What do you call a spear without a head?

i think small forwards are the easiest players to recruit...

Not good ones. Any type is easy to recruit, but classy regular goal kicking smalls would probably be the hardest.

Millera 19 goals, Saad 28 goals, Milne 56 goals, and they go and recruit Dennis-Lane...

Hawthorn: Breust 45 goals, Rioli 39 goals, Puopolo 24 goals and they've got Brad Hill, who I like, coming through.

At Essendon Davey kicked 29 and Jetta 22.

Carlton: Betts 48 and Garlett 29.

Sydney have an amazing array of midfield goal kickers, but they still had the very handy McGlynn with 30 goals. I won't go through every team...

I reckon it is great that we've got Burns and I expect Kent to fill a void. Most clubs have a decent array of reliable mid size goal kickers and it's an area of concern for Melbourne. It's great having Clark and Dawes create opportunities, as well as kicking goals, but right now we don't have the class to capitalise on all of those opportunities. I'm surprised supporters are so happy with our current small forwards and flankers.

BH I agree with a lot of what you say here although we have yet to see Clark & Dawes play together, it's something I'm looking forward to. I think (hope) they will create some panic in opposition defences and also bring the ball to ground more than we have previously to help us lock it in more and not allow opposition defences clear it so easily. When I say bring ball to ground I am talking with purpose and to advantage. I believe Byrnes will be a good small forward with Rodan rotating through stints and the ball and would like to see Blease doing similar.

In a nutshell basically I am of the view whilst we don't have Milne who is a gun, I think Clark & Dawes could make reasonable small forwards look good. I would also like to see us eventually having Toumpas, Kent, Trenners, Tappy, Blease, Byrnes, Rodan and whoever comes through to replace them rotate from midfield to forward in similar style to the Swans.

Lets hope we don't have to wait to long for the evolution

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
