Didn't hear him if he was on but I can imagine what he would have said based on the interviews of every other football person I've heard during this pre-season and previous ones. Yeah, doing real well, fitter than ever, confident about the coming season, can't wait for the action to start, we're a real chance and training's been the best this pre-season since I came to the club. And the signature tune... "everybody's training the house down!

What do u expect at this time of the year there meant to be talking up the team not saying "we're not training hard enough" or " I think we could repeat the dissapointing end as last year" There here to give us false hope and give us the impression we are gonna tear every1 up!! (especially carlton)

I heard it, don't remember too much, I'll see how I go

He doesn't read the papers, watch TV, etc, not really into the hype about him being the next captain (but he didn't say he didn't want to do it either). Outside footy he wants to do a plumbing apprenticeship, 'cos he was no good sitting at a desk at school. He had to give up an an apprenticeship opportunity because of footy. The 3AW guys said he probably won't need to worry about it too much.

He said he is not into talking, just doing. He thinks Demons should be be having a crack at Top 4 this year, seemed fairly bullish on this. He menitioned Batram, Bate, Jones as good up and comers and also Dunn who is working really hard. Also mentioned Rick Petterd as looking the goods.

Afterwards they were talking about him (Gerard and Dwayne) like he was the best thing since sliced bread, close to all-Australian last year and a big chance this year. They said he could be the best Dees palyer in the past 40 years - that's a big wrap.

They asked about his love life and he said he was shopping around a bit which I thought was good form.

They talked about the Pilates they do in 50 degrees and how hard it is. Suggested they could try this on Sunday at the family day as it will be super HOT. He is looking foirwad to playing footy now as training has been a slog.

That's about all I can remember. I'm sure there was more but it was more than 24 hours ago and my short term memory is shot.

Outside footy he wants to do a plumbing apprenticeship, 'cos he was no good sitting at a desk at school. He had to give up an an apprenticeship opportunity because of footy.

That's another thing I like about him - the willingness to make enormous sacrifices for his footy team ;).

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
