Melbourne Wanting

Verdict: Put games into Watts, Jurrah, Petterd, Bate, Morton,, Aussie combo...add in a consistent Sylvia as well as Green for bit longer.

Why on earth would we need to go searching anywhere else at this stage?

There are many positives and negatives for all of the players mentioned above, the exception I believe would be Stanley from the Saints, yes been there since 2008 and in that time with Big Nick would find it hard to get a game, especially as has been proven the last few week the entire 'Saints Footy' (which equals SH!T Footy in my mind!) game plan revolves around Nick, I find it hard to believe that he hasn't got a game in Nick's absence.

He looked super in pre-season, hasn't been given much of a chance as others mentioned above here, knows that he may struggle for the game time he wants while Nick is around... he seems a candidate that could possibly look to move or be traded if the saints want to trade for a final push at a cup?

Stanley would be hungry and Rick P wants to go home (which is debatable) then maybe we could look at that trade and somehow get Stanley out of a three way deal.

Again, having said all that I would be most pleased to leave the forwards we have and give them some time together.....the backline has proven what time together and stability can achieve (and getting rid of the peanut Carroll).

I see Bate as a leadup Forward Flank/Mid - HBF...

I see Watts being a mobile CHF/FF, not unlike Riewoldt. Not a musclebound monster.

I see Jurrah as a freakish roaming FP/HFF

I see Wonna as a Small forward/Mid who'll roam up to the middle, like he did that win last year against the Lions.

I see Petterd as a hard working small medium Utility who'll play allover the ground.

I see Morton as a CHB sometime leadup CHF.

I Invisage a 2014 team something like this, >

FB:Cheney, Frawley, McNamara

HB:Strauss, Morton, Grimes

CL:Trengove, McKenzie, Blease

HF:Bate, Watts, Tapscott

FF: Wonna, ??????, Jurrah,

Rck: Spencer, Gysberts, Scully

Int: Garland, Davey, Viney, Bennell, Jetta, Bail, Petterd, Gawn, Martin +++++++++++++++++++

Where's Warnock and Jamar? Russian's only 27, and Warnock's...25?

Petterd can play full-forward, he's shown that this year.

I see Morton as a CHB sometime leadup CHF.

It's strange, I read this a lot but I just don't see it. He will never bulk up enough and personally I wouldn't him too. His skills are far more damaging in other areas than KP.

Purely imho of course....

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
