He reminds me of Kenny Dalglish. Pity he can't come back and do what Kenny's done to Liverpool. One of those rare men deserved of the title of Legend.

Why you little.

For those of us old enough to remember (I was 11)it is still as you say haunting. I also still remember NS walking passed the members at the G that weekend vividly. So dont need to look at the vision again!

RR sorry that you dont appreciate the point. Norm's sacking went right to the core of the character and fabric of what made the MFC great. it was relevant in that case because the players loved and respected the coach and played their guts out accordingly.

Only the sides under Swooper have come close to that level since. Only comparable coaching departures would be Bobby Rose and Tom Hafey probably.

You are correct however in stating we need to focus on the current coaching situation as this is now looming as a threat to any improvement in the 2011 season! As DB term is up at the end of the year and is a first time coach NO comparsion with the NS situation although is vital challenge for the JS board to get it right!

Tony i totally agree that the 2011 situation is a different issue, but it is also connected. The sacking of Norm Smith is a millstone that does still hang around the clubs neck i have no doubt. The Board of 1965 obviously had a very limited vision towards the future of the game at that time, a problem that finally (and thankfully) came to the fore 3-4 years ago. Jim Stynes and his Board are doing a fantastic and inspirational job and i want them to keep punching. But the Sacking of Norm Smith did cut the "core fabric" of the club i have no doubt. We became directionless. The Reuniting of the MCC/MFC is a giant step toward fixing this, but i still feel that more can be done. With the looming of Free Agency this club is going to have to stand bloody tall to survive, otherwise our list will become a garage sale.

Tonight's Board Meeting could be a very important chapter in the life of the MFC. We are right at the crossroads.

Sorry if you do not think it is an important aspect of our great club Rhino, but i do.

John Kennedy learnt most of his coaching from talking to Norm Smith, they were good friends. He was sick of being thrashed by Melbourne, thus "kennedy's Commando's were born.

Look at the contempt that Hawthorn have treated us over 5 decades since, as just one example. The club has never recovered from those 2 weeks in 1965 & now is the perfect time to deal with it once and for all, amongst other things.

Forget the haunting of Round 11 — we’ve got this. Melbourne returns to its inner-city fortress for its milestone 100th AFLW match, carrying a formidable 10–2 record at IKON Stadium. Brisbane’s record at the venue is more balanced: 4 wins, 4 losses and a draw.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
