I'm pretty sure I can turn pick 107 into Ablett if you give me enough transactions.

As for finals, our 22 would look something like this under your (wildly optimistic, even by my standards) scenario:

B: Garland Frawley Terlich

HB: Grimes McDonald Kent

C: Swallow Jones Trengove

HF: Stokes Dawes Sylvia

F: Hogan Clark Watts

R: Jamar Adams Viney

I: Howe Mckenzie Toumpas Cross

It's nice to actually look at a team with a potentially functional midfield. I can actually ask questions like 'Is our forward line too top heavy and will they be able to give enough chase?' At the moment it's tough to even wonder about forward line nuances because the ball never gets down there.

Anyway, if you can make those personnel moves happen, that'd be great. Thanks, pantaloons.

My favourite time of year !

B: Garland McDonald Clisby

HB: Grimes Frawley Howe

C: Watts Jones Trengove

HF: Adams Dawes Sylvia

F: Hogan Clark ???

R: Gawn Swallow Viney

I: Cross Kent Toumpas ???

E: Terlich Dunn ??? ???

Swallow is probably unlikely, but if we could trade pick 2 for him I would.

I'm assuming we don't get a PP.

I would love to get Adams and would throw the kitchen sink at him. A tough classy mid from Geelong Falcons. Will be a gun.

I'll back Roos to possibly turn Watts into a tall, clean and fast wingman in the Isaac Smith mould.

I want Frawley to go to CHB and tell him he has a license to run through the lines and take the game on. Not at the expense of closing down his opponent, but to back his judgment.

Howe reads the play beautifully and would be a great rebounding half back. He's likely to hit the scoreboard even in the back-line. His leap means he can play tall or small. He played some good footy across half-back and I'd look to settle him there and see how he goes.

We need a classy finisher around goals, but one that can also push up into the midfield when required. I don't think they're presently on the list. I don't have confidence in Byrnes to do that anymore.

I'm hopeful Kent can develop into our Kieran Jack.

Not withstanding their top 5 B&F placings I'm doubtful Terlich and Matt Jones would be in my best team all things considered. Others won't agree.

N. Jones, Viney, Swallow, Adams, Cross, a rejuvenated Trengove, Kent, Toumpas makes for the genesis of an improved midfield. It's still a work in progress, but that midfield will have decent days where they'll be neutral with their opposition. And that gives the forwards a decent chance.

As usual I'm ever hopeful the summer period can bring great change, but even just Adams and Cross would be a decent start.

No Matt Jones? No Strauss? No Evans? Howe in the backline? Clisby in the 18 ahead of Terlich?

Not convinced by those things, but the rest would pretty similar to mine:

B: Garland McDonald Terlich

HB: Grimes Frawley Strauss

C: Watts Jones Trengove

HF: Adams Dawes Sylvia

F: Hogan Clark Howe

R: Gawn Swallow Viney

I: Cross M.Jones Toumpas Evans

E: Kent, Clisby, Fitzpatrick, Barry

Yeah, I would think Swallow hasn't lived up to expectations to date. Whether that is injury or other reasons I don't really know but his VFL year was pretty special and that has yet to translate to AFL.

If I recall correctly his brother took a few years to show his true worth.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
