Questions for the Medicos

Ricky Petterd was operated on Thursday and, according to afl.com.au, the surgeons discovered that it was a cyst that caused his collapsed lung.

My question are:-

1) Aside from on the day when he suffered the injury, would the presence of the cyst have affected his health and his ability to play at his best before the incident?

2) What are the chances of a full recovery and the ability to play to 100% following the surgery?

In the same article it mentions that on Thursday Jared Rivers also underwent surgery to have a chronically-torn and degenerative abductor tendon repaired.

Similarly, what are his chances of a full recovery?

I have a medico friend & we were talking about Petterd the other day.

He concluded that prior to the incident, he was asymptomatic. Prognosis is good (100% recovery).

Not so sure about Rivers, would need to know the extent of the damage, but we speculate he will make a full recovery, albeit slow. We assume thats why he's being knifed now.

My question are:-

1) Aside from on the day when he suffered the injury, would the presence of the cyst have affected his health and his ability to play at his best before the incident? No, not at all. He would have been 100% unaffected.

2) What are the chances of a full recovery and the ability to play to 100% following the surgery? This surgery will not have any impact on his health or his AFL career. Once recovered, it will be as if nothing ever happened

In the same article it mentions that on Thursday Jared Rivers also underwent surgery to have a chronically-torn and degenerative abductor tendon repaired.

Similarly, what are his chances of a full recovery? This is not good news. Either Jared will be forced to retire early, or he could have a full career but will never be the player he promised to be. He will lose explosiveness and his leap will be dimnished. But he will still be good enough to be a 200 game player

There you go. Thank me later.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.
