So in about a week and a half time we have yet another games event on our hands as the Commonwealth Games rolls around again. This time the white sandy beaches of Gold Coast will be replaced with the Industrial jungle of Birmingham. With the Games back in the UK the medal table race between England and Australia will be interesting. Back in 2014 in Glasgow they knocked us off the top of table, but we got that back with some in Gold Coast. Some interesting sports of note to keep an eye on for this games will be the return of Cricket for the first time since 1998, but only for the women in T20. We'll also have Basketball but in the 3 on 3 format. Feel free to post all comments related to the games here. Time difference won't be ideal, but I'll be burning the midnight oil throughout. List of all the sports is in the link below. https://www.birmingham2022.com/sports

So that time of the 4 year cycle where the Comm Games have come round, and this time we're back in Australia after only 12 years. I always enjoy watching them, but curious as to others interest? While I thoughg the opening ceremony was pretty ordinary last night, at least we're now into the competition! Big interest will be around if we can top the medal tally over England? We should do well in the swimming, team events and para events I'd of thought. But as for some very early updates, looks like Bermuda will take the first gold in the women's triathlon, wales are on the verge of an upset in the womens hockey (2-1 up over the much higher ranked India) and Sally Pearson is likely about to pull out.

Very early I know as it isn't until early August, but this tweet (on the club website) caught my eye of a potential multiple Gold Medal winner at the upcoming Olympic Games! Mack Horton @_mackhorton 12h12 hours ago Looking forward to getting down to the G on Sunday for my first game of the year and supporting the mighty @melbournefc #carnthedees 7 retweets39 likes Reply Retweet 7 Like 39 More Good to see the young man has good taste! Speaking of, they've announced the Australian Swim team and this Dees fan I believe will be competing in the 1500m, 400m and potentially the 4x200m relay team. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/rio-olympics/rio-olympics-2016-australian-swim-team-announced/news-story/1604449d14a24d54b708b2c88f63eb87 Lets hope the whole Australian Olympic team has a better games then we had in London. Don't know if I could sit through another living version of the Bermagui Bronze!

Less than a week away now and here's a chance for us Demon fans to get a bit of joy into our lives ! What are people looking forward to ? I'm hoping for lots of medals (any colour) and the main sports I'm interested in are Track and Field , Swimming , Track Cycling and the Rowing . The Aussies have traditionally done well in the latter 3 sports and hopefully we can snag a few medals in Track and Field . A lot of the 'Medal' events will commence around 4am so set your alarms ! Bring it on !
