I have already started the Essendon - OUR game for 2010 thread.

Apologies that I am starting another one on the same game but it has come to my attention that this Sunday, Essendon are celebrating their 2000 premiership win.

I am not sure that this means a great deal to the players as beside Green we don't actually have anyone else left who played in that Grand Final do we? (Playing this week I mean - I am aware we had Junior and Bruce around, Bruce didnt play and Junior is not playing this week).

Of course we can never make up for that loss but we can certainly put a downer on the night for them if we can get up on Sunday. I can say with all honestly that I have a very strong dislike for Essendon more than any other club and would love to get something over them for once.

How much pain have they caused us? Bashing the kids in 2000, that win over us when we were up by 8 goals at 3 qtr time, the Matthew Lloyd dive to get two kicks at goal and cost us the game - poor Nicho! Should I go on?!

It is quite clear there is little respect for us from Essendon and it is well overdue that we inflict some pain on them. Sure the players of 2000 will still have a good night but the players of today will be hurting even more seeing them celebrate while nursing a bad loss to the Dees on the same day!!

Cmon Demons!!!!!

A good win by the Dees yesterday, could've been even greater had we not taken the foot off the pedal!!

In any case there is nothing better than beating Essendon no matter where they are on the ladder. Even sweeter that we could at the very least send the current group of Bummers off to their celebration with some not so nice memories of playing Melbourne!

Maybe that's why so many Bummers fan were walking out in droves 5 minutes into the last quarter!

Go Demons!

Would you have preferred to win the 2000 flag, but lose to us yesterday, or the way it turned out. :)

You are right though, it probably put a bit of a dampner on the night, especially with the way we played.

I think anyone would know the correct answer to that Ash!!

That's why I made sure that I referenced the current day players having not as much fun last night. Sure the group from 2000 still had a decent night.....50 metre penalties might have been bought up in conversation more than the flag though!! ;)

I hope not.

Blaming the umpires would be deflecting from the real problems at Windy Hill at the moment.

I really thought we might have shown up with a bit more desire than we showed yesterday but Melbourne lead the way in that regard.

Sounds about right Ash...was overdue to be seen with us and no doubt what you will now be looking for.

Good luck for the remainder of the year.

2000 was a great (and tragic) year for the MFC which delivered this pearl

and my personal footy highlight as the goal Yze kicked to put us in front hit me on the chest as the Demons fan went berserk... Brad Green and Cam Bruce feature.

Great game. Love the club

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025.
