Rebuilding the old rivalries

I've been critical of Goodwin, overly so perhaps, and today has made me pick up a fork and start eating humble pie. The mongrel we have brought to our wins and the reaction of opposition fans (outraged offense by Carlton fans over Hogan and Lewis, Pies fans losing it over umpiring, Tommy Bugg today vs the Doggies) shows we are not a weak footy club anymore, the aggression and arrogance we are displaying week in week out is making our club a respected contender and one that opposition fans delight in beating, not a pitied also ran as in past years

I'm loving Goodwin's work, but a lot of the praise for the clubs physical style needs to go in the direction of Paul Roos.  He, along with Taylor, Viney, Mahoney, etc have always said they were looking to bring in highly competitive and tough players to the club; we're seeing that now.  While we have sometimes questioned the skill level of the players, their competitiveness has been visible over the last couple years, and they're now gaining the maturity and experience to know how to use it.

Yesterday we played tough, brutal and at times nasty football.  When we were tackling, marking, spoiling and smothering, we were trying to hurt them.  Was great to see the aggression and the Bulldogs players were thinking twice about going for the ball.

Our brand, while exciting and often attacking, is tough.  That's what stands up in September.

All I know is hes now got the runs on the board. Some interesting selections at times but he gets an A plus in every other area. This club isnt just doing well it has a pool of young talent that will only keep getting better.
