Todd the coach

Have just enjoyed reading Todd Viney's article and interested to note his growing experience incoaching. Is this new role really saignificant and moving him closer to a senior job. Much talk seems to involve Ratten, but what if Malthouse and Roos for various reasons don't show interest in that position. Would Todd be of interest to them. We probably liked the thought of him staying in a support role at Melbourne with young Jack coming our way. But that might be tricky in its ownright. I wonder what his aspirations are?

If we're going to take Todd we may as well stick with Bailey. He's been there longer and has has a better feel for the particular playing group - while Todd could liase better with the rest of the club I think that if we were in a situation of choosing between Todd Viney or Dean Bailey at season's end, we should take Dean.

It would also be terrible from a club PR perspective. Think about what Carro has been writing over the past week about the 'old boys club'. We sack Dean Bailey and have Todd Viney take his place as part of a Stynes-Schwab administration with the invisible hand of Garry Lyon in the club? We would be shredded by The Age.

He seems to be a very clever coach does Todd. And has gained experience and two successful clubs. Hopefully he can have a big impact with our kids.

I don't think he will ever take a senior gig though, with young Jack coming through.

My topic has nothing to do with Viney at Melbourne. I think it would be very difficult for Todd to coach at Melbourne with Jack there. I'm interested in his potential to coach at senior level. Maybe you don't see coaching where his son is as a problem

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
