  1. I think that is exactly the attitude the MFC took back in 2009 when they failed to even interview Dusty who was a widely regarded top 5 pick. At the time I thought he would be a good option as we had picks 1 and 2. Take Scully at one as the outstanding endurance athlete of the draft and although Trengove looked good I wanted Dusty for that mongrel element the list needed. Scully and Trengrove were always the vanilla, nice boys option for my thinking. But yes Dusty would have struggled to fit in at MFC but he also had problems at the Tigers and shopped himself around only 2 or 3 years ago with no takers believe it or not! What a transformation. Maybe an omen for Jack Watts if we can't do a trade and he ends up back at home? However I suspect we will take any offer and there will be suiters because he has a much less threatening demeanour.
  2. No he has some off field issues, the FD would not wear it. It's all about the culture!
  3. We have laid our cards on the table with Watts, we are not in a great position to negotiate for value trades, that is my argument against Goodwin's strategy. It is not about whether we move Watts on or not, it is how we have telegraphed our opinion on his value, that is zilch, he is gone.
  4. I say yes for Rohan as we have laid our cards on the table ahead of time with Watts so I originally expected Jackshyte compo. Why pay anything much for a player who has been cast loose by their club? But with the Swans interested we can deal on salary cap issues. We may have to take on Rohan's salary and most of Watts remaining 2 year contract as well. We only get this because the Swans have salary cap problems. This is lose lose but modern AFL reality.
  5. Do you know it is the rest of the list that wants to move him on then? Dom Tyson doesn't from what we heard on SEN. We know management wants to move him on, Goodwin for sure and N Jones mouthing the same. Not sure what your point is. I think you have mis interpreted my thoughts. I was making the point in modern footy and modern corporations there are more managers than you can poke a stick at yet more than ever we do not tolerate difference from the agreed norm. Talented people who are different are not performance managed, they are more likely to be sent packing, instead of managed to realise their full potential. Interesting that 2 years ago Dusty Martin was shopping himself around the AFL because Richmond and he had fallen out. There were few takers at the time so Richmond had to find a way to manage him! Gee look at the outcome.
  6. It is not about what they know about Jack as a footballer, it is more about what they believe how much MFC values Jack. That determines to some degree how much they have to bid to get him if they want him. Now knowing that we don't value him means they won't be putting in a high bid. That is my point why telegraph our position and not alternatively be working behind the scenes looking for a suitable trade deal as we nearly pulled off with Jack Trengove with Richmond a few years ago only the medical exam stopping us getting a first round pick as compo.
  7. We have telegraphed this move to the whole competition I wouldn't be expecting too much compo. Why would any club offer much unless there is some bidding war when Goodwin has said plainly, in AFL speak at least that he is not a required player. We will be lucky to get a third round pick or fringe player in return and we will be paying part of his salary for 2 years. Win Win I don't think. The only sense I can make of this situation is that Goodwin has decided he needs to make a very plain statement to the rest of the list that anything less than 100% commitment will not be tolerated. I love the modern workplace whether it is AFL or medium to large corporate workplaces. We have never had so many managers, so many management resources, but we have never so quick to restructure out of the place, people who don't adhere completely to the code of conduct, the corporate blueprint or whatever. Technically talented people who question the status quo, call a spade a spade are often sacrificed to maintain the corporate culture. I don't always buy it, people can be mentored and performance managed to make it clear that if you meet our agreed targets your in, if you don't, we may need to move you on. But also the corporation needs to be able to handle some diversity itself if it wants to prosper. Of course with so much management these days, the tolerance for diverse opinion or behavaviour has never been lower. Has MFC been through this with Jack this season and Made plain to him the consequences of failure I don't know.
  8. Interesting to read an article yesterday on how the elite sports coach for Storm decided he could improve Billy Slater's running speed even though he is in his 30's. He rated Slater as having good acceleration but average leg speed so worked with Billy during his 2 years of injury and has measured a 10% increase in leg speed in a 34 year old! And of course it has been on display this season. I wonder did we put in the same effort with JT to improve his leg speed over the last 2 or 3 seasons? If Jack had 10% more leg speed would he be AFL standard? Of course Jack's problem may be more about acceleration than absolute speed but you can probably do things to increase your explosiveness as well. I never got the impression we were doing anything special for Jack in this area. I noted some repeat sprint work at training early this season but then someone commented on how he seemed to have trimmed down in the lower body this year. The exact opposite you would expect if you want to build speed vs endurance. Anyway it is all too late now.
  9. Go where?
  10. Clary struggling for votes as are all MFC players even in games we won. Hibberd struggling to register.
  11. I thought Jayden Hunt myself. A 70 plus metre barrel after the 3 quarter siren, degree of difficulty, very high. How often do you see it? Not often maybe once per year. How many dribble goals do we see every week? They look good and are good but they happen every game and how many miss, but we only get to see the ones that do go through.
  12. He is Mitchell's partner for the night.
  13. Angry are you quoting Old Testament or New Testament? Old Testament tends to hate everybody and was written three or four thousands of years ago by understandably very bigoted, insular and insecure people. The New Testament is supposedly composed of Christ's teachings that form the basis of the Christian beliefs you adhere to supposedly. My memory is that these teachings were much more liberal and understanding about people than the tripe you are espousing! Are there any references to gays in the New Testament and where does Mary Magdeline, a consort of Jesus fit in to all this?
  14. I am thinking a tarring and feathering exercise would be appropriate at this point in time. I had previously requested public humiliation putting them in the stocks but that is too lenient in this modern era of mandatory sentencing.
  15. Hardtrack I agree with your sentiments but I would point out that the models aren't WRONG rather they are predictive and have a statistical margin of error, as all scientific models will have. Future data yet to be measured could make the models move back toward their former predictions, who knows, but the forces involved and the trends affecting the climate are clear, we are just debating the time to failure. Models are models, not historical data. You can only be 100% accurate when analysing historic data, that is looking backwards. I hope the scientific paper is true as it buys us some time but the language used by the researchers is very measured so as not to promote complacency or provide any comfit for Deniers, as the dire predictions of global warming have not changed if we exceed 1.5 C.
  16. Biff I am bald, it is not a problem, at least not one that needs direct medical attention. Instead I drive a Corvette to make up for it.
  17. I would usually cut you some slack Wrecker and your gross stupidity on climate change issues, but unfortunately this issue is too important. Your beliefs are stupid, illogical and dangerous. First You deny there is a problem, deny the science, the basic physics of CO2 in the atmosphere then You question the predictive models as getting it wrong, then as the data pours in that is validating the modelpredictions, You call into question the data, it is now being doctored by the national Bureau of Met. For what possible reason only your contorted, conspiratorial mind can explain. Meanwhile if you ever stick your head out the window and observe the weather you might notice we are about to break another raft of temperature records this weekend up north in NSW but of course that is just the norm when measured over the past million years. This is Climate Change in action as we communicate!
  18. Am I right in thinking that Hunt's goal hasn't made goal of the year contenders? I didn't see him in Marngerook's footy show run through of goals and marks of the year. If so not happy, how many dribble goals can you award, as great as they are, but they are common these days.
  19. Yes we need commitment but we also need talent. Players who are 6'5" are quick, have endurance and elite disposal don't come along too often. I don't see we would get a suitable trade to match what we would lose.
  20. I am still waiting for my ballot papers! Maybe they are just assuming everyone in Fitzroy will be voting yes?
  21. Hottest Australian winter on record! Climate change is now happening, don't worry about the models, we are experiencing it now. Only the deluded are still questioning the data in the predictive models to try to deny it. Forget the models, look out your window at what is happening on the ground.
  22. So where does the Diet of Worms come into this discussion? I still think Martin Luther was railroaded in the final edict, myself. Discuss.
  23. As long as you miraculously know just who to bring in and more importantly can bring in that will offer more! Yes Jack has issues but can we possibly work on that as he has unique attributes and skills you won't pick up in the second round of any draft. A 6.5 talk player, high endurance athelete with silky kicking skills, yes they come along in every draft. If we lift our game and become genuine top 4 contenders next year, Jack can be the X factor and swing man that all finalists need.
  24. All his so called foibles mentioned here were usual for the times for dominant players in the 80's. I remember him as one of the first midfielders to be racking up 30 plus disposals per week in an era where you had to get them yourself before the rapid handballs back and forth and chip kicking sideways and endless ball ups in congestion that allows your Tom Mitchell's of this year and G Ablett Juniors of recent times to accumulate 40 plus touches every match. Great player, yes selfish but then think of the incompetents around him except for Robbie.
  25. I loved him as a player, seemed to have time and space and clean hands and looking at that clip he plays better than Hunt! But that is just one play so you can't make a real comparison. Hopefully Hunt keeps on improving, he potentially has more weapons.
