Cheque Book Drafting MFC

If players are only coming to the club for a brown bag full if money what aort of effort can we really expect from them??

Probably the same efforts you got out of Judd. Taking a team from 16th to play finals football, captained their club, changed the culture of how they think and train. Had it not been for injuries they were flaf favourites at one stage.

Geez bloody good return for a few paper bags stuffed with Visy cash.

Go offer Goddard 4 years 3mil, with 1.5mil next year, 800,000 the next, then 350,000 for the next 2.

Not as good of a return when you factor Josh Kennedy (and to a lesser extent Chris Masten) into it.

There are still a lot of sore Carlton supporters about the trade and looking at their list it's not hard to see why.

I'm all for that Goddard has the class and experience we need with leadership skills

There is not a Carlton supporter in the land that would have said that last year when they were playing finals football. Supporters are fickle, change like the bloody weather.

Elite midfielders they have plenty of.

KPF they don't and haven't since Fevola.

Essentially they chose Kreuzer over Kennedy and have had the likes of Jacobs, Warnock and Hampson to choose from in the ruck department. No KPF.

No problems I just think if you are 23 years old + (except ruckmen) and you are on the trade table you fit into two major categories a/ NQR & b/ Chasing a club in a premiership window. You normally have played 50+ games & have pretty exposed AFL form.

I would prefer us finding players on the way up with there best still in front of them. Just dont think we need the "NQR" and we are not in a premiership window in the near future.

Suppose in used car terms I reckon we look for a near new car with very low km's on the clock yet they are broken in. Yes I would pay overs to get that.

But I accept there are always exceptions to any "rules".

Hi 'Rassilon', I agree with your hopes, but young 21Yr + players aren't around, unless they're delisted for some Issues. they're RARE.

So we can get some stepping stone players in mid 20's which aren't getting games at the top clubs because great players are keeping them out...

or..

we chase some greats at the end of they're careers through F/A, as they aren't getting the dollars from they're Clubs, to bring some much needed hard headed culture & inspiration, to show what is needed at the highest levels.

These older players can also help us onfield for 1 or 2 Yrs as the kids we've drafted & the ones we're about to draft this Year develop.

These older greats will come for free, other than a list spot + some dollars, which we Need to spend anyway, as our kids don't yet deserve the Big Dollars until they start reaching the heights.

#Murphy @ Carton has learnt from Judd over the years. But there aren't any Judds getting about right now for Us.

As far as youngsters are concerned & exposed form, only Caddy comes to mind. most are unavailable or not worth it, & I wouldn't want to risk an early pick on a kid who's been chucked out.

I'd rather, in a strong draft, use our Early picks on this Years draftees. we may be able to find Gold?

Free agents when you are down the bottom are not so good - anyway you get nothing for "free" in this world

There are actually quite a few young kids around. If you do the research you might be surprised what you would find.

Our record is not good.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
