dont you think thats a bit ridiculous? and as i said, do they distinguish all the above cases, included touched play on calls when the balls in the air from a marking contest?

I think its incredibly ridiculous. Combined with the brutal current interpretations of holding the ball, the AFL is turning the game into glorified basketball one rule at a time.

Damian Drum wrote an excellent article in the weekend paper suggesting these two rule changes (plus toughening up of deliberate out-of-bounds) have contributed to the growing use of flooding as a defensive measure because defenders don't have a chance anymore to defend in man-on-man contests or force stoppages by seeking ball-ups or throw-ins.
