Australia get a 2nd win in the day in the 3x3 Basketball, knocking off USA 17-15! Takes them to 3-1 so far with 3 more games to come.

Here's hoping the Opals can draw inspiration re coming back from a slow start to the tournament.

Yes, our Women's 3 x 3 Basketball team are now in a position to push for an automatic Semi Final Berth

Need to finish 1st or 2nd in the 8 team pool (the only pool) but 3rd overall to 6th overall qualify for the play-in matches (to fill the other 2 Semi Final berths)  We play Azerbaijan, France and top team, Spain, in our remaining pool matches

As for our medal chances through to the morning, our Women's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay team is a big show whilst Elizabeth Dekkers is a medal chance in the 200m Butterfly

And the Opal's look like getting the much needed win against Canada

Well done to the Opals on the bounce back win, 70-65 over Canada. Still a few issues for them to tidy up, but Canada are a good team, so they should take that win.

They've done it again the Sharks! Another huge upset, this time over France 9-8. With two wins out of three, they're almost guaranteed of getting through to the Quarter Finals.

Payback on Canada today continues with Mariafe/Clancy getting a straight sets win 21-10, 21-16. That assures them of a spot in the elimination Round of 16.

It was the girls best performance so far. Canada made some mistakes, especially in the first set, but the girls have improved each match so far.

In great news the Hockeyroos have drawn with Argentina 3-3 after trailing 0-2 and then again at 2-3. This draw means a win over Spain in their final match (which they should do) almost guarantees them top spot in their group unless Argentina absolutely demolish Great Britain in their final match.

Gold to Australia and the 4x200m Freestyle Relay team! It was close for a while, but when Titmus was last in the pool, they were never going to lose.

4 wins on the trot for our 3x3 Basketball team with a 21-12 victory over Azerbaijan. Still two games to go, but if they keep up this form, they should be good for a Semi Final birth.

Win streak comes to an end for our 3x3 team, going down 17-21 to Spain. Brave effort as they had no sub with Mansfield being injured. Hopefully she's right for their match against France tomorrow and a win can still get a top 2 spot.

Best medal chances tonight

Grae Morris in the Sailing Men's Windsurfer Final

Cameron McEvoy - 50m Freestyle Final

Kaylee McKeown - 200m Backstroke Final

And our BMX riders have medal chances if they can advance to the Women's & Men's Finals

Disappointing loss for the Kookaburras 2-3 to India, their first loss to India in an Olympics since 1972.

End of the day, still have a Quarter Final spot secured and it will be a tough match up, whether it's against any of Great Britain, Germany or Netherlands. Once we'd lost the game to Belgium, the easy run to a Semi Final was lost. Here's hoping they can find their form for the Knockout matches.

Stingers get another victory in the Waterpolo 10-7 over Canada. Got a little tight in the final term, but another win, and they're right in contention to top their group.

Boomers drop an important match to Greece in the Basketball. They even run the risk of missing the Quarter Finals now  pending the result of the Spain v Canada match later this evening.

Medal to Australia! Whether it's Gold or Silver is still to be determined, but Matt Ebden and John Peers have defeated the USA's Fritz/Paul in the Tennis Doubles Semi Final 7-5, 6-2 and will go for Gold tomorrow! (Tomorrow I think)

In some good news for the Boomers, Canada have beaten a fast finishing Spain in the Basketball 88-85, meaning that they should now advance to the Quarter Finals. Given their record though, every chance we could draw USA. Should find out after tomorrow.

Gold to Australia! Cam McEvoy in his 4th Olympics finally gets his first individual gold. Very happy for the guy, he really deserves it.

And we finally have a bloke get a gold medal.

More Gold to Australia! Kaylee McKeown has done the double, double defending both the 100 & 200 Backstroke from Tokyo. What an amazing achievement!

Three gold in the one night! Sakakibara in the BMX race just blew the field away. What a race!

A Golden day for the Aussies!

So far, we've got all we could have asked for, plus a number of extras!!

And winning aside, we've still got numerous chances to medal in any number of events.  Hopefully, some more Gold amongst those medals

And most, or all of our teams, are still in contention to advance

Not wrong there Macca. In fact, it's only the end of Day 7 competition, but if the Olympics were to stop right now, it would already be our 6th most successful Olympics in terms of Gold medals, already having surpassed our hauls in London 2012 & Rio 2016 (two reasonably recent games).

Only two more nights in the Pool, so will be interesting to see how much more Gold we can grab in the final week of the games when it gets to us.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
