GETTING OVER THE UMPIRES

Featured Replies

It annoys me when people say the umpiring was good. At best I will settle for par. I'll pick a number - 100 - for the sake of my argument - infringements in a game. the majority of which are touch and go and could go either way. They pick roughly 50 to act upon, generally 25 give or take to each team. They leave another 50 untouched, thankfully. In the midst there are usually a few clangers. Often they are so technical and inconsequential that one wonders who is ever teaching them about the gasme. In a few cases it does effect the outcome, sometimes not. To say they were good is rubbish, to be kind and say it's roughly what I expect is as much as I believe one can. Merely par.

To help release one from the blood pressure syndrome that accompanies supporting a team I heard it was possible to buy a transistor radio that included the option of listening into the umpires commentary. I eventually found one (call the AFL for directions if you are interested) They are overpriced at $50, but it gives one relief from listening to the radio commentary of the day. It remains entertaining for about 5 or 10 minutes, particularly when there has been a controversial decision. Good to hear players argue. But it does prove one thing. It's hard enough watching them without having to listen to them.

I'll hunt up a source of purchase if anyone is interested.

Is it possible to get a two-way radio??
