Reach Foundation - World Record Camel Costume Half Marathon Attempt

Hello,

Long time reader, irregular poster here. I'm not sure if this is the appropriate Board to post this on, please advise if it isn't.

On the 15th of April, I along with a mate of mine Steve will be attempting to break the current Guinness World Record for the fastest half marathon in a two man camel costume. This crazy idea will be part of the Geelong Cross Country Club half marathon.

As part of this, we are raising funds for the Reach Foundation, which I know many of you are very familiar with. For those of you that are not, Reach was established by our inspiring former President Jim Stynes and co. in 1994 and helps young people between the age of 10 and 18 to "Reach" their potential. Each year Reach's programs help 57,000 young Australians around the country. This money will fund programs and camps for youth who have lacked the opportunities we have both being fortunate enough to have.

If you are interested in supporting us, and more importantly the Reach Foundation, please follow the following link to the fundraising webpage we have set up with Everyday Heroes:

http://www.everydayhero.com.au/hero_pages/view_posts/two_men_one_camel

All donations are tax deductable and greatly appreciated!

We have recently gained some media exposure in the Geelong Advertiser: http://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/article/2012/03/13/312821_local_sports.html

And are looking to possibly broadcast our attempt in the Herald Sun and Footy Show, so keep an eye out!

Thank you for the support, and go the Mighty Dees!!

Nathan

What an idea!

How did that come about?

Good luck to you both.. I'll see if I have any spare change floating about :)

GO DEES

We saw the time of 2 hours 9 min 13 sec and thought it was achievable. We then found some courage that can only be found in the bottle of a beer, and informed Guinness we would make an attempt!

We have raised nearly $1,300 so far, every dollar counts, so thanks mate we really appreciate it!

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
