  1. He is still there at the bottom of the list. Did you mean Tim Smith?
  2. According to the Herald Sun today this is our current injury list. MELBOURNE INJURY LIST Jack Viney (foot) Jordan Lewis (calf) Dom Tyson (calf) Jeff Garlett (rib) Dean Kent (shoulder) Aaron vandenBerg (foot) Joel Smith (left) Jordan Lewis will miss Thursday’s night clash with St Kilda at Casey Fields as he battles a calf issue. The former Hawk suffered a minor strain in his team’s first JLT clash over North Melbourne. “Scans have shown a minor strain and at this stage we won’t take any risks during this period and he won’t play JLT two,” Demons footy boss Josh Mahoney said. “But we’re confident he’ll be available for round one, as he’s done a full pre-season, has got a lot of confidence in his legs and he’s an experienced player.” The Dees are hopeful Jack Viney will be fit to face the Cats in Round 1, while Dom Tyson will be assessed before the club decides whether he’ll play the Saints. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/more-news/collingwood-to-miss-host-of-big-names-for-opening-jlt-series-clash/news-story/364f74292badef582535bc48c0fd5e63 Pat McKenna always gets forgotten. Anyone else need to be added to this list? Opposition Watch for JLT #2: ST KILDA INJURY LIST Jack Billings (hamstring) Nathan Freeman (hamstring) Jimmy Webster (hip) Saints fans will hope to see Jack Billings in the club’s second JLT clash on Thursday night. St Kida faces Melbourne at Casey Fields and Alan Richardson’s team will hope to hit back after an ordinary first-up outing against Carlton. Jarryn Geary sat out much of his side’s loss to the Blues on Wednesday night, but there weren’t any other concerns for the Saints. Just three first-choice St Kilda players weren’t available for the Blues clash. Nathan Freeman’s latest hamstring setback will see him put on ice for some time. Paddy McCartin and David Armitage made impressive returns to footy at Ikon Park last week, while top draft picks Hunter Clark and Nick Coffield also impressed coach Alan Richardson. Opposition Watch for Round 1: GEELONG INJURY LIST Gary Ablett (hamstring) Scott Selwood (ankle) Patrick Dangerfield (sore back) Lachie Henderson (knee) Lincoln McCarthy (groin/hip) Tim Kelly (leg) Youngster Tim Kelly firmed for a Round 1 debut after an impressive display against the Suns, although he will be sore this week after copping a knock to the knee. Cats assistant Matthew Knights wasn’t worried about the injury, declaring after the game Kelly could have played out the match. The Cats fielded an inexperienced team that was without Patrick Dangerfield, Joel Selwood, Gary Ablett and Harry Taylor. Of that quartet, only Ablett is doubtful for Geelong’s second JLT match against Essendon this Sunday. Lachie Henderson and Scott Selwood are still recovering from their respective injuries. However, mature-aged rookie Stewart Crameri is a chance to play his former club, and Brandan Parfitt is also in the mix.
  3. We are blessed to have Max at the club. His popularity transcends the MFC and he would be just as popular at a mixed team event with opposition fans. I can't remember having such a widely popular player in the modern era. Jimmy perhaps.
  4. I never realised I could actually leave. I wonder if my resulting absence would have changed any of the results. Now we'll never know. I would love to be able to watch Casey play before the game even if only a couple of times a year. I still maintain they should have played the women's competition in it's first few years as curtain raisers.
  5. I think it was disappointing that there were no rides there. I promised my 9 year old that there would be rides. Not sure I will be able to get her to go next year without rides. I agree with what someone said earlier that there should be an autograph station where select players are at a table and you only need to line up once. Queues are not kid friendly and if you have to queue up for 10 players each the waiting adds up. I think that having the players at the head of the line for activities is a great idea too.
  6. I'm sure it will be a case of Club X comes out 1:53 and Club Y comes out at 1:56.
  7. Yes. I believe the Bulldogs pioneered this. I can't remember if it was controversial at the time but all clubs soon followed suit. I think it makes sense to do some warmup out on the field but I understand that if they are going to play curtain raisers or have some real entertainment then they will have to warmup indoors. However I have a feeling that for the majority of the year we'll be watching grass grow.
  8. One of the reasons for this to accommodate curtain raisers to some matches which could be a good thing. I like the pre-game warmup because I am conducting an unscientific study on the correlation between warmup kicking for goals and the in-game goal kicking to see if the warmup is an accurate guage. Results so far are inconclusive.
  9. https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/exclusive-the-afl-will-end-pregame-warmups-as-part-of-sweeping-set-of-2018-rule-changes/news-story/71132639d8d87162bc2952b4a74398d2 Clubs will no longer be able to warm-up as a team on the ground other than briefly before the first bounce. Clubs generally completed a 15-minute warm-up on the field 25 to 40 minutes out from the first bounce, went back into the rooms and then re-entered the arena for a final kick before the match commenced. Now they will need to enter the arena 11 minutes before the start of the game. The away club must enter three minutes earlier than the home team. Among other changes: — Clubs will now be required to list four emergency players, up from three. Part of the reason for this change is to accommodate the possibility of a ruckman getting injured in the warm-up. The position is more specialised than ever and four emergencies allows coaches more flexibility and insurance. — Four emergencies will essentially allow clubs to have a reserve player for each of the four positions on the ground and should completely eliminate the possibility of a player outside the selected squad parachuting into the starting team at the last minute. Players must cease kicking for goal in warm-ups five minutes before the first bounce, as opposed to three minutes. Given home teams will enter the arena 11 minutes before play begins, that leaves just six minutes for forwards to practise goalkicking and get an accurate gauge on conditions. — Approval may be sought for players listed on the long-term injury list to be seated on the club interchange bench during matches, providing the player is listed on the official team sheet as one of the 26 match officials. — The pre-match warning siren, which ran three minutes before the first bounce, has been removed. It has been replaced by the following sequence: 1. Umpires enter the arena (1 siren) 2. 5 minutes prior to match start (1 siren) 3. 2 minutes prior to match start (2 sirens) 4. 1 minute prior to match start (1 siren)

  11. After last week’s horror defeat at the hands of bottom of the ladder Collingwood in Alice Springs, Melbourne turned its season around last night with a heart-thumping six point victory over Brisbane at Casey Fields. The result came after selectors swung the axe in response to last week’s showing and the fact that this was yet another six day break after a fortnight on the road. The Demons were inspired by a return to form by skipper Daisy Pearce who led the charge with two goals as her team opened proceedings with a now familiar early domination that has seen the opposition kept scoreless in the first quarter for three weeks in a row. The inside 50 advantage at that stage was 11 to 3 in Melbourne’s favour. Predictably, it was the home side’s inaccuracy in front of goal that kept the second placed Lions in the hunt. By half time, the Dees led by just 11 points despite having 80% of the scoring shots and dominating most of the game’s statistics. Brisbane was not to be denied and kept coming back hard after the main break thanks to Sabrina Frederick-Traub whose banana kick for goal reduced Melbourne's lead to just six points halfway through the third quarter. Tegan Cunningham returned the compliment with a goal of her own to put the Demons in a strong position at the final break. Not long after, Cunningham suffered a nasty collision with an opponent and consequently played no further art in the game. Brisbane played its best football of the evening in the last quarter, reversing Melbourne’s forward dominance but strong defence in the end ensured that the club song would be sung on the final siren. The strength of the team was the team’s leading trio of Karen Paxman (24), Elise O'Dea and Daisy (23 each) who dominated the disposal count with Kate Hore, the heroin with the team’s only final quarter score - a goal out of a pack midway through the term. Frederick-Traub put the visitor’s back in with a chance after seeming to push her opponent out of a ruck contest near goal, but time ran out for the visitors who finished a six points in arrears as the Demons pressed home their finals prospects after a heavy week of introspection. They have a break of eight days before facing the Blues at Ikon Park in the penultimate round on Sunday week. 14. As far as we know, the above applies. Because the games are slotted for midday, KC is not available to report so reports are welcome from anyone who goes out tomorrow or to any of the other practice matches.
  15. I don't think we'll see the AFL say that all AFL players must start wearing helmets tomorrow. It will gradually happen very slowly over time. It's more like that it will start at the grass roots. First it will be compulsory for juniors to wear it and as they grow up they will still be required to wear them. And when they are all "grown up" they will have been wearing them their whole "careers" and the rule will follow them.
  16. Do you think helmets will become compulsory in the AFL? Should they be compulsory? Do you think Gus will ever play without one again?
  17. Found this online but I'd call to check before heading down. https://www.view.co.uk/london/lists/r/bars-to-watch-afl-in-london

  19. Hopefully he can answer your question here. @Drunkn167 We'll definitely have him on again.
  20. Which Rookie do you think will see some action early in 2018? MELBOURNE Tim Smith’s debut season as a 26-year-old was cut short by injury after two games. Corey Maynard is an inside midfielder who will push hard for games. Declan Keilty, 21, is a key tall learning the craft. We spoke with Demonland poster @Drunkn167 who is Declan Keilty's brother on the Demonland Podcast. Check out who he thought would see action in 2018: https://soundcloud.com/user-967419456/podcast-0029-28-february-2018
