Damien Barrett mentioned it when he and Wallace were ranting about the Freo and Bell Amateur Show. He interrupted the show and said something to the effect of "we've just been told that Melbourne would have taken 5 & 23 and not the 2 first rounders. Not 100% sure there is a direct quote but the way they put it it was as if it had come from the club.

Didn't we come out and say we would have taken 5 & 23 had Freo not pulled the pin on Friday? If Negotiations resume I can't see us now demanding 5 & 14 (as much as us supporters would love that). I'm not sure it was a smart idea for us to make that 5&23 claim in response to Bell's public tantrum. We probably did it to look like the sane and reasonable ones but it now might have damaged our position by showing our hand.

If he's leaving then I would love for this to happen as long as we land May and a pick around the same as we would have got from Freo.

And I don't think there would be any ill feelings from the club or the boys. The Dees and us just want fair compensation so we can improve our list. I'm positive that Freo still want him, warts and all. They just want their cake and to eat it too. The Weller deal last year has them thinking that you can always get away with murder at the trade table.

This isn't about them not wanting Jesse all of a sudden. It's about getting something for nothing. I wish we could go dodgy eBay seller on them and give them their win by accepting the second rounders but then send them one of those blow up Jesse dolls and then not return their emails.

If there is any truth to the GCS rumour we'll get there before tea on Monday.

I like your optimism but care to explain how this is possible without the Jesse deal landing a low pick?

We will not be adding May now unless you can find a low first round pick lying around.

I'll also add that it seems he really wants out and will probably be swooped up by someone else in this trade period despite seeming to want to come to us. Given our poor pick status we just aren't in the hunt now.

He's still a contracted player. Same situation as Jesse at the moment. The difference is May is a free agent next year so we can pinch him for free then if he's still available and we're still interested and he still wants to come to us.

I can't wait to screw them over when making a play for Andrew Brayshaw in a couple of years.

Fair enough but do we really want another year out of the race for topping up on young talent.
