball 5 to 7 meters and it was paid a mark.
  10. On top of his rucking abilities and his new found forward prowess this is a another huge benefit of having Brodie Grundy in the team.
  11. Here are the stats I used on the show to highlight that period where we took back control of the match and put the Bulldogs to the sword. I believe this coincided with Clarry coming back on the ground fresh.
  12. As long as there is no structural damage or the danger of more damage by him just load baring and playing a game of footy then yes he absolutely needs to play to make up for the scoring void left by Kozzy.
  13. We did talk a bit about Clarry spending a chunk of time on the bench in the 2nd quarter and his return fresh coincided with our wrestling control back and putting the pedal down.
  14. I reckon the only certainty is Viney - 100%. Salem will most likely need to come back though Casey for match conditioning and his replacements are doing a fine job 0%. You would think that they are going to be conservative with May given his age profile, the long season & 3 interstate games in 4 weeks 30% (could be higher). Fritsch is a total unknown in my book 50%
  15. We have made the decision, previously expressed, that there is to be no discussion on this website about the Ex President, Glen Bartlett, or any allegations against the Club Coach, Simon Goodwin, whilst they are based on allegations that are unproven. We simply do not wish to go into areas that could expose the site, our posters, our coach or the club in the circumstances where litigation is pending. Please understand and respect this position. If have a post or topic deleted, please be assured that it was deleted for a reason. This goes for all topics or posts that we deem may cross the line. If we are going to err it will be on the side of caution. Our site was established to provide information and support about and for the Melbourne Football Club, its players, coaches and staff and that is where we stand.
  16. They should spend the extra money they are making on the exorbitant food and beverage prices on fixing the drip line.
  17. There is a website called https://aviewfrommyseat.com/ and you can put in your bay number and if someone has taken a photo from that seat and uploaded it you can see the view and sometimes tell if it's undercover. This is the view from Row BB in Bay M52. It looks like it might be undercover but you also have to factor in wind and sometimes the rain can angle it's way in. https://aviewfrommyseat.com/photo/133830/Melbourne+Cricket+Ground/section-M52/row-BB/seat-5/ This one is Row FF in M48 so your row is 4 rows in front. Might just be undercover but can't be 100% sure. https://aviewfrommyseat.com/photo/170132/Melbourne+Cricket+Ground/section-M48/row-FF/seat-13/ Best bet is perhaps to call the MCG and maybe you'll get someone helpful that can tell you for sure. Hopefully someone on here who sits there or thereabouts can confirm.
  18. The AFL served up an interesting fixture for the Melbourne Football Club this year with a tough opening trio of games against teams that won their last up meetings. True, we’re supposed to take things one week at a time, but it’s useful to look at this three match bloc of matches as a launching pad for the season ahead. Thanks to a masterful display in Round 1 against the Western Bulldogs, it’s one down and two to go in terms of the three game opening sequence. In the words of one media scribe, “the Demons can now seek revenge for their September defeats to Brisbane and Sydney in the next fortnight.” However, it’s not really about seeking revenge at this stage of the season — the call to emotions can wait until much later, if at all. For the moment, it’s about being switched on and about building and moving forward to set up the season. Melbourne did exactly that in both 2021 and 2022 when it won the first nine and ten matches respectively but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The task this week is to beat the Brisbane Lions on their home turf which is something that very few teams other than Melbourne have been able to accomplish in recent seasons. This time, Brisbane is coming off a humiliating loss against Port Adelaide and facing a potentially disastrous 0-2 start for the year. They were atrocious against the Power in Adelaide after coming into the season as one of the flag favourites having recruited strongly gaining Dunkley, Gunston and highly rated leading draft selection Will Ashcroft. But the Demons must be wary because it wasn’t all that long ago that the Lions turned the tables on them in a semi final soon after putting in a pitiful display against them in last year’s final home and away round. And there’s no reason to be complacent because Melbourne goes into this match without Kozzie Pickett who starred in his new role that allowed him to play extended time in the midfield while also causing havoc when resting forward. Pickett was rightly described as the momentum swinger last week. That attack on Bailey Smith which put him on his backside offended the bounds of legal tackling and earned him a two week holiday but it paved the way for five unanswered goals, restored the lead and left the Bulldogs shell shocked for the remainder of the game. I’m not condoning the action, nor am I detracting from the efforts of Max Gawn, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Jake Lever in the eventual 50-point smashing of the Dogs. Just saying that Kozzie was the catalyst and the game changer. Someone else will have to come in and fill the hole left by Kozzie over the coming fortnight - possibly one or more of the four premiership players who were still on the injured list at the weekend but have now been declared as “available” for selection. Jack Viney would be a handy replacement to ensure the Lions players are on their toes. He is just the man to emulate Kozzie’s seven tackles inside 50 and eight altogether. And Bayley Fritsch would be handy in covering the yawning great hole of four missing goals due to Kozzie’s absence. Melbourne’s defence held up well last week with Adam Tomlinson playing a steady role reminiscent of two years ago before he suffered his ACL injury. The question is how to fit one of the competition’s top key defenders in Steven May into the mix. While the mantra at the club has always been an emphasis on strong team defence, a feature of the preseason and the opening round has been defending territory up near goals. They held sway by 21 to nine inside 50 tackles and took 17 to seven inside 50 marks last week. That means a determined effort to cover one of last year’s weaknesses and to improve the team’s performance in front of the goals. Which brings us back to the home side. Surely, they will be determined to serve up better than last week’s insipid performance in front of their home crowd? Are they capable of rising up to perform at their best against one of the hottest outfits in the competition? The evidence suggests that it won’t be easy for them because the irrepressible Demons are too switched on for the Lions at this early stage of the journey. Melbourne to win by 35 points. 19. Of course he does. He has a Premiership medal and was an important cog in the machine that enabled us to finish on top of the ladder. Traditionalists may disagree but players like Jayden Hunt were very important to the success of the team that year too. I'm not suggesting that they all get medals or be called premiership players but they were important parts of a very successful team.
