Hutchy is at it again. When will The Age leave us alone. The storey in yesterdays Age says we are going to make a loss. Can the club take action against this.

It cant be true. The AFL gave us over a million dollars. I know its been a tough year but it cant be that bad.

I just finished an Audit of a Victorian AFL Club who I am permitted to mention but will not. I reviewed the contract the AFL has with each club, each club gets a WHOLE lot of money from the AFL a lot more than just one million, you would be amazed to see how much.

There is a possibility we would run at a loss, I reviewed a game that was played against Melbourne and next to no money is made from them. I wouldnt be too concerned if we run at a loss we arent the only ones & with the AFL rights well after seeing the figures we can breathe easy soon

must've been interesting. out of interest the reason i believe the clubs get money from the afl is because they get all the profits. television rights, league sponsorships, tribunal fines, the list goes on. all this money goes into afl coffers. the afl spends what it has to on staff and the brand (advertising), etc etc and the rest goes back into the clubs. i believe it should be equal but im not sure about that...

Was very interesting. No your right the clubs do get an equal distribution every month from the AFL of a bucketload of money. Clubs like Nort Melb & Melb also get special distributions for different things such as assistance & re-development of premises. The AFL also looks after the finances of Melb, North Melb & Bulldogs as they arent big enough to look after themselves. Teams such as Essendon who are raking in the money from other investments and their businesses look after their finances in house. What was also interesting was the bucketload of $$$ umpires get per game, if anyone is looking for a career change get on it I say.

If you are not going to mention the name then why would you brag about being permitted to mention their name?

FWIW, take out Essendon and Collingwood and every club would be borderline basketcase or a basketcase financially.

For some clubs like Kangas, Dogs and MFC, the accounts only break even due to extra AFL funds.

As part of its rich TV deal, the AFL must deliver 16 clubs playing 8 games a round. The Clubs share that largesse. TO provide some form of equilibrium, battling Clubs get extra funds.

Its hardly ground breaking stating that we would make a loss.

I would hardly call it bragging thankyou. I value my job & there would prob be questions to follow about their status etc if I mentioned which club which I am unable to answer.

I believe everything you said I did already but thanks!

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
