I have never said that is what our club (or clubs) or some within those clubs are thinking. Although having said that, what's to say there aren't a few that do so. You would have to be quite naive to think that everyone is on exactly the same 'hell bent' path to leave no stone unturned every single match of every season they get to play. Partly why some players excel where some may struggle (talent / luck with injuries aside).

Regardless of what they think, what the fans do in terms of boycottimg or not, would not influence what most within the club are aiming to achieve each day / week.

The $$ keep flowing regardless if they are seeking to win flags or just coast along as you say.

The fans are just there to make stadiums appear to be full or as full as possible for the AFL authorised / preferred broadcasters' headlines, sound bites & promos.

The entire pre-game / in game and post game show is now fully transferable & pretty much identical regardless of which two clubs and colours are on show now and all clubs are pretty much on the same budget.

It would be very naive to think that any employee out there goes to work with the same level of commitment and/or passion. That even applies to our own workplaces.

We know it too well when some of our co-workers are just "coasting" and are just happy to collect the money every month.

At the end of the day it's a personal decision, and every mind is a different world.

There's a difference between wanting success and doing the hard work required to achieve it.

Yep! And if staff or players just hope to succeed they probably should be moved on. (BTW that wasn't my main point)

This still exists, but time is also our rarest commodity.

Which is why we must use it to experience all of life's rich tapestry. Ups and Downs.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
