How do you solve a problem like Moloney?

Featured Replies

Actually, the reality is these younger blokes need older blokes around, so if you want to get rid of Moloney, Green, Davey etc, what will happen when guys like Viney, Grimes, Trengove, Gysberts etc struggle with their inexperience in games and training, injuries, form... It's been shown how important a mix of age is, and it's been a big focus of Neeld's to get more of that mix, so you may want to tell him how it would be better to get rid of everyone over 26 because in "reality" that's how it is.

Stuie, I understand your point but I think the older blokes now are going to be the likes of Frawley, Jones, Clark and Garland with Rivers being the old man of the group. Where Moloney, Davey, Silvia and Green sit will depend on form and the desire to go on.

We're agreed on this rjay. Although I reckon that should be sitting between MFC and Casey, not MFC or cut. Just think we need at least a few of those guys for another year for insurance, experience, and a chop out for the younger guys so we're not riding them into the ground.

We will have Jamar and Rivers and I think we may hold another couple of the older group for the reasons you outlined. I wouldn't be surprised if Green called it a day at the end of the season though, he is chasing injuries now and seems to be a step off the pace. The end of season with the draft, trade and all is going to be a very interesting and important time for the club. I know I'm not telling you anything new there.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.
