The crowd

Triple R have a show on where architects talk all things architect-y. One of them went to the World Cup in Germany and he reported that the amazing Allianz Stadium in Munich was "everything that the Docklands stadium isn't" in terms of atmosphere.

It's easy to get 'atmosphere' when you can put 70,000 spectators around a turf area that's only 8000m2 (Docklands is 19,500m2 or 250% larger) in the biggest sporting event on the planet.

Perception is reality people and we have to stop the perception we draw small crowds. We may not be able to get 90k (altho we did for the 2000 GF) but we regularly get 60k for QB - a home game against a big drawing team. The draw is stuffed but we cannot let media stereotypes about crowd numbers to flourish.

The reality is we do draw small crowds. The perception of some posters and the flawed evidence they raise to try and support it is the issue.

GFs draw crowds regardless and especially when its two Melbourne based clubs where one of them is Essendon.

The QBW crowd is only big because of the bulk of the crowd is Collingwood. Even more so in the past couple of years.

Spot on the money.
